Cute selection of dog clothes and accessories. They also have unique flavors for treats (i.e., Truffle Mac and Cheese).
Didn’t buy anything for my pup, but my friend bought a harness and a bow tie for his.
Worth checking out.

Was excited to stop by Modern Dog since they had such great reviews, but was very disappointed by the quality of the products and the over the top prices. I ended up purchasing some treats for my dog and he wouldn’t even touch it.
When I went back to try and return the product I was met with a hostile owner. I think his name was Guy Miracle. Total jerk. So I ended up just walking out since I wasn’t in the mood for that type of altercation. I’ll never set foot in that store again… but if you do. Bring a friend. Safety in numbers.

The Modern Dog is my favorite dog boutique to shop. Everyone is always incredibly friendly, helpful and knowledgable and is more than happy to assist you with anything you need. They have a fantastic selection of various products — local and even custom made in many cases. The Modern Dog always has what I’m looking for, my pup and I love visiting!

Whenever my wife and I are on Abbott-​Kinney, we always stop by. We’re Frenchie Owners and so are the owners. They have great tags and collars.

My husband and I came in about a month ago after dinner at Hal’s. The guy and girl that were I think the owners were nicest people ! They have a great selection of nice modern pet things from beds and clothes to treats. We will be back!

Such a cute place! A nice guy named Guy from Long Beach helped us. We bought two dog collars (a Buddha + Ganesh/​Hindu god) kind. Our dogs are very zen looking now, even though they’re still crazy. It’s dog-​friendly and they have these nice eco-​friendly bone mats. We bought one of those too!

Taya helped us and she was super nice! Told us the sales going on, explained the products we were interested in, and even gave our pup a treat. My pup tried on a bunch of sweaters. We bought one. There was a great selection at reasonable prices. The store was nice and organized. We had a very pleasant experience. We will be coming back here for sure :)

I loved my first experience here. So friendly, helpful and even gave me tons of great tips and ideas for my new puppy. The collar I got her was the only one she has not tried to get out of and our first walk was a total success! Next time I come back I will be bringing the puppy too. The store is an explosion of all things dog and so pretty to look at as well as easy to peruse. No its not cheap but thats what amazon and petco are for, but if you want well made (in the USA), harder to find items that you can trust this is a great place to go. Plus they stock one of kind locally made items worth the extra pennies for a pampered pup. I give it 5 ruff ruffs.

LOVE The Modern Dog! We stopped in on Saturday afternoon and never wanted to leave — such great dog products — adorable and creative. Not to mention the most friendly staff in the world! We bought a Slo-​Bowl and it has worked wonders for our dog, who generally eats with the speed of a Dyson vacuum. I wish they would open up here in the Bay Area — I’de be there all the time! Don’t miss it when you’re strolling down Abbot Kinney Blvd.

Even if you don’t have a pet this is a must visit!
I found myself strolling aimlessly down Abbot Kenney on my first day in Venice as i was trying to walk off jet lag. I saw this place and decided to go have a look, as much to get out of the sun as anything.
The shop itself is fantastic; full of unusual and quality items for any pooch, but what really struck me was the really friendly guy who served me. After i had purchased a couple dog chews he found out i had just landed and it was my first visit, so he spent time giving me tips about how to get around (i had no car) and places worth visiting. He also gave me a map when he found out i didn’t have one.
The most awesome part for me was when i tried to tip him after he had spent 15 minutes giving me advice. He graciously refused my tip point blank and then gave me tipping lessons to make sure i would not be taken advantage of.
I was in this store for nearly 30 minutes, all for a $ 20 purchase, and the whole time i was made to feel really welcome.
A definite 5 star experience!

I absolutely love his place, great options in healthy yummy treats. Service is amazing! And they carry awesome little extras for the pups like sweaters, tags etc. I make a point to stop in and get my doggie something from this spot every time I get to Venice. Did I mention the service is amazing!!! the owner is a true dog lover and it’s shows!

A wonderful place! The people who work there, are warm and friendly. They are also helpful, and never pushy. The merchandise is adorable and fun, for both cats and dogs. They are also kind to accept blankets and toys, for an organization called Operation Blankets of Love. This wonderful organization takes toys, blankets, and other needed items to the pound. They bring a little comfort to animals in need. So next time, you are visiting the Modern Dog, and buying something beautiful for your furry baby, bring a blanket, a toy, or any item for the poor animals, that do not have a home.
The items will be picked up at Modern Dog.

Every time we go in here we get the best service. it makes me want to buy things that we do not need.
I purchased a gorgeous harness here, and many toys. Each time I got great non-​pushy service, and they were so sweet to my dog.
I do wish they had a freezer for frozen raw food, but they have a great selection of freeze dried food and treats.

Loved this little swanky doggy boutique. If I had only had Calvin, my Pekingese, with me he would have left outfitted to the hilt. But I am bad with sizes, so I’ll bring him next time!
They had beds, clothes, toys, collars, leashes, food… the list is endless. Fun spot to stop in even if you don’t have a dog. Calvin and I will be back.

Nicest owners & employees! They have such a cute and wide selection of things for pets. Lots of cute toys and clothing if you’re into dressing up your dog. They carry high quality, wholesome treats for dogs including some locally made freeze-​dried snacks. Wish I lived closer cos I would shop here all of the time.

A reviewer below stated in regards to the high prices «it’s on Abbot Kinney so what would one expect?» Well honey, I’ve lived in Venice for a very long time and just because a business is on Abbot Kinney does not give merit for a pet supply store to charge up the ass.
With that said, the service there is SUPERB. Everyone is always very nice, informative, and they all love animals.
Modern dog is for the modern dog, but if you’re not in a rush to buy something for your furry friend, order it online. I’m all for supporting the local economy, but it’s highly overpriced.
Money aside, the selection is pretty good, but they seem to always be out of harnesses for small toy dogs. I do love that they support local artists and have a really cute assortment of well made dog bows.
Overall, its worth a visit and bring your pooch. :)

This place is cute. They have all the cool dog clothes/​beds/​toys and specialty food. There are even pet costumes if you want to go that route. i bought unique dog tags for my doggies. And the people working in the store are super helpful. It’s great to have a neighborhood pet store I can walk to anytime.

We were wandering around Abbot Kinney after lunch at Lemonade and stumbled upon/​into The Modern Dog. It looks like a house converted into a pet shop, which makes it more fun to walk around and discover nooks and crannies (and rooms) filled with lots of high-​quality goods for your beloved pet.
We ended up not buying anything in particular, but that’s more because we were just meandering through and didn’t necessarily have anything on our Bella list. They have an entire room dedicated to dog beds and another for food/​ingredients for food… a bit pricey but I think that’s because the items are quality and it’s a local, small business.
May or may not be back (parking in this area drives me nuts!) but would definitely recommend it for doggie owners.

If you love your dog (or cat) and you frequent Abbot Kinney, visiting this place is a MUST!
They have clothes, tags, toys, food, snacks, treats and so much more!
The workers were are extremely friendly and will happily answer your questions.
It’s a bit expensive but I don’t mind paying $ 5 – 6 more than Amazon to support a local business!!!
