The first time I came I waited an hour and left because the wait was another hour or more. The second time I showed up at 11am, when they’re set to open, but no one was there. I waited for a while to no avail. Save yourself some trouble and go somewhere else.

I recommend this place to cut your hair its really cheap and the way they cut your hair is details by details. this is the first time i try this hair saloon place and its really good. for sure i will come back again.

I have nothing against the Young’s…they are just trying to pull on honest hustle in LA. The haphazard and rushed style leaves your hair choppy and completely f&#kd. He missed entire sections. This haircut isn’t worth free.

Mr. Young cuts my hair at the same quality as the barbershops that charge me over $ 40 for a haircut at a fraction of the cost(less than $ 20). I usually go in and chat the whole time about basketball. Pro tip: Weekend afternoons tend to have a lot of people. Try going early or during weekday.

Mr and Mrs Young are a super nice couple who work tirelessly to provide inexpensive haircuts to the community. Price is the big factor here. $ 14 for men and just $ 16 for women(as of Nov. 2015). Cash only. There’s an ATM in the bodega 2 doors down. The shop is no-frills, in need of new paint and new hair model posters. But the barber seats are comfy and they keep their instruments relatively clean. There are a few drawbacks to their budget business model: 1) you never know how long you’ll wait. Usually there’s a long wait if you’re coming at prime times(lunch hour, after work), but I’ve had to leave due to excessive waits at other times as well. 2) don’t expect salon quality. If you have a simple and standard cut, perfect. But they aren’t too familiar with current trends. I’ve also noticed a lot of people prefer to wait for Mr Young even if Mrs Young is available. Just sayin’.

Do NOT believe the reviews. The haircuts here are terrible. I tried the place about a month ago due to high reviews, and had a bad experience with the guy. He sounded rude and disrespectful, the place was a dump and stinking. He wouldn’t give me a reservation, but took a half an hour lunch break while I was waiting. The haircut was also crappy. I decided to give it another shot today, and got more of the same. I waited an hour for my turn, and even after several requests to get the hair right, he left my side burns and back of the neck close to half an inch long. Not sure what issues this guy has with me, maybe he has me confused with somebody else he despises. I still think most of the reviews here are fake, and the people tend to follow others when reviewing and consider the cheap price as a point of advantage. You would be better off investing $ 30 in a trimming kit and do it yourself than go here.

Mr. Young is a total gem! I just came out of my first haircut with him and I am so so pleased. I showed him a couple of pictures of what I wanted. He really took his time trimming and layering my hair. A couple of guys came in during my haircut and Mr. Young did not rush my cut at all. I felt bad to keep the guys waiting but I really appreciated how meticulous he was. He’s fun to talk to, his work is phenomenal, and you don’t have to shovel out $$$ just for a hair cut. I highly recommend! **a few of the reviews talk about the lack of a/c, he has a portable one that he turned on when I sat in the chair

I love getting a great deal, but I almost feel bad like I actually WANT to pay him more. Ok, so maybe not your ideal vision of a salon, but if you give this place less than 5 stars then you probably give the godmother from bay cities the same thing and I don’t trust you. I walked in, yes its small. No it doesn’t have AC. Yes you get a cut with scissors. Yes, you might have to wait but its for a haircut that cost less than a fancy burger at The Counter. Brought in a photo of what I wanted it to look like and the job was well executed. I don’t even want to count how much more money I’d have if I had just started coming here when I moved to LA. Maybe a nice down payment on a home in the hills.

Mr. Young is the best! Knew exactly what to do with my hair to make it feel lighter and healthier — basic cut price($ 20, but I have a LOT of hair so it’s a little over the usual $ 16 for women) for a top notch result. I’ll definitely be coming back! Also, his giggle is adorable.

Been looking for a new barber on the west since I moved out here. The first person to ever get it right after all the discussion with previous barbers!

I love that this place has amazing reviews and they probably don’t even know of it! This place has shady parking in the back next to the Dominos lol. This place attract a lot of interesting characters, and the husband and wife just nod their heads and cut away. $ 14 will get you a great hair cut, small talk about what is good and bad coffee, and how Vietnam has changed since the war. And remember, CASH only!

I love coming here every time I need a trim. I adore Mr. Young and his wife Jenny. They are such sweet people. It is always just them two. Despite the many people that wait for their haircut, they always make sure that they’re taking their time with each client. They are so fun talk to! It is definitely worth the wait. For the price that they charge, make sure you tip extra.

Heres my review: Nice people… but yeah, its not for women to get their hair cut, unless you like the«man» look. I had hair 3″ down my back. I told them I wanted ½″ off all around. The«stylist» cut about 4″ off here and there saying he was going to make my hair«lite and fluffy». He chopped up my hair!, my silver lining in this experience is my hair will grow… but i will not be back. thats what i get for being cheap, its my own fault… its great for men and the man look… cheers!

I love them! The husband and wife run the shop and they are so cute. I got Mr. Young & he spent so much time on my hair perfecting every strand. He really takes the time to perfect the cut and make sure you like it as well. Everything is even and I love it! My hair is so much healthier & cute and all for $ 18! The cheapest in all of LA it might seem. Super nice people. Just remember it is CASHONLY. My only complaint was the wait. I was the only other person in the store and there was an empty seat but I still ended up waiting 10⁄15 minutes while they did some other work. I didn’t understand but otherwise a great experience!

First off, sorry Mr. Young for those countless of times I wasn’t able to go to your salon to get my hair done. I should driven that extra few miles just to get your place because well… it’s soooo worth it! You always greet your customers with a smile. And even though you may take just a tiny bit longer than some to cut my hair, I know it’s because you pay attention to the little details and go that extra mile just to get what people want. That being said, I will go that extra mile for you. A lot of other places simply do not compare. I was recommended this place by my finicky peers a couple of years ago. The first time I came by was on a Summer day and the place was small and packed. It was first come first serve so I just sat down and waited just like everyone else. But again, it was worth the wait. I loved my hair cut. What could have easily cost a lot more ended up being so damn cheap, I ended up giving Mr. Young a big fat tip. Moral of the story, be patient, go that extra mile because he will do the same. You won’t be disappointed!

If you’re a girl who wants to walk out with a boyfriend come here! I came at 6pm on a weekday and literally waited for 5 guys to get their haircut before they worked on mine. It was a husband and wife team and I ended up getting the wife. She spent some quality time on my hair and did a damn god job on it. I got long layers, thinned out and that’s exactly what I got. She kept checking up to see if she was on the right track for what I wanted and gave some suggestions when I wasn’t sure. Overall, great experince and was only $ 20! What a steal! I’ll definitely be coming back, especially since I can practice my messed up broken Chinese with her!

Absolutely fantastic barber — especially for Asian hair. Consistent. Mr. Young has a great memory of clientele too. It’s constantly busy but he takes his time and makes sure each customer gets exactly what they want. Mr. Young and his wife handle hair of all shapes, sizes and genders. They’re one of the hardest working in Venice — open all 7 days a week — best to come in during the week. Parking is easy in the back(shared with Dominos) — sometimes parking on the alley road is necessary but always spots available and safe.
