I have have gotten pastries here and everyone thought they were delicious. I decided to order a graduation cake. I ordered a yellow cake and they gave me chocolate. Plus they do not have boxes to fit the cakes. It was very difficult to get it home and to store in my fridge. When I called to let the bakery know they didn’t believe me when I told them I asked for a yellow cake and did not take into consideration they should communicate the cake may not fit in the boxes. Basically, they were annoyed I called to complain. I do not know if this happens in all locations but the Wallingford location is disappointing and not concerned about customer experience.

WORSTBAKERYINNEWHAVENCOUNTY!!! Do NOT waste your time or money at this sham of a «bakery» First they messed up my birthday cake. It was filled with frosting so thick that when you went to cut it the whole cake just collapsed. 3 layers of 1″-1.5″ frosting in between 4 thin sliver slices of cake then frosted again with a thick coat of buttercream. Basically its not a cake but rather a tall stack of frosting. They put so much filler in the cake(I use the term cake very loosely, Bc its basically non existent) so that they can save money so you’re paying $ 40 for sugar and cream. It’s inedible!!! So I bring it back to see if they’ll return my money and they refuse. They tell me they’ll make me a holiday cake for thanksgiving. Which I decline Bc I didn’t enjoy their first cake why would I want a second one. The owner assures me that he’ll personally make it and he’ll make it better. Less frosting, more cake etc… So I finally agree knowing that it’s a new cake or nothing … So I go to pick up my holiday cake that’s paid for all I have to do is grab it n go! Wrong! They require you to take a number and get in line. I kindly ask what is the point of pre ordering if you still have to wait in line. The very rude woman at the counter replies that everyone waits. Something I could understand IF everyone was picking up a pre ordered cake. But that’s far from the case. The 20 people in front of me were all ordering cookies and pastries one by one taking their sweet time(pardon the pun) all along while the cashier girl is standing down at the other end with nothing to do. So again I say can’t she just grab my cake and hand it to me? What is the point of making anyone wait for other people to order cookies when We could be out the door by the time they’ve finished? The woman was rude again so I walked out. It’s bad business and bad customer service. They could have had half the line if they ran it more efficiently. If the cashier was grabbing pre ordered cakes and ringing people out. Then when the Customers ordering their cookies one by one were done the cashier would be ready for them. The line would be gone and they wouldn’t be backed up for hours. Work smarter not harder, something Mazicatto’s bakery has apparently never heard of. So I go back a second time trying to pick up this cake and the second visit is worst than the first… I don’t know who would employee such rude inconsiderate people but apparently good help is hard to find! Ultimately, they waste their customers very precious holiday hours when we all have a million other things we could be getting done. I hope that they read this… Let me inform you that my mother is terminally ill and is barely alive while my grandfather is now in the ICU Dept of the hospital with heart failure. I have more pressing issues than waiting in line for a cake that I didn’t even want. What I wanted was my money back. So thank you for wasting my precious hours that could have been spent with my sick family and in turn that I’ll never get back. Have a little compassion and try to be helpful instead of nasty rude and inconsiderate.

I have been dying to go to this bakery forever. After driving by it a million times, I finally stopped in today. I was greeted right away by a friendly girl and she was very helpful. The store was beautiful. So clean, it was almost sparkling. I purchased a slice of carrot cake, cream puff, 2 cannoli’s and a chocolate chip cookie. I paid $ 13 for all. Not horrible pricing. I’ve been to places that were not good and was charged more. Everything we got was delicious and fresh. I am not sure what other reviewers were talking about with their cannoli experience, but I found my cannoli’s to be wonderful. The only complaint I have is I found all of the Italian food products for sale in the store to be oddly placed. They had pasta, sauces, etc. in big metal racks in the middle of the store. It looked low budget, which didn’t match the rest of the beautiful space. I would definitely suggest those items be moved to a different area on nicer shelves that match the rest of the décor. I think it’s safe to say, I will be back!

Went here for the first time to get some Italian cookies and I’m so happy I found this place! Very clean and they have a nice selection of pastries. The girl behind the counter was super nice and gave me some samples of cookies to try before I purchased. I appreciate good customer service and a clean place that sells delicious cookies!

I’ve been to this bakery on two separate occasions. I found the cookies to be good — but I can understand why some of the other reviewers said that they are perhaps overly sweet and maybe not as distinctly flavorful. I did try a cannoli when I was in and really liked it though. The store is immaculately clean and I found the waitstaff to be extremely and helpful. Seating is plentiful and it’s a nice place to sit and have your pastries and coffee once you have ordered them.

I love this place. It could easily thrive in NYC. The pastries are quality, the service is great and the physical space is clean and modern. My family comes here every weekend to relax and satisfy our sweet tooths.

I bought a ricotta and nutella pie for eater… Delicious. There was a line to the door to order pastries but it went quickly which was a plus, I am very impatient. The place is clean and there are a ton of items to choose from and are fresh. I will be going back for some more!

I’ve eaten pastries from Mozzicato’s several times. It’s a nice looking establishment with good looking food. That’s where the positive stops unfortunately. This is hardly an Italian bakery. It’s more like an American version of an Italian bakery. Make sense? Everything I had was overly sweet. And the cannoli just isn’t good. Very sweet and light. Cannoli should not be sweet and traditionally has chocolate chips in the filling. Sometimes it doesn’t but still is not sweet. Very disappointing. Most all other pastries I purchased were run of the mill and just not what I was used to growing up. I went against every fiber of my being and purchased cannoli from Stop & Shop bakery the other day and they were more of what a cannoli should be. Prices were very high. A bit higher than what I’m used to at any other Italian bakery but the quality wasn’t up to snuff. Staff is nice enough. No complaints there. I probably won’t ever be back. I’ll stick to my regular places. My recommendation is of course to go there and give them a shot though. You might love their style!

I want to be upfront that I am generally not a fan of Italian pastries but have found a couple exceptions over the years so wanted to give this place a shot. I bought an assortment of pastries because that is my favorite kind of bakery item(no cupcakes here). I have tried 3 of the 6 and found them all to be edible but in no way memorable or super tasty. I tried the carrot cake, the cheesecake with raspberry on top and a chocolate cake pastry with raspberry mousse frosting. All the cakes and frostings lacked flavor– not too sweet and the flavor was not off-putting but is one of those things where you think, «This is not worth the calories.» I still have 3 other ones to try but that will wait till tomorrow. Still on my quest to find a bakery I can get excited about in Wallingford.

Two stars for clean and pretty but this is not my idea of an Italian bakery. The pastry fillings just aren’t right. The cannoli had no chips in the filling was just wrong-more like whipped cream cheese. There were little cakes with pretty decorations but I had doubts about the frosting which turned out to be sugary not butter cream. The almond tarts had raspberry in them and there weren’t any sfogliatelle. There were three people ahead of me and one girl working the counter-not sure what the other clerk was doing but I waited through their indecision and was disappointed. I’m not a coffee drinker so I didn’t pay much attention but there are tables with chairs if you want to eat in. I didn’t.

I’ve tried 5 different types of cakes on different occasions, they were stale tasting every time and bottom 1st layer of cake very soggy and not desirable. The only cake ive tried that is ok, is the chocolate mousse. I can always tell when cake or pastries have been out all day then placed in the fridge over night. It seems that’s what they do here. I don’t like their cookies except for the rainbow cookies and their cannolis are OK. Overall, very much dissatisfied and disappointed.

Wow — to Joe C. who reviewed the cannoli he had. My 4 stars for Mozzicato is ONLY for the cannoli! I was going to start out my review saying the cannoli is the only reason I will come here. I don’t like Italian pastries in general and have never like Mozzicato in Hartford. But… the reason we came to Wallingford was just to have the cannoli that my husband(who is Italian) raved about. It is not on display, nor is there a sign even mentioning they have cannolis. You must ask for it. Request the ricotta cannoli, which is filled to order so the shell does not get all soggy. It is a very light cream, which is what we love about it. It is not thick and goopy and bordering on «stale»(crusty edges) like Libby’s cannolis are from sitting on display too long after being filled. So, if you want a great cannoli and a cup of cappuccino along with it, this would be the place to go.

They make perhaps one of the absolute worst cannoli’s in the state of Connecticut. There I said it. The cannoli pastry is probably the one Italian pastry by which all Italian pastry shops are judged. IMO if an Italian pastry shop can’t get their cannoli right then they might as well hand in their Italian red-white-green flag card. The cannoli I purchased from Mozzicato’s was really really weird. Its ricotta cream was too light and it had a light consistency of whipped cream. WTF. Good ricotta cream filling is suppose to be dense and not very sweet. Mozzicato’s ricotta cream filling was unlike anything this Italian boy has ever experienced in his life. Well I guess I learned something… if you want a decent cannoli then go to southern Connecticut. In my neck of the woods, Meriano’s, Lucibello’s, and Libby’s all make decent cannoli’s. Mozzicatto make have a great reputation in the Hartford area, but compared to other Italian pastry shops in the state their cannoli’s can’t compete. By the way, I had gotten other pastry items from here(they were OK), but like I said, the cannoli is this Italian boy’s general yardstick when it comes to Italian pastry shops.

They get an A for presentation, but the high marks end there. I have sampled a variety of their offerings, from their Italian cookies to rum cake, hoping that each new discovery would redeem the last. I gave this place a fair chance, but what it comes down to is that this place is merely a fancy façade to mediocre baked goods. When you first walk in, you are immediately overwhelmed by a plethora of divinely decorated pastries displayed behind a long counter of glass cases. But don’t let the fancy presentation fool you; it’s really the extent of the enjoyment factor. The flavors are just… blah. I have also tried their stuffed breads, which were disappointingly not delicious; the bottoms of both breads were saturated in moisture, thus rendering a soggy texture that could only be fixed by heavily, or perhaps even overly, toasting them to a burnt crisp. Not to mention, the fillings were skimpy and bland at $ 10 a piece. Overall, this place is visually appealing, but they are overpriced, overrated, and under-zealous in the very decadent flavors that hallmark a truly delicious baked good. Although out of town, I highly recommend the Elmwood Pastry Shop in West Hartford. They are sinfully scrumptious, and they have a better variety. So, if you find yourself with a sweet tooth and you’re craving something chocolate-y, or just decadent, savory, orgasmic-in-your-mouth, delectably memorable, and worth every last straight-to-your-ass calorie of confectionary consumption, then this is NOT the place for you. Do yourself a favor and either visit the aforementioned alternative, or the bakery at Shoprite, which is surprisingly much better than Mozzicatos.

Great Service here and I think that alone shows you how much they appreciate your business. The Bakery was really nice inside. I tried a couple of their cakes and cookies and I wasn’t to crazy about it.

Classic italian bakery. The cannoli rock, the tiramisu sucks, and the rest is what you’d expect.

if you like straight up Italian pastry, this place might be heaven for you. Quality seemed ok, but one thing that makes me worry is when I am in a bake shop minutes before they close and all the cases are full. So — all these pastry are going to sit out all night. Don’t most bakeries make stuff fresh in the morning? A nice addition to Wallingford.

Overpriced and bland, flavorless pastry. Not one dollop of butter, cream, real vanilla or any quality ingredients, have touched any of these pastries. They are pretty to look at, as more effort is made on decorating them, than on composing them. The pastry cream inside the eclairs tasted like wallpaper paste., and they cost $ 2.50 a piece. The cookies I didn’t bother to buy, they looked like large lumps of vegetable shortening and flour, scooped out of an ice cream scooper and baked. I ordered a latte and for $ 3.75, the gal pulled out an 8 ounce cup, I told her never mind. When will real pastry makers set up shop? It seems everyone thinks the consumers are stupid and will continue to buy low quality goods. Please, don’t waste good calories and money on pure junk like this. I’ll bake my own.

Not sure why so many negative reviews but makes you think. So I stopped in this morning since the Franklin Ave location was never disappointing. So This bakery is super clean, the staff was extremely helpful! I bought Sfogliatelle, Italian bread, and rainbow pastries. All were very very good, fresh, perfect flavors! The Sfogliatelle was crispy on the outside, nice cream in the middle. Very happy they opened near us! You have a steady customer now!
