This nursery is a rare treasure in San Diego County. It is one of the few places you can see full size plants and trees that have been in the ground for many years so you’ll know how large that little 5 gallon tree could get in 15+years. Any good nursery in the area, if they don’t have what you are looking for, will likely send you here. It is a small operation so you may find the level of service you’ll find at a retail nursery chain. What you will find is the unique and the unusual. You will also find people who are knowledgeable and passionate about the plants they carry. I’ve bought a mango, Pakistani Mulberry, and several Kiffir lime trees from them. Those are plants you won’t find in most nurseries.

I will never look for trees from a big chain nursery again when we have this available to us!!! Went looking for a fruit tree and got an education! …came home with 5 new exciting trees I never knew existed. Mutsu Apple, Pakistan mulberry, sugar cane jujube, pineapple guava, and ice cream bean. This place is so relaxing and beautiful to walk around. Paul loves his trees and can tell you everything you need to know about any tree on the property. Found a treasure today… and will definitely be back.

Best place to find exotic fruit trees, they have varieties of fruit that no other nursery has, including guava, longan, lychee, etc. All the plants I’ve ever purchased have been healthy. Price is ok, and sometimes you can negotiate, if you buy more plants.

Great selection, feels like a rare fruit jungle. Interesting staff, reminds me of garden hippies, it’s just hard to find things because nothing is labeled properly. But still a great place to go!

Love this place. Have sooooo many types of trees. Prices are great. Got a black sugar cane tree for 40 $. One of the only places in SoCal with these rare trees. They have a tasting table with many fruits. One of the owners took us in a tour and let us pick and sample most of the fruit trees. Great services it is a must to go.

I’ve been looking for a tree to train as a new bonsai so I stopped here to see what they had. I’ve lived in the area for a good 15 years now and I must have passed their sign a thousand times — I’m really sorry that I haven’t thought to stop before now. This nursery is unique in San Diego. It is an eclectic sampling of amazing trees /plants from around the world. Laid back with open arms to welcome all who stop by, the pathways draw you in and wind you around the grounds through forests of ice-cream bean, Jak-fruit, Jelly palm, Mulberries, and dozens of others. My favorite find was the Silk-floss tree from South America with its pink and white pods swaying in the breeze along the top branches with streams of silky white hairs hanging down from it. The flowers on it were simply amazing and I can honestly say that I’ve never seen anything like it. Complimenting the trees were the staff who were very helpful and showed me around the grounds discussing the pros /cons of each tree they thought might make a good bonsai. The clincher for me was the tasting table near the office. Loaded with fruit samples from the various trees they sell, it was like taking a tour through wild lost places left in the world. Overall, Exotica reminded me of the markets that I’ve visited on my travels outside the U.S. It wasn’t like shopping at one of the giant warehouse stores where their only goal seems to be pushing costumers through as quickly as possible. Shopping here was fun and a great learning experience.

This is the quirkiest rare fruit nursery around. Kinda messy but great for finding unusual varieties and flavors. The greenhouses are awesome for scoring smaller plants, and the selection is mind blowing. It’s also awesome that they have a tasting table. I really wish I could spend a lot more time here. Keep an eye out for the ice cream beans!

Bought 3 fruit trees here. So far, they have survived transplantation even though I could take better care if them. Great selection. Very interesting set up. Worth a visit if you are interested in fruiting trees.

This is a gem of a nursery that is internationally renowned. Rare fruits, tropicals and subtropicals, all thrive in this jungle of a space. If you are looking for unusual fruits adapted to SD micro climates, this place should definitely be on your map. .

I visited this great nursery a week ago, and i was awed at the amount of tropical tree’s this place has. I bought a few tree’s at a great price. They were even nice enough to wait for me, to come down before closing time .This place made my trip to so cal ten times better. The worker are very helpful, and kind. Now i just hope my tree’s survive the bay area’s crazy weather.

Very helpful with information. The fruit tasting table is a great plus. They have a variety of different plants that are hard to find in California. The prices are reasonable and good quality. I been waiting to go to the place for a while and it was easy to spend a long time walking around. I can not wait to watch my plants grow.

Went today during the strange summer rain and it was like being in a tropical rain forest of eating delights. Good friendly people run it and are very helpful. Tasted a lychee for the first time, now I want to grow a tree! Good prices for such hard to find fruiting trees. It’s definitely a jem

What a beautiful property! The owner was so friendly and Leo who helped with my order was very helpful! I was out here for a small vacation from Vegas and had to take some tropicals back for my garden in Vegas. I bought a couple banana trees, papaya trees, a dragon fruit and a few guavas. It’s crazy all the nice plants he has growing in So Cal that I am familiar with from tropical Thailand and Mexico. He even let us try some of the fruit he grew:)

I feel lucky to live near this place!!! This is one of the most amazing nurseries I have ever visited. When trees didn’t sell they were planted on the grounds so you have an astounding variety of fruit trees to sample from. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about all the trees. I have never bought a thing that didn’t thrive once I put it in the ground. My mulberry tree thrills me every time I eat the fruit. I bought something for a dollar that looked like it was begging me to take it home so it could die in my yard that grew into a huge and healthy plant. I am now in the market for a Meyer lemon tree and a pomegranate tree so of course I will come to Exotica, probably tomorrow. Even if you aren’t in the market for anything it is worth the trip!!!

Gardening isn’t really my thing but I wanted something different for my yard so, based on the recommendation of a coworker, I went here, despite the slightly odd name. It has a great selection of exotic plants and now I have fruit that visitors from out of state have never heard of. My favorite is a yellow strawberry guava(I know, not that exotic) that is absolutely delicious.
