Chang & Mullin, DDS

Dr. Chang has been my dentist for 20+ years. Over this time period I have received the absolute best dental care available, which is especially important to me as a person with a serious autoimmune disease. Dr. Chang carefully and sensitively cleans my teeth herself, evaluating each tooth as she goes, noticing minute details such as small chips and evidence of tooth wear in some area. As she does her skillful work, time passes quickly. I look out on a peaceful garden scene featuring birds, geese and squirrels nibbling seeds among the trees. Dr. Chang also provides just the right amount of conversation, considering I have my mouth open and instruments working away. She remembers many details about my health issues and my personal life. I have been so pleased with this dental office that I convinced my husband to come here too! Janet, the office manager, always has a smile and a nice personal touch as she professionally schedules my next appointment. I would recommend this dental office without reservation.

My husband and I have been been going to Drs. Chang and Mullin for nearly 30 years, and while our children lived at home with us, they were also patients of these two wonderful dentists. It is not only enjoyable to interact with both Drs. Chang and Mullin, they are each very skilled and sensitive to their patients’ needs. They listen well, and perform all procedures with care and precision. Everyone in the office is extremely pleasant, including Janet, the receptionist and office manager. I highly recommend Drs. Chang and Mullin!

I was referred to Dr. Mullin and Dr. Chang several years ago and I am sooo glad I made that appointment! Years later, I’m still going to them (have been seen by both) and I wouldn’t think of going to anyone else. If I had to move, I would fly back to California for my dentist appointments. The whole staff is caring, professional, kind and truly cares! Thank you all for making my dentist experiences actually wonderful! :)

I have been going to both dentists for 20 plus years. During that time, they have performed many procedures and I have always been impressed by their sensitive and skilled caring ways. They take care of the dental needs of the young and old and both my husband and I are very happy with the quality of service that we receive.

My husband and I have seen Dr. Chang and Dr. Mullin for years. We have always had a good experience. They and their staff are always friendly and accommodating. I appreciate that they run on time, but you never feel like you are being rushed so that they can get the next patient in. With other doctors I often feel like appointments are overbooked, but I have never thought that with Dr. Chang and Dr. Mullin. They are also family friendly. My daughter was actually disappointed that she didn’t get to go with me for my last appointment. :) I highly recommend Dr. Chang and Dr. Mullin.

Love Drs. Chang and Mullin! Found them on Unilocal after leaving my prior dental office because my crowns kept falling off. I just went through an implant procedure and Dr. Chang was awesome, making sure my new tooth was perfect even though it meant sending it back to the lab to have it redone because I wanted it reshaped. I’ve been with them for a few years now and have nothing but good things to say about the entire staff. They are always professional and do excellent work. They treat you like family — always greet you by name and even remember little things like you like the Packers and black licorice. :-) I highly recommend Drs. Chang & Mullin.

The office of Chang & Mullin DDS is AWESOME! I work next door, and it is so convenient to be able to come in for appointments. Janet is SUPER on top of scheduling, and very flexible for appointments. Janet always greats me with a great smile and by my name, can’t ask for more! Dr Chang and Dr Mullin are very attentive with their care, and regularly give me tooth care tidbits while they are performing their inspections. I love coming to this office and love the care each member of the office provides! THANK YOU!

I saw Dr. Chang to fix a small chip in my tooth recently, and so glad that I did it. Their office is lovely, comfortable, with state of the art exam rooms. Dr. Chang herself is wonderful, QUICK at what she does, and just generally nice to be around! I wasn’t even sure about fixing this chip, but really glad that I did because it was painless, a fast procedure, and looks fantastic… my tooth looks good as new (she did a perfect job matching it, and with the shape), and this small fix makes a big difference in my smile. Go see them, they will do a great job!

I went here because I had a terrible experience with a dentist. I was told I had several cavities. I came here and the dentist thoroughly looked at my teeth, took some x-​rays, and was very personable and kind. My insurance wouldn’t cover the appointment sadly. The dentist gave me an AMAZING discount. He was definitely understanding and sensitive to the fact that I am a young college student that had already wasted enough money on my perfectly healthy teeth. Great experience, clean office, GREAT staff.

Dr. Chang and Dr. Mullin are great dentists and amazing human beings. Their team, Janet, Sarka, and Mary are equally warm, friendly, and professional. I would recommend any family member or friend and feel pretty lucky I found them 5 years ago.

I’ve been here multiple times, and it’s always been a pleasant experience. Very thorough, everyone’s super nice, AND THERE’S SQUIRRELS AND DUCKS OUTSIDE THE WINDOW! I have been coming here for myself and my twin boys for a couple of years now. I was so relieved to find Dr. Chang and Dr. Mullin after my sons previous dentist moved to San Francisco. We have moved to Napa County but still make our trips down to their offices because they are the best and I trust them totally. Very kind dentist and an outstanding office staff in the form of Janet.

Dr. Chang is usually, definitely, the best dental professional. We seemed to be never a lover from the dental professional because of just about all our earlier dental professional ordeals, but an appointment to be able to Dr. Chang’s workplace cleared all those remembrances.

My review applies directly to those who have individual plans and those who are consciousness of how much their being billed. A periodical teeth cleaning with an oral evaluation cost over $ 150.00. My insurance company was accepted without any problems when I had a Group Plan. However now that I have an Individual Plan, my insurance issues a reasonable allowance for each the teeth cleaning and evaluation which the dentist has to abide by. The allowance amount was slightly over $ 100.00.
Dr. Chang/​Mullin refused this. I chose this particular plan so that I could have Dr. Chang/​Mullin as my dental provider. It was a Platinum PPO, which they said they accept. But as an Individual Plan, the billing policies differ from a Group Plan; I did not know this, nor did the dentist! Because they cannot bill what they want to, they decided to turn me away as a patient, as it was stated, «it is not feasible».
If having you as a patient is not financially beneficial, they have no shame in turning you away. It disgusts me because they were my dentist for more than one year. As soon as I changed my plan from Group to Individual w/​exact same Insurance Company, they made it clear that my policy did not meet their standards. I received an e-​mail after they learned that my plan had an allowance amount asking if they should go ahead and cancel my next appointment? This is not appropriate Customer Service; why are they not asking how they can help resolve this issue?
For those who don’t like being taken advantage of, please be advised. This dentistry is billing whatever they want and it’s just unfair. Even for Walnut Creek, they are expensive and please understand that the service is not exceptional. My last teeth cleaning was the worst cleaning I ever received, but a teeth cleaning is not a root canal, so it’s not a huge deal. But no one wants to be subject to paying top $$$$ for dental service and customer service that is less than top quality.

I had my first appointment today and it was excellent. Dr. Mullin was super nice and friendly.Dr. Mullin is full of knowledge. He spent a good amount of time explaining everything that’s going on in my mouth and made simple recommendations on how to improve my cleaning techniques. It is rare to find a healthcare professional now a day who would give you more than 5 minutes of his/​her time and if you are lucky to get more time you feel like you are being rushed. I also like the fact that I had a dentist clean my teeth vs a dental hygienist. Dr Mullin and I had a good conversation while he was cleaning my teeth and I left the office feeling quite trustworthy of my new dentist.
Sidenote: The receptionist, Janet, is also super nice and helpful.

Here’s the secret to my dazzling smile: Dr. Chang.
I visit her about twice a year for my regular cleanings. Dr. Chang does them herself, the old skool way, with lots of patience and care. She is very gentle, so my gums aren’t sore afterwards. She is calm, super nice, and takes time to answer all of my questions. I get to enjoy the view with the ducks and fat squirrels from the windows. :) This would be a great office to bring your kids to.
Her office is easily accessible from the freeway. There is usually parking available in the lot right outside. Her office staff is friendly and efficient. They take a wide variety of insurance types and handle all of the billing for you. They also don’t try to sell you treatments that you don’t need. Highly recommended!

LOVE-​LOVE-​LOVE THIS OFFICE!
After bad dentists and bad work I came to Dr. Chang and Dr. Mullin’s office through a friend. Going to their office feels like stopping by a friend’s house. It’s got such a great feel to it! Their patient rooms all look out onto a creek with ducks and squirrels passing by amongst the beautiful trees! It’s so relaxing.
I’ve only seen Dr. Mullin and he is such a great guy! Very knowledgeable and full of great suggestions. He and his staff remember me and I really appreciate that!
In January I brought my new husband to their practice. My husband had been without insurance for a number of years and has a lot of old work that needs new work. Dr. Mullin explained everything, gave us an order of events and the referrals we needed. Since then I’ve gone in for cleanings and every time Dr. Mullin (and the staff) ask for a status update on my husband. I love the feeling of building a relationship with someone working on the only set of teeth I’ve got!
I have two crowns — one by Dr. Mullin and one by another dentist. This morning the other dentist’s crown fell out (gr). I called Dr. Mullin’s office and in just a few hours they’ll be re-​cementing the crown for me!
I am so confidant in Dr. Chang and Dr. Mullin’s office that I refer as many people as possible (most recently my newest co-​worker) — and I hope you’ll see them too!!!

So I haven’t been to the dentist since 2006, I think? Well it’s been quite awhile. I had so many scared past thoughts about electric teeth cleaners, plastic gloves squeaking, and bleeding gums. I’m sure everyone hates going to the dentist if their first experiences were bad.
BUT…picture this:
You come in to sit in Dr. Chang’s dental chair and get to observe through the picture window of lush nature scenery. You see the geese come eat seeds at the window, then comes the little birds. The squirrels seem curious, so they come eat from the bird houses and scare off the little birds. As the little birds run off, blue jays fly in to see what the ruckus is about. Then so on…
Well pretty much I get the same show every time I come in (being my third time) and it makes my visit so much more relaxing.
Dr. Chang is full of knowledge and extremely skilled with the instruments. If you got sensitive gums, you should come here. I’ve got an awesome teeth cleaning, which I got an extra hours worth because a patient cancellation. Just don’t wait until the ‘plaque becomes tarter’, which gets to be cement-​like and harder to get off.
And today, I came in for a cavity filling. You can choose to get numb (recommended) for weak people like me. And if you choose to get numb, make sure you eat before coming in. Because after you leave, you wont be able to eat for 3 hours! That could be long for some people (ok me).
I chose to close my eyes and think of happy geese eating the seeds at the window, so I don’t have to look at the large metal instruments in my mouth. When she was done, my tooth filling was flawless. Even down to the right color shade. She did such a great job, I couldn’t even tell that it was filled. The best part was it didn’t hurt.
Conclusion:
My husband thinks Dr. Chang is one of the best dentists’ he’s had and if all of his previous dentists were as good as Dr. Chang, he would see the dentist more often. I totally agree. If your in the East Bay and been avoiding the dentist for the same reasons. Try Dr. Chang.

As I waited for Doctor Mullin I noticed the big windows that looked out to the beautiful scenery – nature was all around me which seemed to have a calming effect. The office was a bit dated and they do not have the state of the art equipment or flat screen T. V’s other places have, but the staff are really friendly. I was pretty nervous because I hadn’t been to the dentist in a couple years. I was pleasantly greeted by Dr. Mullin. He was extremely nice and made me feel more comfortable. He told me great stories while doing my cleaning and we had nice conversation. I was even more happy to find out I had no cavities – phew!
As I was paying I realized that I was charged way more than they quoted me over the phone and i left there thinking that even though I really liked Dr. Mullin I probably won’t go back there because it was too expensive. So a week later I get something in the mail from Dr. Mullins office and enclosed there was a note explaining that he realized they had charged me too much and he sent a check refunding me some of my money. I thought that was incredibly sweet and now I know I will be going back!
