History

Established in 1996.

Kathy Axelrod, the original owner of Simply Selma’s, opened the store named for her ‘Mum’ in 1996. She wanted to create a happy, fun space filled with beautiful things. She succeeded and Simply Selma’s quickly became a go-​to spot for those in need of a special gift. Her eye for buying amazing items to fill the store coupled with the unique, complimentary gift wrap that she designed made Simply Selma’s an unparallelled shopping experience.

In 2011 Kathy decided to retire and hand the reins of ownership to 3 of her long-​time employees Marianne Winesett, April Stutz & Meg Leeman who continue to run the store with the same focus on customer service, filling the store with beautiful and unique things and above all… keeping the space HAPPY!

Each of these ladies have a long history at Simply Selma’s and have had the privilege to work with Kathy Axelrod, the original owner, for many years. Meg Leeman has been at Simply Selma’s almost since the beginning, working as one of the first managers of the store 16 years ago. Marianne joined the team 12 years ago. With a background in jewelry and a distinct eye for visual merchandising, she quickly became a buyer for the store. April, after years working with Pottery Barn, wanted to leave corporate retail and come work at one of her favorite stores in the area. She joined the Simply Selma’s family in 2007 and became a manager and buyer. With all this experience and commitment to the store, it was no surprise that Kathy asked Marainne, April and Meg to take over as owners of Simply Selma’s. Since 2011 the three, along with an amazing team of creative and kind women, have continued to work hard making Simply Selma’s the «go to» place for gifts
