Good take out! Delivered to our hotel while on vacation! Good orange chicken and chow mein! Perfect noodle texture!

Lunch specials were very tasty. Smaller potions at $ 8.95 but it is WC! Service was friendly and efficient. Arrived at 1:10 and it was slow(4 tables occupied).

Good prices for the area complimented by good Chinese food. Service was excellent, very friendly and quick. They had a performer singing and playing guitar on the patio and he had a absolutely fantastic voice. A hidden gem.

Peony Garden is absolutely now our go-to Chinese restaurant in the Walnut Creek area and we have tried many of them. We particularly like the Wor Wonton Soup, the walnut shrimp and those delicious mini-bite spareribs. We sometimes sit in the outside patio and other times inside depending on the weather, time of day, and number of people in our party, and wherever, the service has been attentive and solicitous. And Peony is often the restaurant we first visit with out-of-town guests.

One thing that sets this place apart from all the other Chinese restaurants is they do not use anything from a can. They only use fresh ingredients, and you can definitely tell in the food they serve. Their hot n sour soup is the best around.

My wife was recovering at Kaiser Permanente and she wanted to eat some chinese food. This restaurant is in close proximity to Kaiser and we decided to order take out. Ordered Hongkong Style Pan Fried Noodle and found worms in it. This is really disgusting! Anybody who works at Kaiser or around this area please avoid food from this restaurant. They have a serious food safety issue and I want to warn everybody. I have uploaded a couple of pictures to see for yourself. WORMSEWWWWRUNAWAY!

I used to be a very regular customer at Peony, ordering at least 1 or two days a week but unfortunately, I have had to slowly taper off my visits here. The quality just is not what it was. The staff is so friendly and is actually the only reason I come here. The downside is that I have stopped liking the food over the past few months and find myself throwing more than half away every time I come. I am a vegetarian and I always order steamed vegetables and tofu. at least 50% of the time, I find bits of chicken or beef in my food and it’s actually pretty annoying. I mean, are the pots just dirty when you are making my food? This isn’t a one time thing, it’s all the time. The vegetables have a chicken or fish taste sometimes too which again leads me to believe that they aren’t even rinsing out the wok before they make my food. While the staff here is really great, I just can’t order from here anymore. It’s too expensive and the quality has become too low.

Thought I would try this Chinese restaurant because it was a little shorter drive. My mistake. Food is not cheap. I am so happy that they put a plastic bag over the paper bag that the food was loaded in. The paper bag is sopping wet. And I kept it upright the whole time. The shrimp appetizer is skimpy. The short ribs appetizer. .. well, each short rib is about as big as a knuckle on my little finger. Very little meat. The salt and pepper wings. .. no drumstick sections. Looks like a fair amount of chow mein, but I have to leave it in the bag until I can get a plate to put under it so it doesn’t drip all over the floor. I guess we’ll go back to our old Chinese restaurant, even if it is farther away.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. They tried to tell me that the Vietnamese spring rolls were supposed to have rancid vegetable bc they were fresh and that the steamed dumplings were supposed to be soggy. Worst food I have ever eaten

Large portions. good food. Their delivery service was a bit clunky, not certain if that’s on the restaurant or Unilocal’s end, Eat24(which cannot be rated itself) but the food arrived. I’d order from them again if I needed food delivered in the area.

Very quick delivery. My food arrived in 20 – 25 minutes, which is reasonable, because I only live 0.5 miles away, yet I was charged a delivery fee. According to their website, with a $ 25 minimum(which I met) & delivery to WC, no delivery fee. Hmmm. Food was okay, but nothing great. Portions were small for the price paid & the seasoning was weak in my opinion.

The best, freshest tasting Chinese food in Walnut Creek. I highly recommend Peony Garden. I had been looking for great Chinese in Walnut Creek. The kind of Chinese I could walk to when I worked in the Financial District for years. I had given up hope of finding that level of quality in Walnut Creek. When Peony opened, I was excited to try it. I have eaten in the restaurant once and twice had food delivered to my home. Eat in was a great experience. It was my first time and I was amazed at the food. Fresh. Veggies that were still crunchy and meats that were moist and dressed in succulent sauces. The service is an A+ too. Our waiter was so attentive and the server would not let my drink even reach the half glass level. The delivery is great too. Super quick and delivered in the insulated bags so everything stays warm. They automatically include hot mustard, which is so nice because I love it and always forget to ask for in on delivery. So, my list of favorites are hot and sour soup, BBQ pork chow mein, General Tao’s chicken, beef chow fun(with black bean sauce) and the egg roll. I’ll close by saying the portions are good sized. We always have leftovers. Great place, great food, great service!

I am very disappointed and frustrated with Peony Gargen Chinese restaurant. First time I went to this restaurant in Walnut Creek it was like 6 months ago with my daughter and we loved it, the food was delicious and the service very good. A month later we’ve decided to place an order to check how it would be and it was good, great food, fast service. Yesterday my son and his family decided last minute to come over for lunch and I said to myself: No problem! I am going to order it from Peony’s. This was the worse decision on food that I ever made, started with the guy who got the order, he was kind of rude and rushing. Than when the food arrived it was hot and smelling good inside the bag, but when we started to open the boxes the frustration started. First of all, the food looked like old leftovers, overcooked, bad appearance, very oily, everything tasted about the same, plus 75% of the food was of rice. But the worse part of it was that I couldn’t say anything to my son and his family because they were hungry and I had give Peony’s a lot of good compliments right before the food arrived. We barely ate, half of it I threw it out after they left. I don’t know what happens but it seems like they either serve you the good, normal, fresh made food the first two times to gain you as a customer and than they start to take advantage and serve you the leftovers and bad quality food. Or maybe they changed the management and it will be like this from now on. In fact, it doesn’t matter anymore cause this was my last time, they just lost a potential good customer. There are other great Chinese restaurants and with $ 50.00 worth it I am sure that I can be way more satisfied and happy! I am done with this restaurant!

My bf and I usually order from this place a couple times a week. If we decide not to eat in, we order take out. Either way the food is always good, and both lunch and dinner portions are generous amounts for the price. This place is definitely one of the better Chinese restaurants in town. The food is more authentic: light sauces, not thick and gooey(like when the chef doesn’t add enough water to the starch, or mix it well), and everything is always FRESH! My mom is Taiwanese, and the hot n sour soup is fairly close to our family’s recipe. The menu is actually quit extensive, which I’m sure anyone who works in WC can appreciate – lunch can be dreadful when you’re tire of eating the same’ol. In addition to the main menu, there is a small dim sum selection, and a «Chinese» menu, available upon request, with dishes like: eel, whole fish, duck, clay pots, rice sticks/cakes, even bitter melon(come’on, how many Chinese places offer bitter melon?). They offer wine, and I believe sake, but no spirits, due to the location. There is also a patio for outside seating. Overall we enjoy coming here, and I always recommend Peony’s to my friends if they’re looking to eat real Chinese food in WC.

Peony Garden is a great place to have lunch. The food is pretty good, not earth shaking, but good. The prices are very reasonable and the service was friendly and prompt. I ordered the salt and pepper prawns and had some tea. When my dish arrived, it didn’t look like enough food. However, I think my eyes were bigger than my stomach(which always seems to be the case) because once I ate, I was content. The restaurant is very spacious and the bathroom is pretty tidy. They also serve wine, which is a big plus in my book.

Lunch specials are the most tasty complete meals. I really like the cumin lamb dish. The meat was tasty and doesn’t taste as gamy and others expect. The lunch specials(from 11 – 3 daily) are complete with hot and sour soup, an egg roll, and the usual fortune cookie

Thats it, thats probably the last time I eat here by choice! I loved the place that used to be here ‘the door’ since then Ive been accepting peony garden as an acceptable substitute. No the Honey walnut prawns are full of mayonnaise. Nothing really stands out and its over priced. We ordered it delivery the last time and it was really really horrible

I’ve had two really great experiences ordering food to go from here. I especially enjoyed their jalapeño basil shrimp dish. They also make a delicious green bean dish. The beans were still crunchy and sautéed in garlic. It was just super good. I will keep going back. I don’t have experience dining in but take out is A+

Terrible experience — bad service — what a nightmare! It was our xmas dinner, had a reservation — when we arrived the place was a zoo. Nobody greeted us. The couple ahead of us basically gave up and walked out. This place is across from Kaiser hospital and a dr in scubs came in, said he ordered food online 1 hr ago. The owner told him we didn’t have time to call you but we stopped taking online orders and could not fulfill his dinner. When he complained in front of us and I would too she said she didn’t have time to talk. This all happened while we were in line! When we were finally greeted they told us we stopped taking reservations and could not seat us. Why even take reservations when you can’t fulfill them. Sure enough the line fizzed out as everybody left with hungry bellies, and they probably went to a better friendlier Chinese restaurant in town. I pulled out my Unilocal and we were finally seated and told we would have to wait at least an hour for our dinner! My old parents didn’t have it in them to leave, but if I wasn’t with them I know we would have walked out. Ridiculous. When we got the food it was just mediocre– bland tasting — we definitely had better tasting Chinese food and way better service. Overall what nightmare Christmas dinner. Thanks, but we shall not be returning ever again!

What a lovely surprise! I was sick one day, and had no energy to go out and buy myself some food. I jumped on Unilocal and searched places that deliver to where I live…(Not everyone delivers to me, bummer)… Anyways, this place was so delicious and so well priced! I got the lunch size Kung Pao chicken, it came with rice.(Side Note: They ask how spicy you want it). Then I ordered the wonton soup and hot and sour soup for later. Both were amazing and really helped with my cold. My mama ordered the honey walnut shrimp which like my chicken came with rice. The food is great, fresh and just delicious. I will 100% order from this place again!

I just moved to the area and I came in with my boyfriend for the first time and had the most amazing Chinese food that I’ve had in a long time! I work in restaurants and I was so impressed with how good everything was down to the tiniest details! Not only is the building beautiful, modern, clean and we’ll decorated, but the service and food was impeccable ! I am looking forward to many more wonderful meals here in the future! Perfect ambiance, timing, lighting, music, service, cleanliness, food, taste, everything!

Not great. Just OK quality dim sum; clearly not their forte. They have just these few items of Dim Sum on their menu: 1. Siu Mai(very good actually but 3 large ones for $ 5.50?) 2. Har Gao(3 of them. Not hot enough and filled with something that was not very shrimp-like, tasted ok but not generous with the shrimp) 3. Shanghai Dumplings(did not order) 4. Steamed Char Siu Bao(didn’t order either) 5. Sticky Rice wrapped in Lotus Leaf(Ordered two because who we assumed was the manager implied that one was too small for a party three people. While impressed with one of them, the other had like freezer burn, the rice was tough at the corner and some of the meat inside tasted old) We also ordered their signature Peony Garden Deluxe chow fun, which was served with a very slight gravy and was totally missing any wok-seared flavor. It was fair, not oily, but definitely felt Americanized. They had service issues. The waiter clearly didn’t know these dim sum items, even after saying that they always serve dim sum. He brought out someone else order of Shanghai dumplings to us because he was unsure what it was he was serving. The patio in the back is truly an asset and it was wonderful being outside in a classy setting. But we had to chase down our waiter to not only order the food after sitting outside for a while, but to return and allow us to pay for the check after a long absence after giving us the check. The unfortunate street side of this place has seen better days as well, as we are greeted with dead plants flanking the door and oddly neglected window decorations in front. It took a long time to get what we ordered(The menu does state 15 minutes) but the quality did not impress for a dim sum Sunday and I would continue to look elsewhere or try their other non-dim-sum menu items. But with the very Chinese-American flavorings of their chow fun, I would not hold high expectations of authenticity.

We got takeout from here and it was excellent! The deluxe fried rice was incredibly savory and delicious, the best either of us have ever tried, and the entrees were excellent as well. The potstickers had too much dough in proportion to the filling, but everything else was so good we will have to go back again soon. Takeout was fast and easy– they have their own parking lot, which is amazing for Walnut Creek. Food was ready within 15 minutes of ordering. They did not supply chopsticks, but that’s not a big deal. The interior looks very nice.

One random Thursday night, my girlfriend and I decided to try this place out. We always pass the restaurant and have always curious since the parking lot is always full. Before we headed over, I read on their website that they offer a late night happy hour from 8 – 9:30pm. When I called to confirm, someone answered and seemed in a rush. He first denied having a happy hour from 8 – 9:30pm, but when I told him that I saw it on their website he quickly said yes and hung up the phone. TIP: Happy Hour Special 3:30−6pm Daily, 8 – 9:30pm Sunday/Monday and Wednesday/Thursday Happy Hour dishes are served on a small plate, but still a great sample portion to share. We shared 3 dishes: Beef Chow Fun, Prawns with Assorted Vegetables, and the Salt and Pepper Pork. Each order comes with Hot and Sour Soup and an Egg Roll. The service was mediocre. The server didn’t ask us what we wanted to drink. Rushed us to order, but took FOREVER to give us our check/pay out our bill.

My boyfriend and I always pass this little place on S Main St. One night curiosity became the best of us and we decided to try this place out after a little research on the web. One and done. PARKING: Free parking in the private lot right next to the restaurant. Limited number of spots, but there is also street parking as well. Street parking is free after 8pm. WAIT: Place wasn’t packed when we arrived, so we were seated right away(and very abruptly). Hostess walked really fast to seat us at our table and just dropped the menus on the table. HAPPYHOUR: Seems like they only«know» about the happy hour special from 3:30−6pm daily. BUT on their website, it advertises that there is a late night happy hour from 8 – 9:30pm(closing) on Sunday/Monday and Wed/Thurs. If you come here for late night happy hour, they won’t give you the happy hour menu unless you ask for it. Portions are relatively small but my boyfriend and I shared 3 dishes($ 5 each) and we were content. FOOD: Plenty of options, but nothing special. The regular dishes are slightly larger than the happy hour portions. Food ain’t too bad. We tried the salt and pepper pork(yum!), beef chow fun(good, not too oily), and prawns with vegetables(refreshing). Soup and egg roll comes with your order. AMBIENCE: There’s an outdoor patio in the back. The inside is dimly lit. Most of the staff seems so rushed here though. Walking around really fast. Didn’t bother to ask if I wanted anything to drink(literally did not get a glass of water until after our soup came). Served us food and walked away soon after. We couldn’t even ask the server for chopsticks because he walked away so fast after he served us our first dish.
