Not enjoyable at all. Run not walk away from this place. Conveniently located in lovely Walnut Creek. Open late with ring the bell service at night.

Since this is such a long review, there are two things I’d like to tell you to summarize what I’m saying below. 1. Don’t go here. 2 I can’t even review a massage because I haven’t had one and I do not plan to pursue one here ever again.
My boyfriend purchased a massage for me via groupon (1hr /​$ 40). He called several times and left 2 or 3 messages regarding the scheduling of the massage. His calls where never returned, however, after a few days of calling someone (male) picked up. While the guy my boyfriend spoke to was polite, he would not allow my boyfriend to SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT because «so many people are making appointments and not showing up».my boyfriend then asked if we could show up that same evening (12.18.13) at 7pm for a massage. the guy told him that would be fine.
After work, we booked it to Marquee and arrived around 7:05/7:10pm.about a 30 minute commute for us.
We found the place easily and where thrilled to find parking right in front of the parlor. The light at the door flashed «open».and we went in. The front area is cute, neat, and clean. The lights where off but it was lit with blue hanging «Christmas» lights. We saw no one at the receptionist desk and assumed he/​she was away on break or something so we waited a few minutes. I got my observation skills on and noticed an I-​pod on the desk (which at first I thought was a cell phone) and that the computer screen wasn’t locked. on the upper right hand corner of the computer screen was a log of voice messages that had been left (about 13 messages).I saw at least two of the messages where from my BF. recognized his phone number… They have a camera on the upper left hand corner if you are facing the reception area. seemed to be on and recording us unhappily waiting.
After about 10 minutes my boyfriend went to the back «hello…hello?.. no one answered. he went through the hallway and opened the back door.“hello?.. hello?».no one answered. OH! that’s right. no one was there and the parlor wasn’t «locked up».mind you the sign up front says they are open until 9PM.
We hung around another 10 minutes hoping that someone really didn’t tell my bf it was ok to show up at 7 for an appointment and then ditch…7:30pm rolled in and we left notes and taped it to the desk. The note kindly requested a follow up phone call. this happened last night… it’s 2:51pm right now but as of 1:45pm no one has called as the note or the 3 voice messages requested.
We went to the att/​phone store next door and told them to keep an eye on the place because the doors weren’t locked. they even said that Marqee s/​b open. even your neighbors where fooled Marquee. well played.
We went to eat dinner. drove by around at 8:38pm. No one was there. They definitely closed well before 9pm.

My boyfriend went to the parlor since no one wanted to pick up the phone today and was greeted by a seemingly kind lady who speaks little English. The fact that she doesn’t speak great English isn’t an annoyance but it IS AN ANNOYANCE when the lack of understanding is so great that she genuinely cannot communicate with clients effectively.
I’ve read other reviews where «Tony», an employee or rep for Marquee, responded to someone saying they are an Equal Opp employer in response to someone commenting on the language barrier. I call B to the S as EEO has nothing to do with hiring someone who CANNOT effectively communicate with clients. Based on what we learned today (see below) I doubt this place even has 15 employees. EEO is applicable to businesses with 15 or MORE employees. Don’t undermine the intelligence of your clients.
The lady at Marquee today told my boyfriend that the lady who was there last night was new and didn’t know to maybe lock up the place… she didn’t know what he meant by pregnancy massage.(yup we are on our way to being 1^st time parents!!)…she also told him that only one person works there at a time. front desk person is the massage therapist… he called Groupon and got his money refunded. I will give her credit. she offered to give a massage right away. she also offered to do it at a later time. Her efforts are appreciated.
IF your employees are ditching early. attend to it. IF they are misinforming potential clients… address it. IF your hours of operation have changed… update those hours accordingly… at least lock up and turn off the «open» lights so people aren’t under the impression you’re open.
With that being said…
DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE A TRY UNTIL THEY GET IT TOGETHER. Overall, poor customer service –based on the aforementioned.
I hope they don’t even reply to my message with some B to the S. Don’t try contacting me or my bf. you’ve had 5 business days to do that since his first phone call. OH but since you’re supposedly open on the weekends. that would include SAT and SUN right? you’ve had 7 weekdays to reach out to us. Just step up your game and service and quit defending poor customer service and management.

From the start, it wasn’t easy. When I arrived for the first appointment, I was told that my appointment wasn’t in their books and they were busy with another client. So I turned around unhappy about the waste of my time.
I then tried repeatedly to get another appointment, with one of the masseuses recommended to me. I also spoke to Tony who was very professional on the phone, but the promised return calls never came.
So I kept calling (as I had a prepaid voucher) and finally managed to schedule an appointment with the recommended masseuse.
When I finally set out (almost two months later) for my appointment, I found a different masseuse, on her first day of work. She was very friendly, and she spoke sufficient English for communication, unlike the person whom I had met at my first unsuccessful shop-​up and who then answered the phone when I tried to make an appointment.
The massage itself was OK. I’ve definitely had better ones. You can clearly sense that the techniques (or the lack thereof) did not come from a professional massage training.
I had booked the massage with a Groupon voucher for $ 39 which claimed a 50% discount. Marquee’s sign on the street says $ 50 for a one hour massage. After the massage, I tipped the masseuse $ 7 which is about 15% of $ 50. However, she said I should give $ 20 as a tip. I told her «no». She said that most customers give $ 20. I still told her no. (Similar experience as to what another customer wrote.) Demanding a tip, especially a 40% one, is unprofessional (in particular for a person who does not seem to be trained in the profession), and it frustrated me. I will not go there again.

What a great experience here! Marquee definitely has the customer at heart. I spoke with the owner excessively and they are dead set on making every experience a memorable one.
The massage I received was from Jenny. This was one of the better massages I have received and would recommend trying this place out. The only pitfall I would say is that the masseuse did ask about a tip after my massage, which didn’t really bother me as she was already going to get one. I could see how asking for a tip would strike a nerve with some people though.
Overall great experience and fair pricing!!!

I still give it one star for the service I received but for the massage I give four stars. I would not come back if it wasn’t for Amy.

I want to add that I did come back for the complimentary massage. Giving it another chance. I was being kind with my review i did mention how uncomfortable it felt in detail.
I never came back after my complaint massage and would never.
Communication is key especially when you are requesting a service and get something completely different.
I also believe the name was changed.

it is hard to start, but this place is horrible. I’m sorry to be so hard, but they are not professional massuerres. I arrived for an appointment at 2 for the $ 40 1 hr massage. Was greeted kindly, but not too professionally. I was told that if I pay by credit/​debit card that there would be a $ 3 charge? Huh!!! Why? Because that is what the bank charges them. I told him that was against the law and plan on following up with my bank to verify that. So the massage was with no direction or comfort, and very hard to understand because of their English is horrible. He massaged me with a blanket on top of me for 30 mins., then sparingly applied oil to my upper body to massage for another 20 mins., then for the lower portion of my body he only stretched my legs. I had to tell him to massage more on my right side because he spent most of his massaging time on my left, which just tensed me up for his lack of evenness. After all done, I used the restroom and when I came to the reception area, he was there waiting with a cup of water, and I was grateful due to the lack luster massage, and then he instructed me that I needed to give him a tip. (excuse me!!!) He became adamant about me leaving him a tip and I told him that I wasn’t. Of course I got a peculiar look. But asking me for a tip is totally unprofessional. This place is horrible and I do not recommend it. You will leave feeling more stressed than when you arrived. I tried to put no stars, but Unilocal wouldn’t allow me. So No stars for me!

I received a massage a few months back and it was fabulous! I would recommend Marquee Day Spa to anyone with tension, pain, discomfort, or someone who simply wants to pamper themselves.
Well worth it!

Had a so so experience here but At least this place cares about their work and try to get it right.

Had a one hour session Friday with Amy. Told her I had ‘gravel’ in my neck. She got rid of it! She’s the very embodiment of tranquility and serenity. Took a week’s worth of stress out of my shoulders and neck. Definitely will return for more!
