Ambiance is very nice. The waitresses were nice and professional and the restaurant was very clean. The quality and presentation of our food was excellent. However… the price for the quantity is pretty hi, in my opinion. I most likely will not be visiting this establishment again as there are plenty of other Japanese restaurants in the area that offer more bang for your buck.

Not that much better than par and stupidly overpriced. This thought has two caveats: –I prefer sashimi vice rolls(this is what I base the price comment on) –The area of reference is mostly the Oceanfront area towards Great Neck; doesn’t include downtown Norfolk or Chic’s area The two other places I usually go are Blue Fin and Soya. Blue fin loses points because the atmosphere sorta sucks… it’s just sorta crummy inside. Soya can get overrun with tourists during the season. Here’s a quick price comparison. Make up your own mind. I chose pretty benign, basic, common items(i.e. not the super happy crab monkey roll or whatever). Yellowtail $ 6.95 vs $ 4.95 Tuna $ 5.50 vs $ 3.25 Salmon $ 4.95 vs $ 3.25 California Roll $ 4.95 vs $ 6.50 Philly Roll $ 6.95 vs $ 7.95 Doesn’t seem like it’s that much of a difference, huh? Welp, keep in mind the first price is at Soya for THREE pieces of sashimi while the second number is ONE piece of sashimi at Mizuno. So it’s easily 50% more expensive sashimi wise and something like 20% for rolls. So unless my girlfriend starts making a ton of money and becomes my sugar momma, I think I’ll stick to um not here.

Okay, best sushi in Hampton Roads. This place is heaven to me. It is where I go for a special occasion or a nice night out. Always the freshest fish. Prices are higher than other sushi restaurants, so is a treat, but definitely worth it. Lovely ambience, great service and a wine and saki list to die for. *You can always tell a great meal by how you feel afterwards*. I always feel wonderful after a meal here and am always looking forward to my next visit.

This was our first time coming here and it was up to our expectations! The server was super friendly and had a lot of recommendations. We had a great conversation with the owners. The food was delicious. Definitely recommend the N.Y.P.D. roll. We can’t wait to come back again!

By far the best sushi around. Fresh ingredients really set Mizuno apart from the rest. Not only is the food delicious but the drinks are fantastic as well.

I have only dined here once but once was enough! You walk in and the dim lighting and décor creating a nice ambiance. This place encompasses simple elegance. Good for date night or out with friends. The menu has a really good selection. The food was delicious and FRESH! The food came out in a pretty decent time for the number of rolls we ordered. The cocktails were really good too. I will definitely be returning!

We went to Mizuno while we were visiting Family in VA. They had been to this place before and loved it and took us there. Thank to them we had one of the best lychee drinks ever and mango mojito and not to mention the food. we started of with appetizers. scallops on bed of guacamole on top of fried rice cakes. This was really good. i dont eat seafood and never had scallops but when i ate this i loved it. next up were the crab cakes made same way but instead of guacamole there was a piece of lettuce in between and like an aioli on top. Again never had crab cakes before but this small bites were awesome. We also got some spicy edamame which were fantastic. for dinner we ordered couple different veggie sushi rolls adn one of them was the atkins sushi roll which was meh for us but could be good for health freaks. the next veggie roll was made with soy paper rather than rice and toped with a piece of fried tofu and edamame. this was really delicious. we did get some raw fish shushi/shashimi type rolls which i did not have since i dont like seafood. I got chicken teriyaki and it was one of the best chicken ever. nice and tender cooked to perfection. We also ordered chicken noodles japanese style which were pretty good. Overall place is really good BUTBECAREFULITWILLSETYOUBACKSOMESERIOUSDOUGH. it is a celebratory night dinner place unless you can afford to take another mortgage out on your house ;-) .and hence only 4 stars instead of 5 since this kind of food should be enjoyed any day of the year but unfortunately cant. You must try it.

For better of worse, Wataro-san takes it easy and works on his golf handicap, while the charming Beverly puts in the long hours. Some prices are incredible: $ 25 for the mizuno crudo(mostly sliced cucumber with a few small pieces of fish and a fancy chilean olive oil). Give me break! $ 8 for two moshi ice cream balls! Plus jalapeño’s everywhere! By the end your burning mouth feels like you’ve been eating in a spicy Mexican restaurant. Miss the good-old original Mizuno days…

Pros: The food was fresh and service was prompt. My friend enjoyed her sashimi. The modern and clean décor was pleasant. It was easy and free to park. The parking lot was free of debris. Cons: The Chirashi’s size portion was the smallest I had in my life. It was about half of a normal size portion for $ 17(lunch menu). There was only salmon and omelet, instead of a diversity of cuts of fish.

The Metal Gear steak tartar sushi roll is positively amazing! The wine list is acceptable(we enjoyed the Educated Guess Cabernet) and wine is served in a pretty wealthy sized glass. We enjoyed sitting at the sushi bar as it was the best lit area in the dinner. This is definitely a place to recommend to friends but be certain to have a reservation if you have a large dining group.

The most amazing sushi ever! I won’t go anywhere else in Hampton Roads! Always gorgeous presentation! Perfection of fresh fish! Unique twist on Walter’s rolls! Order the new style sashimi 003! You won’t be disappointed with any choice! The best crème brûlée ever! I live to go to Mizunos!

Bang. On. This is the best sushi I’ve had in an 80 mile radius. The prices are high, but the fish is spot on. The preparations include some pretty traditional dishes, and some dishes that I hope will eventually be traditions. I’ve eaten here repeatedly, and never had so much as a bum grain of rice.

Pretty mediocre sushi at a higher than average price point. My group ordered nearly every roll, with only the tempura roll and Mizuno roll standing out as good. The other rolls were really pretty bland. Yakisoba, gyoza, and miso soup are all standard fare– nothing special. Service is really top notch, and the preparation is excellent, but I thought the overall quality was pretty typical for a sushi restaurant in the South.

Mizuno is the best sushi restaurant in Hampton Roads. Bam. When a few Unilocalers made this statement to me they were unable to tell me why this was the case. Allow me to do so: 1. Freshest fish. Anyone who is a regular sushi goer can taste the difference in fresh sushi and fish that’s a couple days old. Every item we had here tasted like it was caught moments before consumption. We got the tuna poke taco appetizer and was blown away by the light flavor of the fish combined with all the different flavor profiles of the spice and lime. 2. Most creative rolls. I’m talking OYSTER rolls, crispy rice(think tator tot sushi), filet mignon rolls, beef slices, and combined with some of the most random but well thought out combinations of items I’ve ever had. Anotherwards, this isn’t a place you would order a standard salmon roll. As examples, a couple of the rolls we ordered were the Oyster & Pearl(fried oyster, lump crab, asparagus, and scallion rolled with soy paper) and the S.P.E.A.R. roll(lump crab and avacado rolled in soy paper. Salmon & yellow tail on top. Ceviche sauce with crunchy). Which brings me to my next point: you won’t need soy sauce to eat any of their sushi. It’s THAT delicious. 3. Innovative cocktails and great wine list. In addition to having an impressive sake and selective wine list, their cocktails are the real standout here. I ordered the kiwi cocktail and my friend ordered the mojito but they also have other fun options like the white lilly(with vanilla yogurt & sake!) and of course, a lychee-tini. I want to come back just to tick through their cocktail list. 4. Chic ambiance. From the moment you walk in you notice this is no standard sushi joint. From the open kitchen allowing you to view the sushi chefs to the glowing white 180 degree bar, you realize you are in a FANCY place. In fact, it reminds me of my trips to NOBU in NYC. Sushi Chic! 5. On point service. It’s weird that with all these winning features it’s located in a strip mall(albeit a nicer strip mall). I always get lost and confused in all the different Hilltop shopping centers so when I called to verify the location, the hostess was very helpful in getting us there. And when we sat down, she asked if we found the place okay. I just thought that was a friendly touch. And everyone we encountered had that same friendly and helpful demeanor. Our glasses were never empty and our plates stayed cleared. Overall, this place has amazing energy from the time we walked in to the time we left. Everything was perfect. Ever since Sushi Aka closed down, I’ve been looking to put another sushi spot on my Top Hampton Roads Restaurants list and Mizuno will be filling that void. Can’t wait to return!
