Business Owner

Helen started her career in 1991 as an assistant for Gerri Owens at Owens Salon in Walnut Creek. She then moved on to becoming an independent stylist and shortly became the owner of Genesis Salon in Concord. In 2000 Helen joined Joico Int. where she trained under many high profile stylist such as Tabatha Coffey and Anthony Morrison to become an educational advisor. Teaching in-​salon color education as well as working as show support for Joico hair shows, Helen received the 2002 Educator of the Year award. Now as a single mom Helen finds contentment working in Walnut Creek where she has her own cozy space in the new modern salon concept called Sola Salon!

I am very self conscious about going and getting my hair done, one of the many reasons is because when i go to a salon i can’t stand the catty attitudes. Helen is a leader in her industry! She does the most amazing job on my hair and she truly cares. I love that the second I walk into her door she already has a several ideas of what she would like to do to my hair, she truly cares! She is by far the best stylist I’ve seen do the balyage style! I STRONGLY recommend her to anyone who wants to have the best styling experience!

Helen has been responsible for my hair for 15 years. She is constantly learning the latest color/​highlight techniques and she is a magic worker every time. I have gone to other highly recommended stylist but NOBODY has better highlight placement than Helen. She is also great with tones. I have naturally dark hair and she knows how to bring it down a few levels without it being orange, red or yellow. My mother lives in Europe and still comes back to get her hair done by Helen!

Awesome experience! My hair turned out great. You could tell from when I walked in she was examining and plotting how she wanted my hair to look in the end. Taking into consideration any requests that I had (which was not many). The cut and color of my hair was perfection, matching my lifestyle. Will surely be returning!

I had my hair highlighted as well as had a karitin treatment done and I LOVE LOVE LOVE It. The treatment has cut down my morning hair routine time by 20−30min! I would have done this years ago if i knew how fantastic my hair would be after it was done. Helen was fantastic and expained exactly what she was doing. I cant wait till my next apt and highly recommend her!

Helen has incredible natural talent and keeps it up with ongoing training and super hard work. She is the best stylist I’ve ever been to — and I have been to dozens of stylists over the years.
I first discovered her back in 2000 or so when I was still in high school. When I came back from college she had relocated and I lost track of her. Thanks to Unilocal,I found her again and I am so grateful. Besides being a phenomenal stylist, she is a lovely person. She keeps it real and cracks me up. She’s like an old friend who knows how to make my hair look amazing! And her prices are very reasonable. I will not lose track of her again.

Helens my go-​to for anything hair related. I actually found her through a Living Social deal for hair extensions over a year ago, and she’s been doing my hair ever since. She does great ombres and just color overall. Just know your hair is in good hands when you book an appointment with her!

Helen is fabulous! She is a true artist in coloring/​styling. She began undoing the nightmare I’ve gone through over the last year with my blonde hair. Away went the gold, gray, white, and brown streaks that I’ve learned to live with over the last year and hello again to the Angel-​Soft Blonde I’ve been missing for far too long. Because of Helen, I look like me again and no longer sigh when looking at myself in the mirror. From the initial call, to the consultation, and through the beginning of correcting the awful coloring done by others, Helen has been amazing. She listened, made suggestions, decided a plan of action, and put the plan in motion. The results have been a miracle for me. I’m a Blonde again… yea!!! What sets Helen apart from other stylists is that she truly cares about making you feel fantastic when you leave her salon. That’s priceless! Thank you so very much Helen. Helen has been doing my color and cuts for about ten years, which is the longest time I have stuck with one hairdresser. I am particular about my hair, and I have always been pleased with how she does my highlights/​lowlights and cuts. She always has great style ideas and knows the very latest in techniques. Her salon atmosphere is the best I have ever experienced – very private and peaceful. Parking is so easy and free! One truly feels pampered at Hair x Helen!

I have been getting my hair done by Helen for a couple years now, and I can’t beleive how perfect it comes out every time. She is the only stylist I have ever gone back to again and again, and I have been to LOTS of stylists. (i’m really, REALLY picky about my hair). She gets it right every single time. She really listens to what you want, and always does her best to deliver. Her prices are reasonable, and she also works evenings, (which is a huge plus). The salon is super cute, and there is always parking ;)

Stefani Martin is amazingly knowledgeable about hair, products and techniques. She is the only stylist I’ve been to who actually teaches the customer about their hair, best products to use and techniques that I can do myself. I actually feel that I can have salon styled hair at home now. Salon is modern with an energetic good vibe and is super clean. Can’t wait for my next appointment!
