Island Lava Java Bake & Brew Bistro

2.5 stars. Outdoor eating area is FILTHY from birds. Tables and chairs are clean but everywhere else (table bases and patio that you are sitting on is one big MESS of bird shoot! It’s disgusting to look at and have to put your shoes on it. Hello… get a pressure sprayer out now and again.
My chicken sandwich was very, very tasty but mostly bun. The chicken was pounded very flat and still only covered half the bun. My husband’s grass fed island beef hamburger was also yummy but cooked rare vs med rare. No biggie. The sweet potato fries are terrific!
The service was very attentive but not over done.
It’s BYBO which is a plus so maybe I would go back and try their pizza but I would sit inside for sure.

I stopped by because I had to try the lillikoi bar! I also got a hot tea, all to go.
5 stars — The lillikoi bar made it worth my drive to get here! It was so good. A little sweet and tart, just the way it should be! The passion fruit taste really stands out here and I will miss this when I return home to the mainland. Since I got it to go, I put it in the fridge a little before eating it. I like it chilled!
1 star — So for the tea, it was an odd experience when I think about the service I had to go along with my tea. When the cashier handed the tea to me, she was so kind to warn me that it was very hot and to be careful drinking it. So I asked for a couple pieces of ice to cool it down so I wouldn’t have to wait awhile to drink it. She used a scoop to get my ice, but then she uses her hands to grab the ice from the scoop. She was about to drop the ice into my tea, when she caught herself, then tossed out the ice from her hands. She went back and got new ice for me. But she did use the same scoop that here hands were on. It grossed me out in that moment. It was so surprising to see that carelessness right in front of the customers. Not sure about the food safety here.

Went on a Friday a 9:30. Place wasn’t crowded.
Food was served cold and I got food poisoning.
I typically understand some flaws in the food when a restaurant is exceptionally busy but really it’s not hard to hear up scrambled eggs when you’re not busy at all.
Don’t try it! You don’t want food poisoning if your on vacation!

Great breakfast spot not too far from the Waikoloa resort area and way better than anything you’d find at the hotels.
Went with the Luau wrap and it was amazing, wife ordered the Island waffle and it was just as delicious.

Island style waffles with bananas and macadamia nuts, topped with coconut syrup is a must!
