After messing up my knee, I was referred to Dr. Egami. After years of world-​class medical care at Northwestern University Hospitals in Chicago, I was concerned about going to a local orthopedic surgeon on Maui, based in great part on all the stories of bad experiences locals shared with me.
This guy is great. Most of his patients seemed to be Hawaiians, and the wait was as long as some of the negative Unilocal reviewers whined about. Reason: He takes whatever time is needed with each patient. No factory production line here. When he finally got to me, it was a thorough exam, with lots of questions on both sides, all answered. He explained what the problem was, why I absolutely did not need surgery (later confirmed by a Northwestern doctor back in Chicago), and what I needed to do to make my knee last 5 – 6 years before needing an artificial one.
I saw him a second time a month later, and am totally satisfied.
Take note, he didn’t drop all his appointments to see me. My appointment was about ten days after the MRI and two weeks after the accident. I can see how short-​term visitors would not like that, although it’s no different than getting an appointment in Chicago.
