House of Video

As Blockbuster video fades into the shadow of Netflix and Internet movie sites, you may wonder how your local video store will survive. I don’t know, but I can tell you that I’m fighting for House of Video.
Yeah, the movies may not be as new as Blockbuster – you may have to wait a few more days until that new release is available. But thanks to its local address and small clientele, chances are you will be able to pick up that new release right away without fighting some mean old lady or a punk kid for it. Whenever there is a new popular movie I want to rent, I skip the big chain stores and go here first and there’s always one in stock. Along with new movies, House of Video has lots of older movies and classics in stock that you definitely can’t find in Blockbuster. I once was doing a project for my French class comparing two versions of the film Diabolique. I searched high and low for the 1990s version with Sharon Stone and Isabel Adjani with no luck. Blockbuster hadn’t had it in stock in years and I surely wasn’t going to buy the movie online. House of Video saved the day – sitting right there on the shelf was this classic remake and I got an A on my project.
Best of all, House of Video fixes broken Cd’s and DVDs. I don’t know the cost of the service, but when you consider that DVDs for popular movies can run upwards of $ 25 (or even up to $ 100 for a box set) the cost will likely be worth it to save your favorite movie or CD from the garbage can.
