My fam, a bunch of yankee’s who are unaccustomed to Southern cuisine(I lived in the South for a bit, but by-no means am I an expert), decided to try out the menu. We came back 3 more times in the week. We were impressed by breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This is not you«Sunday’s best» attire. This is a mom and pop diner, and the service was polite and timely.

Down home local eatery! Forget the tourist strip! This is where the locals come for some good food, at good prices, seated with good people! Drinks? They got them! Alcohol? They throw it in there! Awesome? You betcha! I will be back!

We stopped here after the Straberry Festival. We were stuck in traffic and hungry. We thought that the service was great and our waitress was very friendly! I tried the she crab soup and it was okay, to me a little underseasoned. Then the crab balls and Seafood sampler. I also tried the softshell crab dinner. Everything was good I just found that the fried food was very greasy. When you bite into the crab or scallops you get lots of oil with it too. Other than that, my hubby got the blackened scallops and got 15 of them and it looked amazing! I had broccoli and coleslaw as a side, both were good. They also serve hollandaise sauce for the broccoli which I thought was a nice touch. But again the sauce was underseasoned. It tasted more like a veloutè sauce than hollandaise. If I went back, I wouldn’t have the fried food. Also our Blue Moons were super cold which was great because it was sooo hot outside!

Looks like a shack outside, but don’t let the outside defeat you. The Seafood platter is pure AMAZING, more than enough to share b/w two ppl. Deep fried Crab cake is not bad and the she crab soup is average.

Margie & Ray’s is a staple in Sandbridge and VA Beach! What a delicious seafood restaurant… just what you’re looking for when you’re at the beach! I am partial to the fried flounder, slaw, and hushpuppies, but my husband will tell you they have amazing crab legs! I was surprised that popcorn shrimp isn’t on the menu, but just about everything else from the sea is! Delicious, great service, comfy atmosphere, and worth the price! :)

We stopped into this place on a whim for lunch as it looked like one of those places that looks awful but turns out to be amazing. My 14 yr old daughter’s first impression, «looks like a classy place… for roaches.» The outside appearance DID actually reflect on the inside as well. While we did not see any roaches, or any other critters, it was cold and lacking in the cleanliness department. Tables are folding tables covered in what appeared to be butcher’s paper. Our server was extremely pleasant and very patient with the younger kids of our group. She also made plenty of suggestions. 2 ordered shrimp scampi, 2 chicken fingers and fries, 1 crabs, 1 hurricane, 1 sampler with a side of hush puppies(me). The overall opinion was that the food was very bland and over cooked. The shrimp in the shrimp scampi was on the rubbery side and the scampi sauce was more like an oil sauce. All of the fried food tasted like it was on either the second fry or had been done in very old oil. The chicken fingers and fries were slightly above room temperature and quite soggy. The crabs were ok but nothing special. Seemed as though there was no seasoning used on or in anything. Even the hush puppies which I expected to have some kind of pizzazz fell flat, just over-fried corn bread. I had really hoped we’d found a gem with this place but felt let down. It wasn’t a horrible experience but I probably wouldn’t recommend it. 2 stars because our server really was great and I wish I remembered her name.

Went here on a recommendation and it was bad. We ordered the Hurricane Maggie for two. I’m guessing they have a trough of the fried fixings sitting in buffet trays and just pile the food on when ordered rather than cook to order. Why do I guess that? Well it took about 3 minutes for it to come out, it was Luke warm, the batter was soft and pretty much all the food was overcooked. I literally could’ve played golf with the scallops they were so rubbery. They get two stars for ice-cold $ 3.25 Rolling Rock.

I’ve wanted to try this place for over a year now. Finally had a chance to go. We went for lunch on Thursday. The atmosphere is cute and it doesn’t have that oily, fishy spell some fish houses tend to have. We tried the award winning she crab soup but I found it to be too gelatinous and lacking a little flavor. My grandfather ordered steamed muscles which were fine and I had the crab cake. Again, nothing wrong with the crab cake, little filler which is a plus but the flavor was a bit bland. I enjoyed the ride to and from but I’m not sure I would make the trip out again.

TOURISTTRAP. It’s been a few months since I’ve dined here but the experience sticks out in my mind as one of the worst trips to a restaurant that I’ve ever experienced. As I recall, the food, wait staff, ambiance and overall cleanliness of the restaurant was all very well below average. Such a shame because they are the only restaurant around and can really capitalize on their location but I guess that’s what tourists traps are all about. Right? The one thing that stick out the most about my experience is the WELLWATER I received as my drink because their water system was messed up. I could not believe that a restaurant would serve that and when I asked my waitress about it she answered that the water filtration system was down and as if it wasn’t a problem or as if this thing happens at the restaurant quite frequently. Now I understand that water is a free drink at most restaurants but it’s not my fault your machines are broken. It’s you as a restaurant owner to fix the problem to provide your guests with an experience that leaves them happy and wanting to return or tell others to visit your establishment. Waitress had every excuse in the book for why the whole experience was awful. Instead of making the situation right she just seemed to believe that that’s how restaurants are supposed to run. It’s one thing to visit an area and be dissatisfied but when you are a local and there are plenty of great restaurants around and this one ruins the reputations of the others it’s offensive to me and doesn’t make me a proud resident of Virginia beach.

Came in for a late breakfast and we ordered the Country Fried Steak and the BLT. The service was prompt and courteous. Food tasted very good and the place was clean. Looks like a great HH spot — so we’ll have to come back for a beer.

This is a solid seafood shack. I had the fried fish platter and was not disappointed. The fish is absolutely fresh and came skin on. The oysters were smokey and delicious. The scallops were cooked to perfection as was the shrimp. Their hush puppies are some of the best I have had and the service was great. Watch out Cali, this is probably the best I’ve had.

This is my standard place to go when I am in Sandbridge. First off, the place is a favorite with locals and tourists alike. It is filled with things to look at, tons of people and GREAT seafood and drinks. This time around I had the she-crab soup(it was chock full of chunks of lump crabmeat) and the fried seafood combo, which was perfect. Not overly cooked and not greasy. Be careful — usually there is a wait. But the front porch is fun to hang out on, and it goes fast. And is worth it.

We tried Margie & Rays our first day in Virginia Beach and came recommended by some locals. We started with a bowl of she-crab bisque which was excellent. Very rich and creamy with lots of crab. Then tried an appetizer of onion rings which were good but greasy. Finally we had a pound of crab legs which were also very good. Finished it off with a slice of peanut butter pie which was a real winner. We had a couple of lemon drop martinis which were great!

Last day of Labor Day weekend vacation we stopped in to this mom and pop place. My friend had been before and said it was decent. They had been for dinner and breakfast. Saw the menu for breakfast and it looks decent. We ordered for the table a lump crab appetizer and wasabi crab balls. Both were decent. Wasabi crab balls were definitely warm with spice. I ordered a cup of She Crab soup. It was good. I’ve had a few variations of she crab soup and this was more along the lines of a New England style clam chowder being a bit thicker and light on the sherry. It was still pretty tasty. Entrée I had to order the blue crabs. Baker’s half dozen for $ 19.99. You could also order one for $ 5. I think this was priced fairly. They were nice sized crabs, steamed and seasoned well. Always fun to work for your dinner. Friends had stuffed flounder, ribeye and pasta special. Everyone was satisfied with their meals. Would I return back here? Definitely. Would love to check out their breakfast as most mom and pop places do this best.

Amazing seafood, especially the SheCrab soup! We had the steamed seafood platter that included crabs, shrimp, oysters clams and mussels. Super filling that we couldn’t even finish it all until lunch the next day. We highly recommend stopping by this restaurant! Thanks!
