My husband is addicted to Hastings. He could literally spend hours in this store looking through the movies, CDs and other various items. When we drove through Waco on our way home to Dallas, we had to make sure to stop. I asked him why he likes Hastings so much, because we have a half price books just down the street from us in Dallas. He said that he loves how Hastings always has some sort of deal going on with their movies and CDs, like a buy 2 get one for a $ 1. Anyways, we stopped here the other day for about an hour. We found a handful of items that totaled less than $ 20. Three movies and one cd. Not bad. Not bad. So why the three stars? The women’s bathrooms were gross. So gross. Like they hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. Come on people. Clean your bathrooms and your store. Take pride in your business.

I love this store!!! They have a great store with a different variety of movies, books, cd’s, games for all xbox’s and playstation’s etc. The prices are pretty decent too. Also they rent movies and have new and used games!!!

I called to ask about a game that I kicked myself for not getting while at another Hastings and was told they never heard of it, didn’t have it and that I could order online if it happened to be on their website. I didn’t believe they even cared to look for it so I ordered online(Amazon) and went by the store to look for it myself. Sure enough it was with all the other board games.

Does anyone actually work here??? Every time I go into this Hastings I usually need help finding a book or an album. I usually end up leaving because I can never find a customer service representative. The prices are high and service is very poor.

Large selection of books and music and movies, but good luck finding staff who will help you. The store is often chaotic and messy, with huge racks of things waiting to be reshelved or restocked, and even if the computer says something is in stock, chances are they’ll have no idea where to actually find a copy. The store is often understaffed, with only one or two cashier lanes open. The store offers ‘buy backs’ where they give you store credit for your movies, books, CDs or games but it REALLY depends on who is your cashier. The customer service desk used to handle these transactions, which kept it running smoothly because those people were trained to do it. Now the customer service desk does not have a cash register, so you have to wait in an actual lane to do a buy back. This is STUPID because if you are trying to buy one CD, sometimes you have to wait for ten or twenty minutes while somebody unloads giant bags of merchandise they’re trying to trade in. The buy back policy is extremely flawed anyway; some cashiers are more lenient than others, so you might get offered $ 50 in credit by one person and $ 20 by another on the exact same items. They only take hardback or oversized paperback books and the books have to be pretty much pristine condition for them to take them. Even then, I bought a $ 30 hardback book, read it in four days, took it back in mint condition to trade back in and they offered me $ 4 for it. Not exactly a fair shake if you ask me. Prices are consistently high, things are MUCH cheaper on Amazon. Boxed sets of TV shows run about $ 50 — $ 60 apiece and the more desirable ones they put in glass cases to avoid shoplifting, which is fine except when you want to grab something quickly and check out, you have to hunt down one of those super-rare staff members and get them to find someone with keys, unlock the case, get your item, and walk it to the front desk for you because they don’t trust you to carry it yourself. My worst experience there came when I wanted to buy a poster. They have several large, interesting movie posters mounted on cardboard and wrapped in cellophane, piled carelessly into one huge bin in the back of the store. None of the posters have price tags, and many of them are severely damaged from people looking through them or being shoved back into place. I found an old«The Lost Boys» poster with a huge rip along the bottom, but figured I could fix it with tape if it was cheap enough. I took it to the register to see if I could get a price check on it— $ 15 and they would not discount it despite the intense damage. The manager got very rude with me when I asked why the item wouldn’t be considered damaged merchandise and marked to clearance. I come here because it really does have the best selection in Waco, and occasionally they do great sales like Buy 2 Used DVDs, Get One for $ 1 or something similar, but overall I wish there was a better place with better employees and more professional customer service. It gets tiring having to hunt down a rude or clueless person to get them to help me do even the simplest task.

I’ve got a friend that raves about Hastings. I sneer at him because he doesn’t realize Half Price Books is sooo much better. I like Hastings from a browsing standpoint, but I’m overall unimpressed with their prices and stuff. Used books are mixed in with used books, and the used books aren’t even priced that great. They also don’t really have a clearance section. They do have lotsss more other stuff like junk you’d find in Hot Topic or Spencer’s, CDs, DVDs, board games, shirts, nerd stuff like statues, action figure things, manga, animé, etc. I’ll go over there if I’m bored, but it’s not a place could go to a lot and stay interested: D

Cool place to go if you want an assortment of used and new books, cds, games, movies, random tshirts and novelties, you name it. We used to browse through here a lot just to kill time, and we usually found something we just had to buy.
