Mathnasium is a math learning center for grades K through 12. Members usually attend two or three times a week for about an hour. Our goal is to significantly increase each child’s math skills, understanding of math concepts, and overall school performance, while building confidence and forging a positive attitude toward the subject.

In Jan 2015, Walnut Creek center opened under new ownership.

More than thirty-​five years ago, Larry Martinek was inspired to find a better way to teach children math. As a teacher-​trainer and consultant in public and top private schools, and father to a mathematically gifted son, Larry possessed an incredibly comprehensive view of education.

Over the next three decades, Larry painstakingly developed and assembled a blend of methods and materials that proved highly effective for students of all ages. Instead of relying on traditional rote memorization and repetitive exercises, Larry’s work focused on helping children build deep mathematical understanding – number sense – by honing their math instincts and getting them to think like Mathematicians.

In the spring of 2002, Larry’s dream came true. Peter Markovitz and David Ullendorff, leaders in the education industry, made Larry and his curriculum the driving force of Mathnasium. Larry introduced his curriculum as the Mathnasium Method

Meet the Business Owner

Revati S.

Business Owner

Revati is a master’s degree holder in English literature & mass communication and also holds a bachelors degree in education. She worked as a lecturer in a college teaching english and was the principal of a high school back in India. She has worked with kids of all ages. She was an investigative journalist and has tons of interesting stories.

She has done her certification in graphic design, multi-​media and computer information systems. She worked as a marketing executive prior to owning this center.

Revati is passionate about education and takes pleasure in working with kids and making the center a fun and loving place filled with enthusiasm. The way kids’ attitude to Math changes from typically disliking to loving Math was a huge motivating factor for buying and owning this center since Jan 2015. They have 2 beautiful daughters Vaishu, who is a senior (pre-​med) in UC Berkeley, and Varshini, who is a sophomore in high school.
