I was ready to give up on my Saab 9 – 3 until I found Scania Auto Service. In a brief time, Joby correctly diagnosed and repaired a chronic stalling problem that had eluded a Berkeley mechanic four times in the past year. If you have a tough-​to-​solve problem, Joby is your man.

Going the extra distance to get to Joby has been worth it. He is kind, thorough, and very good. I always felt good about his communication with me and never had any twinge of feeling like I was being treated different as a woman (sad that this is something that still happens).
Anyhow, he always went the extra mile with me. So when my SAAB died in the fall of 201, I got another Scandinavian car just to keep him as my mechanic. Well and because they are great cars :)
BTW, my car died because I blew out my turbo on a camping trip that I should have used a rental car for (which was Joby’s advice before the trip).

Great service and extremely knowledgeable about my Saab. Another dealer basically just swapped a part out and did only half the job, and the half they did was sloppy. Took my car there and he repaired what they messed up and completed the work. He also noticed other things that were wrong and needed attention. Fair prices and top notch work. Great place to take a Saab.

Just took our 2004 93 ARC Saab to Joby and as most women and men who have written reviews here, I agree 100%! Why I didn’t come sooner or use Unilocal to help me make my decision I don’t know. But today took my baby in and she will be well cared for and know she will run flawlessly again Thank you Joby!!! On a great note Joby said 206,000 miles on a Saab is nothing so am shooting for 500,000

I’ve been bringing my Saab to Joby for almost 10 years and he’s the best. He is honest and THOROUGH when he works on your car — I think that’s rare. I trust him and his work. If you have a Saab, Joby’s your man!

Just like the other reviews state, Joby knows Saabs. He is very thorough, and performs the work he promises. Keeps my 9 – 3 running.

I agree with everything positive that others have written about Joby as a Saab mechanic who has serviced our two Saabs for years. However, we will not be returning our two Saabs to Scania because we resent being screamed at for having the audacity to park behind a car he was servicing (with the hood up) while I was trying to pay him for work he had already done. If this had been the first time, no problem. Although we had been warned prior to patronizing Scania that Joby is prickly, there’s only so much of that juvenile behavior that my wife and I are willing to tolerate. Good luck to you all.

Jobe is a great mechanic. He will do EXCELLENT work on your car. He knows an immense amount about Saabs. Can get parts no one else can and often at very fair pricing. He does great work on Volvos also. He prices are good, doesn’t bs and will get it done quick. I recommend Scania.

Read the reviews and had to experience Joby for myself. He’s the real deal. Bought a Saab used and had taken it to the local dealership for the first services. They were fine… but having owned a Saab before… and knowing that they can be fickle if not maintained correctly… needed a mechanic I felt I could trust. Tried him for a minor service… and have come away impressed by his knowledge and care for the brand… taking special notice of things that are not a big deal now… but could be as the miles get higher. I’ll be back with regularity.

I’m a woman so we all know that’s a negative when trying to get your car fixed. Joby made me feel comfortable and always takes time out to explain what’s going on with my car and answer any questions I have. I believe he cares about my car just as much as I do. I wholeheartedly trust JOBY because he knows what he is doing and is DIRECT and HONEST about what I need and don’t need. I LOVE my SAAB as if it were my baby. I am so thankful my friend referred me here because I know I am getting the best care for my baby.
I would trust Joby to work on my car blind folded because he’s that good and knows SAABs like the back of his hand. He’s just nothing but awesome. If you have a Saab or even a Volvo… go to Joby. You won’t regret it.

Driving cross country, and a friend recommended seeing Joby @ Scania. Car just felt funny to me, after 4000 miles on this trip. Joby took it for a spin, checked for codes, and said it seemed okay. And wouldn’t let me give him a nickel. I’ll be sure to save up a big service for when/​if I come by this area again. I want him to do it.

I have brought my SAAB several times now to Joby and he has always been very efficient, friendly, and helpful. When I was in a bind and my fuel pump went out while I was at work, he was able to get me in and fix it the very same day! I will most definitely continue to bring my SAAB here!

Wow, this one man shop is aweful! The prices are high, he takes forever and the work is not done right! Not only the that, the attitude of the owner is downright rude and seems angry all the time. I have had much better luck at Dorito bros

Am I the only guy that consistently has to have a shouting match with Joby EVERY time I have a problem? I think he’s honest and a good mechanic, but he doesn’t know the first thing about customer service; and he couldn’t care less. I can see him reading this post and laughing. That’s how arrogant the guy is. Who YELLS at their customer’s??? If you have a Saab and enjoy verbal abuse and litterally being scared to call him… Joby is the man! He IS the «Mechanic Nazi» from Seinfeld.

I recently discovered Scania Auto Service on Unilocal after the water pump on my 2001 Saab 9 – 5 decided to go out. At the time it broke I was stuck on HWY 4 and had no clue what had gone wrong. I left the car on the hwy and got a ride home to find out where I could take it.
Joby is the man — I spoke with him at 10am and explained that my car broke and needed to get it to him. The towing company got the car to him just before noon. Joby called me just after 1 o’clock and gave me the full run down on what happened and what needed to be fixed. Water pump, idler pulley and broken motor mount. He turned it around the same day!!! What shop can you say has this type of expertise and level of service?
When I picked up the car and Joby took the time to talk through the details of the repair and review a few other recommendations on my ride. I am thrilled to have found Joby (thanks to Unilocal!) and will absolutely be back to Joby for future service and repairs on my Saab.

I will never bring my 2 Saabs back to Joby. He knows Saabs and is a good mechanic. Unfortunately, he is a complete jerk and lacks all manners. Joby is a condescending and rude person. He has horrible people skills and as a business owner this should be troubling. He treats customers very poorly and should not be allowed to have any interaction with the customers. Just call him on the phone and gauge for yourself before you bring your car to him. I would rather pay the dealer and the higher rates just to avoid bringing my car to Joby out of spite. Let this be fair warning to anyone who considers bringing their beloved Saab to Joby. Hope this helps any and all

We take our Volvo to Joby and he has taken great care of us. Very honest and knows his cars inside and out. I was going to the local dealer for service until I was getting told I needed brakes after just having them done at Scania. I went back to Joby and my brakes were fine. From that point on I stopped going to dealer for service and only use Scania.

We have been going to Joby for over a decade. He has always kept our Saabs running perfectly, all 5 of them. Over the years we have moved a few times and for the sake of conveniency we have tried more local mechanics for simple oil changes, etc. and boy were we sorry — we always ended up going back to Joby to fix what others screwed up or what others couldn’t figure out. Joby is honest, intelligent and undoubtedly the most competent, knowledgeable and experienced Saab mechanic around!

I called to ask Joby the owner a few questions about a car I was thinking of buying and he was very impatient and only concerned about «wasting» his time on the phone. Hopefully he treats cars better than he treats his customers.

If you own a Saab, Joby is your guy. no doubt about it. He’s been servicing my 900s for 7 years. He’s no frills and he will keep your car running flawlessly at great prices. He’s fast. He typically turns around major repairs and maintenance in a day. He only works on Saabs so he knows everything, understands which parts are the best value, and when things need to be updated.
