Didn’t even want to give one star, sorry guys. This place was terrible. After a long flight from out of state, we were really hungry after checking into Bellows. We thought since this was on base it would be okay. Ordered a salad and the cheese was sour/spoiled and had to throw away our food. Thought the grilled cheese would be safe, but the bread tasted stale and the cheese looked dry around the edges like it had been cooked a long while earlier and maybe reheated. Kahlua pork tasted«off» or old and spoiled(both people who ordered it ended up throwing it away because they were scared of getting sick on this first say at Bellows). One person in our party ordered a Teriyaki Chicken sandwich and felt sick to their stomach later. When we told the woman at the front desk about the spoiled cheese, she seemed put out and gave us a dirty look. Just pretty disappointing, coming from an experienced cook who knows that salads, and grilled cheeses are simple and fast to make. Cheese shouldn’t be spoiled and meat should be fresh. Also embarassing traveling with my Dad who was so excited to start of his first trip to Oahu on the right note, and is a retired officer. Go to Serg’s Mexican Kitchen up the street in Waimanalo instead — about the same price and a million times more fresh and tastier!

Heard the food was good. So the hubby and I decided to try them out for a catered service. The good multiple locations. So I called the main location since you can only speak to the owner for a catered service. Here’s the thing, the owner ask me which location to pick our catered pupu style tray. I said Bellows. After I hanged up with the owner, I called the Bellows location to confirm the order.(it’s a habit of mine to call back to confirm my orders especially when it’s a big order of food.) Anyways. The phone number was not in service for the Bellows location. Called the main place and the workers didn’t know either. I called the other locations and I was given phone numbers’ which all were wrong. Tried googling and that number was wrong too. Called the base and I said I was given that number already and it’s wrong. Mind you took me day and half to finally get the right number. Got it from the main location which someone finally track the right number down. Finally to pick up the food: got there early and decided to pay before the food was ready. Should’ve waited. At last one of the worker’s came out with the tray. But. I got turned off when that worker slam the tray on the counter. If you’re upset, don’t show it. You may not have slam the tray on the counter intentionally or just a smug look, but just don’t show it. Especially to customers. The food: some were dry and overlooked. And burnt. Since this is our first catered service. Maybe we’ll give them another try at a different location of Kenekes

Keneke’s located on Bellows Air Force base lives up to its reputation for good plate lunches. They also serve breakfast at this location till 3pm. Location: You have to have military access to eat at this location. It’s located inside Turtle Cove(where you can rent the cabins) all the way in the back of the building. There is plenty of indoor air conditioned seating or you can take your food to go and enjoy the gorgeous view of the beach. At the corner of the building there is a flat screen TV that played kid friendly shows. There is a good amount of parking on the side of the building. Food: It seems like this place serves most of the tasty local plate dishes that the original place serves. It was 2 pm in the afternoon and I choose to eat macadamia nut pancakes. My order came with two thin, yet fluffy pancakes and every bite was met with chopped macadamia nut pieces. Oh so delicious. It would have been amazing IF they added whip cream on this baby and sprinkled it with more macadamia nut goodness. A picture of the macadamia nut pancakes: For my two sons they shared a mini chicken katsu plate. Chicken katsu is usually salted, peppered, dredged lightly in flour, dipped into beaten egg and then coated with panko(bread crumbs) before it’s deep fried. You can choose between rice or french fries and macaroni salad or toss greens. The menu states this is a kid size portion and it was the right amount of food for the booth of them. My oldest is 8 and my youngest is 18 months. I got to taste a couple of pieces. The outside was nice and crunchy. The chicken itself was moist. There is katsu sauce located inside of the beverage fridge on the bottom to dip the chicken in. A picture of the mini katsu plate: My husband ordered the hamburger steak plate. It’s 3 grilled hand made patties topped with brown tasty gravy. Yes, I stole a bite as well. The patty on it’s own was quite flavorful. He choose rice(2 scoops) and Marconi salad to accompany his meal. Keneke’s also offers bottled beverages, coffee, burgers, sandwiches, fountain drinks, and frozen desserts. Service: No one was there at the register at first but once my son taped the bell a woman appeared with a huge smile on her face. She gladly answered a few questions and even brought our meal to us. She also checked on us a few bites into our meal. Overall, we enjoyed the food and experience here. We plan to return the next time we return to Bellows beach.

If you can’t get anywhere else and you’re starving and need something, anything, in your stomach and you happen to be at the Bellows AFB Beach, then this is the place! By the way, management really needs to train the staff to empty waste cans, fill ketchup bottles, and do basic snack bar upkeep. This snack bar is only for people that have a government ID card and can get to the military side of Bellows Beach.
