Mark’s Smoke Shop and News Stand

I cannot compliment or show my loyalty and support for Mark’s place enough. Mark’s is a real old school smoke shop that absolutely needs to be tried. The selection and range of cigars is outstanding and unmatched. Having smoked cigars for more than 20 years and constantly traveling, I have had the good fortune of being able to experience many smoke shops… None compare to the kind service Mark’s provides. I understand the convenience and ease of shopping online for cigars, but a major part of enjoying a well crafted hand made cigar is the experience of personally hand selecting, seeing, comparing along with the advice and service you get ONLY at an authentic cigar shop.
If you want a huge selection of cigars in every price range and the exceptional customer experience of a old fashioned cigar shop… Just stop in, introduce yourself to Mark and you too will enjoy your visit!

I was looking for a decent place to shop for cigars in the area. Typically I would go to Brennan’s Smoke Shop in Plymouth, but I happened to be on the North Shore and did a google search for a cigar/​smoke shop. I was pretty impressed with the selection and inventory for this place overall, especially for the size. Basically it’s small but packs a big punch.

High quality cigar shop in the heart of Wakefield. The guy working gave me great advice on a smoke and even threw in a free punch. Will definitely return for all my cigar needs.

When I asked for his opinion the store owner was barely any help and didn’t seem to have much knowledge about his own merchandise. After deciding what to buy with zero help, I then attempted to pay with my debit card. It easily had enough money to cover the purchase amount, but for some reason it was declined. Clearly his machine was not working properly. When I asked him to try again he began getting angry and accused me of stealing the debit card and not being who I said I was (I had already showed him my valid Massachusetts driver’s license). After this ridiculous argument I convinced him to let me pay with a credit card. My experience ended with him yelling and swearing at me. The owner is a rude and paranoid man. Be careful if you ever chose to chose to buy a cigar from here. I know this will be my last time.

Love Mark’s. I could purchase online but Mark and his team are super friendly and I want to frequent the businesses in my town. Mark always greets with a smile and we catch up on things.
His cigar choices are fantastic and I always leave with an «extra» cigar. Great prices, for Massachusetts and great service, in town. Can’t get any better than Mark’s.

I like cigars, but am certainly not an aficionado. Whenever I go into this shop, the staff (and customers hanging out smoking a cigar) are super friendly & helpful.
Very approachable place, good prices, and a huge selection. Definitely recommend stopping by if you are looking to pick up a cigar or two.

Just a general comment. The prior review by Dave W. is crap. It should be pulled from MSS’s ratings since he has little nice to say about any cigar shop.
Mark’s Smoke Shop has been my go to cigar place since I moved to the area in 1996.
Mark opened his shop around the same time and has built a solid no nonsense business servicing the Wakefield community.
Every year the shop get’s better and better. By the way… Mark works the shop most of the time and he knows the smokes. Ask him about his trips to Rocky Patel!!!
Even though for me MSS is now is out of the way. I continue to make the trip rather than ordering online.
When I walk into another smoke shop out of pure convenience (Middleton or Danvers etc. which would rate 3) I always feel ripped off.

Mark’s Smoke Shop is hands down the best cigar shop in northeastern MA. He has a deceptively large selection of cigars in his 2-​seat shop. He is very knowledgeable and makes great suggestions when looking for something new. Highly recommended!

Only reason its a 5 is because i’m still new to the cigar habit. I’m a newbie into cigars and went to Marks based on the Unilocal reviews. He gave some great tips on my humidor upkeep, cigar selection and gave some very good customer service. I couldn’t have asked for more. Stop by if you simply have questions like I did Mark will point you in the right direction. Its an unassuming little store but packs a big punch with what it offers. They have a good selection of sticks, and the prices are ok. Everytime I have walked out I have had mixed emotions. The 2 guys i have talked with there are pretty knowledgable because they actually smoke. They helped me pick out a few sticks and i liked some recommendations. But they are not likeable and i have no reason to not buy online or go somewhere else where i will be more comfortable. I felt like they did not want my business, i am 30 and felt like they were talking down to me like a kid. I probably will not go back unless i am out of options and its an emergency.

Mark’s is the perfect place to find a huge selection of fine cigars, and — just like picking out a cigar — don’t let the size fool you. It may be a small «hole in the wall» shop, but the level of service, welcoming feel and various options to chose from is the trade off, and a good one at that!
Mark is awesome, & will even place a custom order for you if needed. The other gentleman who works there is also very pleasant and makes sure you find what you’re looking for, but without hovering over your shoulder.
They carry some hard to find labels as well, and my personal favorite (yeah right, like there is only one), is the Edge, by Rocky Patel. For $ 5.75 you can’t beat the flavor, quality and length of smoke.
They also have some nice «buck a’sticks», meaning, some inexpensive cigars that may cost you $ 2 or $ 3 bucks, but have nice flavor and are perfect for when you would like a smoke, but it doesn’t warrant a $ 6, $ 7, $ 8 splurge. For example, I like to have a cheaper one when mowing the lawn or in times that I can’t really sit to appreciate a finer one.
They also have a great selection of cigar accessories too. Humidors, cutters, lighters, ash trays, and other materials are located in the back right or in the glass case. If you are a pipe smoker, this is your spot too, as they have a nice array of pipes for sale, and great quality of pipe tobacco.
As I am in the planning stages for my ultimate «man cave», what I also like about Mark’s is they sell their empty boxes for $ 1 each, sometimes $ 2 if it is a very nice one. These are great for tool benches, decoration around a game room or said man cave, or unique to give a mix of cigars in when presenting as a gift.
All in all Mark’s is great and I would highly recommend not only stopping in to purchase, but meet Mark and sit down inside to enjoy a cigar as well.

It’s quite fitting that as I write this, my 900^th review, it is in regards to a place that sells something for which I have a deep passion for: cigars.

Mark’s is located on Main Street in Wakefield, a town that looks like nothing has changed since the 60s. Check out some of those store fronts — you’d think you travelled back in time to a place where people used to window-​shop and wander around downtown.

Mark’s is small, but they do have a large selection of cigars, as well as pipes and pipe tobacco. Several cutters and lighters are up front as well. As usual, when I walked in, like so many cigar shops, I feel like I am interrupting someone’s conversation, as there was a customer sitting there talking to the guy at the register.

They didn’t have my favorite brand on hand, but they did have a different version of another brand I love but had never seen before. Also got a pack of small cigars as well. Good stuff.

Nice enough place. I’m sure I’ll go back. It seemed fitting that such a store was in such a downtown area as Wakefield, it certainly fits the neighborhood. Anyhow, I’m glad it’s here.

Love it. No messin around. You walk in and, bang, there you go, 100s of cigars, and a bunch of other tobacco products. The guy working there was very nice. Since a good cigar, for me, is like an off-​again, on-​again, love affair, I asked him for a little help picking out the perfect cigar for a «one-​night stand.» (meaning I wasn’t returning to smoking regularly!).
After a few pointed questions, he hooked me up with a nice cigar, explained it well and, damn, if he wasn’t dead on!!! I don’t know if that was Mark, or not, but whoever you were, damn good job!
Mark’s Smoke Shop & News Stand is ensconced amidst a downtown full of shops so I was able to meet someone nearby for a nice sushi dinner and then enjoy a great smoke afterwards. I’m still feelin’ it now.
If you’re a regular smoker, or a newcomer, check out Mark’s and, I guarantee, you’ll end up feelin’ like a little kid in a candy store.
