I’ve been a longtime patron of Misako, and it’s only fitting I leave them a review. For the longest time i wouldn’t eat out alone — I never felt right about it. But one night I had no groceries and I was beat from playing ball for a good two hours. I was driving down Virginia Beach Blvd when I spotted Misako. I thought to myself, «Well, they hopefully have a sushi bar. Then I won’t have to sit alone at a table.» I stopped in, was seated at the bar, given great service and food and the rest is history(I’ve obviously have dined alone plenty of times since then, haha). Back then Misako didn’t do buffet during dinner service — just lunch. But with sushi buffets becoming all the rage they changed their business model a bit, and they now run it whenever they’re open. There’s not an abundant selection because their buffet area is fairly small, but the food they put out is delicious. So quality trumps quantity. There are two small buffet sections — one is for sushi, the other is for hot food. The hot food side offers soba, volcano rolls, wings, fried rice, edamame and other items that work for a buffet. The sushi side usually comes with some raw fish(salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and white tuna, sometimes mackerel), tiger eye, California, spicy tuna, seaweed salad, shrimp tempura, and the like. For some, it’s limited, but to me it’s all good. Their fish is fresh and tasty and they have plenty of it. So win-win. Service here is fantastic, which many would think isn’t saying much since it is buffet. But since I dine here so much they take good care of me. Misako has a lot of regulars, so if you frequent this establishment they will forever remember and take care of you. Misako, for me, is like home. I’m always welcome and I have no hesitation about dining there at a moment’s notice. In fact, it’s getting close to dinner… I’m going to head there now! Thanks, Misako, for being so awesome. JV

I try to go about once a week. Love the food. Buffet is great! I can even bring my mom who doesn’t eat much sushi but loves the curry. Great service too!

This place is ok, but I can’t say that this place blew my mind. It’s a small sushi and asian buffet. The sushi is decent, but the rest of the food is kind of just meh. I only had 2 plates and didn’t feel like getting up for more food which is pretty bad, because I always get like 3+ plates at buffets like yukai. Overall this place is good if you are really hungry and are shopping in this shopping center, but I don’t think I will be going here too often

Not great. Not very much variety, small Buffett. Only $ 12 for lunch but not worth the trip for me. Not coming back.

What a disappointment. I was really craving sushi tonight but this restaurant nipped it in the bud for me. Ginger salad dressing was gritty, soup smelled and tasted of fishy pond water and obnoxious barely legal patrons downing saki and yelling obscenities were not asked by management to conform to decent expectations — it was up to customers. I usually go to my regular sushi place but branched off because of a recommendation. I would not go back for any reason. Wasted $ 50 of my hard earned money to learn this lesson.

Great price for a all you can eat buffet, the spicy volcano roll and the fried bananas are a total hit

Sushi buffets are hit or miss and this one was a hit! Friendly staff with great service. They make small amounts of sushi and replace it as it runs out so it’s not sitting out all day. Fewer hot options than at other Asian buffets but all items were done well and in small batches to replace frequently. Plus, they had all our favorites: gyoza, veg tempura, spring rolls, chicken katsu, yakisoba, kalbi, and more yumminess. 10% military discount. dinner buffer starts at 5:30, not 4:30 when they reopen.

Pleasantly surprised. Large selection in sushi on the buffet. The warmers had a few key items that were good but not a huge selection. They do have a menu to order from but we didn’t. My wife is allergic to fish and they accommodated her on the buffet and sushi bar. I would go there again. The bill on a family of 4(2 adults, 2 kids under 9) was $ 51 before tip.

Excellent place! Their lunch buffet was wonderful — lots of choices, including many types of sushi — for $ 10. Definitely one my favorites!

Came here with a hungry rating of about 6.5. Figured might as well try some AYCE sushi since I just hit the gym at One Life Fitness right down the road. If you’re looking for a good gym check them out, Will is the general manager and he is awesome! Anyway, back to the sushi, I’m giving this place a high 2 low 3. The reason why it wasn’t any lower is because the sushi is AYCE, and they have a selection of hot menu items also. What I didn’t like is that because it is AYCE, the quality is somewhat mediocre. The slices of fish in most of the sushi was a little thin, but for AYCE, it lowers the cost and is to be expected. Overall, the sushi is ok-good, but if you want some good sushi you can find it somewhere is, but if you’re looking for quantity sushi for a great price, you’ve found your place!

It may be small but it’s fresh and delicious. I’ve been here half a dozen times and I will always come back when I’m in town!

Xerxes — 1. Misako — 0. I always win when it comes to buffets. This one is decent in my book. Sure, it’s AYCE but in my opinion is just okay compared to a lot of the other Japanese spots in the area. Their sushi selection, at least during lunch, looks a bit limited to me. Since their buffet area isn’t big they don’t have a ton of sushi options to choose from. You get your salmon and tuna pieces, which I like. The bad Asian that I am there’s another fish piece that looks like white tuna… But what do I know? I still ate it and it was decent. Not the thickest pieces though. This one does offer a hot foods selection: tempura, chicken wings, green beans, various Japanese cooked dishes that are similar to what you get a Chinese buffet. The best thing you’ll find is what you should save for last, fried banana pieces. This, my Unilocal friends, is legit so be sure to save room for two, three, maybe even four bites. If you’re tight on time this is a good spot to check out during lunch. If you have all the time in the world you may want to consider the other buffets where you can specify pieces and rolls put together for you.

Overall service was good however tried the special(shared) beef ramen and it taste like sweet refrigerated Ramen Noodles with frost bitten beef. The waitress stated that it was no refund and convinced us to share, I am however thankful for that. So… No more specials for us The sushi was good and prepared pretty quick! Restaurant was clean and inviting.

Inexpensive lunch buffet. sushi is freshly prepared with around twelve type to choose from. the hot food buffet is small and limited butt suitable for a lunch of lighter fare.

Best sushi buffet in Virginia Beach! The hot bar buffet items are mediocre which is why the 4 star rating but if you like good fresh bargain sushi this is a great place. They are very attentive about assuring the sushi is fresh and available in the right quantity based on the number of current patrons. Highly recommend for the sushi and the price.

One word, DELICIOUS! Was seated as soon as we walked in so no waits. Décor of the place could use some updating and the only alcoholic drinks are beer and wine. But who needs it when their sweet tea is awesome. Food was as I said earlier, DELICIOUS! Everything on the buffet line was yummers to include the sushi. Ask for salad and soup because they are part of the buffet although they are not located on the line. Veggies are cooked well not soggy nor under cooked. We were waited on by Rose who is extremely professional and friendly, she made sure our drinks were always full and kept our table clear for more plates that we kept going back for. The owners came and greeted us and come to find out the husband is one of the sushi chefs. Overall a great experience and I will be visiting again on my next trip to VA Beach.

Came here after a vote for a lunch meet-up, mostly for the lunch buffet. I have to say it was not as splendid as the idea of a sushi buffet seemed. There was not a very creative or markedly delicious selection on the sushi side of the buffet. I also feel that perhaps they should have that section cooled, because my sushi was uncomfortably warm at times. The steam table with cooked food & the volcano rolls was decent as well, though I only resorted to it after realizing I would not be satisfied by the sushi selection alone. I am thinking of returning here and looking at their real menu, because I really wanted to like it.

Neat, clean, inexpensive, courteous and fairly tasty. Dinner buffet was $ 13.99 and both the hot and sushi lines were kept reasonably supplied without being overstocked where the food(especially the rice) could dry out. Nice variety of sushi rolls(halibut was very nice). Fried chicken wings and chicken katsu(with sauce) were very tasty. Wasn’t a great fan of the chicken teriyaki. Green beans were just about perfect(al dente and not wilted). Service was polite and prompt: our table was kept clean of used dishes and beverages refilled. Buffets are dangerous to the waistline but I’m sure that I will visit again when in the plaza shopping. 1 thumb up!
