Meletharb Ice Cream is a family business, owned and operated by 3 generations!

When Bart and his son Don decided to open an ice cream store the big question was… what to name it? After much creative thinking and deliberation the name Meletharb came to be, by Bart and Don spelling their last name backwards, sort of. With a unique name and a father/​son team Meletharb Ice Cream opened its doors on March 20, 1976. They ran the business for 5 years in downtown Wakefield. Then in 1981, the same year Don’s daughter Kate was born, they moved to their current location on Lowell Street in Wakefield. Now, in its 33rd year, Bart, Don and Kate are all still proudly making and serving premium ice cream for the good folks of the North Shore. Stop by and see them sometime!

This place is fantastic, It’s the best ice cream joint around, I don’t think there is any question. So I haven’t tried any of the cakes or sundaes but Straight up ice cream is what counts the most and it is amazing, I recommend the Baklava ice cream in a waffle cone no need for any topping but I bet it wouldn’t hurt. Service is fast and friendly, I can’t think of anything to realistically complain about.

I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt with 3 stars since I’m fairly sure I just had a bad experience. I tried a bite of their baklava ice cream (as delicious as touted), but I ordered a nutella milkshake. I’m not sure what happened, but the shake certainly didn’t taste like Nutella and hardly tasted like ice cream. It was a milky, slightly ice creamy bland drink. I did see a huge chunk of ice cream fall out while the guy was making the shake, so maybe that contributed to the flavorlessness.
I’m not sure what that was about, but I was not enthused with paying over $ 6 for a shake that tasted like nothing. I’ll be back to try other choices and hopefully it will prove that this was a one off experience.

So this was my 2nd experience at Meletharb’s and if my first one was like my second one… well, I’d probably be the dutchess of this place, but since my first experience soured me… I’ll tread lightly on my admiration at this point.
First time I went in there, it was a hot summer day in August, early afternoon, and they were unapologetically out of every flavor I asked for. I mean, come on, it’s a hot summer day… obviously people are going to want ice cream. Make more of your popular flavors. Regardless, I ended up with a coconut something or other and it was good, but I was annoyed.
Now fast forward a couple of years and my hubby and I want some ice cream, but we are not interested in driving to Richardson’s in traffic. He suggests Meletharbs… I cave. Mind you, I did call first ask if they were out of anything. They were fully stocked so we went!
I tried the Baklava (after reading Unilocal reviews raving about it), and the Nutella. Both were tasty and I ended up buying the Baklava and the hubs for Coffee Oreo. Also very very good. The Baklava actually has chunks of the pastry through it. They also have a cannoli ice cream that I can’t wait to try.
The staff was nice and accommodating. I will definitely go back, and who knows… maybe I’ll raise my review to 5 stars after another stellar visit or 2.

Creative flavors and super creamy, great quality ingredients. We’ve tried the Cannoli and the Baklava, both delicious, but our favorite is the Nutella. It has an unbelievable texture and tastes amazing. Also, this place is open until 10 pm on week nights in warmer weather, a rarity around these parts for you night owls! Yummmmmm.

I ordered a small coconut almond chip ice cream in a cone. It was two huge scoops of ice cream. The ice cream was to die for. So good, loaded with chips and whole almonds. I could finish the whole thing. Will definitely be back.

Love this place!!! This cute family run ice cream shop has super friendly staff and really good ice cream; some of the best in Boston that I’ve tried. I really like the baklava and amaretto but it’s nice that they let you try as many of the flavors as you want. I definitely recommend coming here if you’re in the area!

Came here after a friend recommended it. Got the small size baklava ice cream, which is very sweet and actually filling. The price is a little high for the size and it was a little too sweet for my taste.

Searching for a great hot fudge sundae on Unilocal brought me to the oddly named Meletharb in Wakefield. Tried them out last weekend and I’m so glad we did. They stack up to the best out there in terms of quality and price, like Christina’s in Cambridge and Rancs in Lexington and much better than JP Licks. One of the few places with tasty hot fudge sauce. On Unilocaler’s recommendation I tried the sweet cream ice cream which was great and had them add some salted caramel topping to the mix. Their whipped cream is fresh tasting and homemade. The location is not very inviting but the parking is easy and the parlor was nicely chilled on a very hot Saturday. And for those complaining about price, you get what you pay for.

Stumbled upon this place and was happy we did! I chose the baklava ice cream– cause when can you order baklava ice cream? I really liked the pieces of puff pastry and tasty honey flavor. It was sweet and I usually opt for simpler flavors, so I wish I got a kiddie instead of a small. My only complaint is that prices were pretty high (my small sized ice cream that wasn’t that big to begin with was $ 4.20). I’d go back though and try more flavors!

The ice cream is constantly outstanding always creamy, rich and full of flavor. I was worried when I heard Dino’s bought it, but my fears have been proven unnecessary. The new owners seem to have maintained the quality. And the young people who work there are so friendly. If you haven’t tried Meletharbs you are missing out!

The baklava ice cream is the freshest, most delicious ice cream I have ever had. Maybe I’m biased since it is a cuisine of my people, but nothing beats it! I love this place and I’ve brought friends here from the city just so they can try it. Location isn’t bad either; great place to get ice cream and then take a walk by the lake!

This is one of my favorite ice cream Sunday stops. It’s amazingly delicious.
They have kept the quality the same for the last 30 years.
It will not disappoint. The ice cream is super premium and satisfying. I would go out of my way to come here.
The service is always friendly. During busy times of day they keep the lines moving quickly. I highly recommend stopping here.

There is a plethora tastes that you can choose from at this little ice cream place. Most of them a truly unique, like coconut almond or walnut maple, both of which I tried and was really impressed by. Perfect consistency, right amount of whole nuts and coconut flakes, and rich in flavor. The staff was also incredibly helpful with suggestions and I was able to try different kinds before I settled on the two flavors mentioned above. The experience could only be improved if the coffee served with the ice cream would be of higher quality.

Good ice cream shop. Flavors aren’t super flavorful but they have some unique ones. Ice cream is nice and creamy. A bit pricey.

Nutella: It wasn’t as flavorful as I expected. I’d like to see swirls or chunks of Nutella.
Coffee Oreo: My favorite flavor. Needs more chunks of Oreo and it would be perfect!
Baklava: Very different. It wasn’t bad but not my favorite.
White Pistachio: Pistachio but white. Good but not the best I’ve ever had.

This is a great little ice cream shop. It makes wonderful homemade ice cream cakes, and offers many flavors. However, I wish there was better outdoor seating and that the few tables indoor more kept cleaner. I understand there’s always kids running around making a sticky mess of the place but with all the staff on board, try to keep the place orderly!

Oh this place is bad. Bad bad bad. I don’t even like ice cream and I CRAVE this place!!! And I’ve only been there once! I had the chocolate and vanilla soft serve (sooo good) and my fiancé had the nutella and frozen pudding. He was confused by the pudding at first. It’s banana pudding with those vanilla wafers! YUM!!!

Very good ice cream. But the prices are crazy. IT’S ICE CREAM! Is this government ice cream to help balance the budget? Was there all the sudden an ice cream tax hike I didn’t hear about? Is it made with gold? Do these cows have Midas milk? Is there a herd being bred and held at the Navatican?
Frappes are almost 8 bux and bana splits are 10 bux!
Why am I here… oh because i’m addicted to ice cream.

Local ice cream parlor that has been getting all kinds rave reviews. Decided to check it out and all the Unilocal comments were spot on. They give free samples of anything and everything if you can’t make up your mind!
Tried four, and settled on their M&M.
Even this time of year it was totally refreshing. Will make this now a regular stop !
Great to bring a quart to someone when going over for dinner. Be back soon!

I love the unusual ice cream flavors, but the last time I went I was disappointed.
When I went in the man helping us kept talking and wouldn’t take our order!
I ordered coffee chip, which was extremely strong and barely any chocolate chips.
I do love the PB&J and nutella flavors.
