Ohm Salon

This review is for stylist Jevonne (pronounced Siabahn). She has amazing hair cutting skills, great how to info, and is super accommodating. Highly recommend. I also like the she works with Aveda, a kick ass cruelty free brand.
I have a Pixie cut. It’s not easy to find a stylist to make the cut feminine and chic, not too big or too boyish. She had all the right moves and I LOVE my new cut! She introduced me to a great new Aveda product that is perfect for fine hair. I can see why she is also a longtime educator for Aveda.
I saw her by happenstance, but highly recommend. After 3 booked and lost appointments over the past week with the new front desk folks (the salon was recently purchased and has some new staff), not only did Jevonne answer the phone in the early am when the salon wasn’t open. But, she offered to stay late and fit me in at the same time I originally booked. She also alerted the original stylist I booked the appointment with (not directly) so she could call me back. Great customer service!
In short, she’s awesome, Ohm (now called Fringe) is pretty great (ahem please fix front desk booking issues — if Jevonne wasn’t so accommodating tonight i was on the verge of not coming back).
It’s a very cute bungalow salon with vintage vanities, lots of very talented and friendly stylists, and a great location with secret parking in the back. Bonus: Glacier the salon kitty!
PS Sam and Raquel are great stylists too. Seems like you can’t go wrong here.

I absolutely LOVE my new hair! I’m new to the area and went in not really knowing what I wanted.
I was super scared and a little anxious about having to go to a new place, but Jevonne immediately made me feel comfortable. She gave me some ideas of what she wanted to do and I am so happy I listened to her suggestions! She did a cut, color, and even showed me how to do a quick, low-​maintenance style. My hair looks so natural and healthy now… VERY happy!
I highly recommend this salon. Everyone there is so friendly and courteous… You won’t be disappointed.

Great salon, great hairstylists! I went in wanting to cut my hair to donate it to cancer and Tree made the whole process so easy. I’ve never went as short as I cut it today but Tree made me feel at ease. Her cutting skills are phenomenal and the way she layered my hair was so artistic. The prices here aren’t exaggerated like the rest of the salons in LA. The ambiance and atmosphere of the salon was beautiful! Definitely coming back. They changed their name to Fringe.

I was hesitant to commit to this salon, but now I can vouch for everyone here. They are the bomb at OHM! I have curly kinky coarse and fine hair that is medium length. I was seeing Evalyn regularly. Then she moved away… I am happy for her, then Tracy happily took me as a walk in that same day. Samantha has also done wonderful things and made my apr’es surf dry hair Beautiful smooth and wavy. Just everyone there is very friendly and they can handle my hair. Because my hair takes such at least an hour, never more than 2 hours here. I have been able to see them work wonders on other people.
Also the cool 1900’s vintage home style of the salon makes me want to keep coming back.

Tree and Hill are amazing! But what truly makes it an unforgettable experience is its Creator/​Owner Tracy Burns! Love you!

I just got my hair done by Raquel and love what she did to my hair! I also love this salon as it is decorated so cute and they offer you tea, water, wine even! How nice is that? I felt like I was on vacation in their little patio area, it is so relaxing! All the products that she used on my hair smelled so good too.

NOPE. NOPETY NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE! The review posted by «Laurel L» is a bold faced lie. Know how I know this? I was there.
This girl comes into Ohm in a haze of pot smoke and faux yoga peace. She clearly stated that she didn’t have enough money for the stylist for her services and a tip. Tracy proceeded to offer her a serious discount and did her hair. This girl starts an embarrassing hissy fit the second her hair is finished. «It’s ashy, it’s ashy, wahh, wahh, wahh. «Instead of acting like a real life adult, she starts getting combative with her stylist as well as the receptionist, demanding a discount and causing a scene. Whatever was said to her, she stomped her feet like a toddler and ran out of the salon. This was clearly not her first ride at the rodeo of non payment, and she should be embarrassed for herself. At one point, when someone mentioned to her maybe she shouldn’t go to a salon if she can’t afford the services, she flipped out and said «I’m from the Pacific Palisades!!! «
Bottom line, Ohm is awesome. The vibe is great, the prices are reasonable, and everybody there has a great vibe. Please don’t let one silly review mar your opinion of such a fabulous powerhouse of fantasma.

Went in with a rough idea for a ‘change’. Showed a photo of a cut I liked to Tracey. She explained what could be done with my hair towards that style and then set about giving me one of the best haircuts of my life. I couldn’t be happier.
I see most of the reviews on here are from ladies but guys don’t be put off by the very salony exterior.

Love Tracy Burns! I went in today very unhappy with my hair from a previous balayage experience. She explained the difference between balayage and foils and actually listened to what my expectations were. I walked out of the salon with a sigh of relief and I’m so thankful that she took the time to understand my frustration and get my blonde hair back to what I had hoped for!
She has great charisma, she’s fun to chat with and she really cares about her clients! The rest of the staff was lovely as well… especially Maisy!
Thank you ladies… I will be back!

It’s been over a week since Hil colored and styled my hair and I could not be happier! Everybody tends to look great when they leave the stylist, but I’m even happier now. Hil knew what would look natural and also enhance my face shape and color. She is a WIZARD!

Love Tracy! She owns the salon and really rakes care of you. Very knowledgeable and took the time to explain to me what needed to be done throughout the process to get it to the picture I asked her to mirror. So thankful I’ve found my new stylist!

WARING: I have never written a Unilocal review, however I think that Ohm Salons front desk worker was extremely unprofessional.
I went there to get my hair done and when I complained that the stylist did not do what I asked, therefore I wanted to pay less the front desk worker Kelesy said and I quote «if you did not have enough money to come hear you should not have made an appointment» She then took a photo of me without my permission. I would highly recommend avoiding this salon, while some go the stylist are great, her insulting attitude is not worth the trip!

Go see Tree Marqua for unbelievable creative colors at Ohm Salon in Venice. She went far beyond the extra mile to achieve the results I was hoping for. Love these people!!!

This is my first Unilocal review & I feel kinda bad that it is negative but I would really advise against coming here because 2 months later I am still super unhappy with the way my hair turned out, and wouldn’t want anyone else to have the same experience I did.
My first time just walking into a salon based on location & presence (trusted it being a cute salon & on Abbot Kinney) — I desperately needed a trim before starting a new job & after getting back from a 2 week beach trip & got talked into doing and cut & color.
I have naturally dark brown hair and had really pretty blonde grown out highlights/​ombré-​ish color that was a little damaged from being in the sun, and the stylist said she would enhance what I had and then make my hair look more healthy. I ended up with stripey 1998 highlights and my long hair was carelessly cut into choppy blunt layers. I told the stylist that I wasn’t totally happy with how harsh my highlights turned out and asked if we could put a toner on it and she had me step away from the mirror and told me «from far away it looks really good.» Uhhhh…(dramatic pause.)
I had paid a lot for my hair & was miserable so I called the next day and talked to the owner and told her I didn’t want to be difficult but was unhappy & she offered to have someone else fix it, so I came back. This girl agreed that my hair turned out horribly and tried to fix it by cutting the layers even shorter and basically dyeing it dark brown. I was sad because this isn’t at all what I wanted to do and it was just what I had to do. I wasn’t charged for the cut or color but just for a conditioning treatment she put on, which was nice I guess. I wasn’t in love at all but tried to stay positive that it would lighten up after a few washes. I washed my hair a couple days later and the dark color washed out and left me with an awful ashy greenish brown. I did what any adult would do at that point, I cried.
This was the end of March and now I am growing my hair out so I can go to someone else and have them fix the damage. I can honestly say this was probably my worse hair experience ever. I have since reached out to the owner and she had me send pictures of what my hair looked like and she said she thought the girls did a good job but I could come in and she would do it. If she thought it was good I realized the taste level was poor and I would be better off waiting until I could afford to spend another couple hundred on my hair again. I feel bad because they tried to help — very sweet people but I left being a first & last time customer and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone I liked.

Evalyn is the best. My everyday hairdresser who’s multifaceted. Girl can cut, color, style — she’s just perfect. And she’s very nice, too! Lucky me!

This review is or a full head highlight and a cut with Jevonne… This is my first Unilocal review but I had such a good experience I felt compelled to write a glowing review!
First I’ll start with the place. All the staff members are friendly and accommodating + quick to offer you coffee, water, wine… you name it! The salon is very small but very cute /​clean.
Now lets talk color! I’m a dyed blonde and I’m sure some of you know what a nightmare it can be to find a colorist who can really deal with bleaching without leaving you damaged and brassy. Enter Jevonne, this is the second time I’ve been to Ohm but the first time I’ve seen her and I can’t tell you enough how much she exceeded my expectations! Her consultation was so detailed and meticulous. Jevonne’s listening skills are on point and she left me with no doubt as to what to expect the results of my color service to look like. I’m absolutely in LOVE with the results and I left the chair with my damaged hair feeling softer and repaired which is unbelievable for a full head highlight!
The haircut. I wanted a simple trim with side fringe and some soft layers. The consultation for the cut was just as thorough as the color and she gave me exactly what I wanted right down to the blowout and style! I’ve definitely found my new girl I’m not going to anyone else but Jevonne! To be fair everyone getting something done by other stylists left looking flawless so I’m sure you are in good hands whoever you see but I will be going to Jevonne!

Just a tip to the customers looking on here… Beware of the way management tries to cover up the reviews with their responses. If you read the reviews and comments it is obvious.

Ask for Tracey Ann DeZenzo! My hair is so thick but she gave me a great detailed cut and color! She took so much weight out of my hair when she was done it felt AMAZING. My color looked good too, It came out a bit lighter than we expected but she told me I could come in within two weeks to get a reapplication of color to darken it up a bit! She was very sweet, professional and very down to earth! I didn’t have to wait at all for my appointment. I was 15 min early and she took me as soon as I walked in and gave me a consultation. And really took her time coloring and cutting my CRAZY THICK hair! I would recommend her to anyone. The atmosphere of this place is very nice as well, Small but I like that because it’s not so hectic and loud. Very relaxed and great price! I got 20% off for being a new custie YAY :) I’ll definitely be back

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would!!! I have never EVER left a salon absolutely LOVING MY HAIR! My hair stylist, Jevonne, was the BEST. She took me last minute and made all my birthday dreams come true. She travels all around the US teaching other salons and gaining knowledge and it rrally does show in her work.
All the staff were amazing! Wonderful ladies who really know how to make you feel like home. I would be a walking advertisement for this salon. They truly know what their doing and only use the very best products.

I would like to say Thank you to all my loyal clients over the past 8 years on Abbot Kinney. Especially my co workers and boss at Ohm Salon.
You’ve seen the years go by and I’ve watched your kids grow up and your lives enriched on a daily basis. You’ve given me more love and kindness than I can thank you for.
I love what I do and every happy person that leaves the salon feels like a blessing. I can not please everyone as we can see, especially when it’s someone else’s under taking I’m trying to correct. Or the client insists on cutting more and more hair even though I recommend not too. With that being said 1 bad review in 12 going on 13 years is amazing. It can be hurtful yet when you know you do the best you can with every person, you just can’t take things personally. They usually have nothing to do with you and just say NO when you see an unhappy person come your way before you’ve met them.
May we all have an amazing New Year and learn from those around us!

*UPDATE* Weeks after my review, Tree sent me several accusatory and defensive messages. She implied that the haircut was my fault and was incredibly passive aggressive. The owner sent me a private message offering to refund my money ONLY IF I REMOVED MY REVIEW. Does that sound like bribery to anyone? As a business owner, I simply cannot condone the unprofessionalism of this place.*
Let me begin by saying that I am a pretty chill person. I have had my fair share of not so great hair experiences without recourse, so I think I’m pretty tolerant. I usually just figure out a way to style it and move on with my life. This is the first time I have ever written a bad review for a haircut. EVER. I HATE that I have to do this because the stylist was so sweet and I just don’t like giving negative feedback, but I feel compelled to tell this story.
I came to see Tree because I read reviews and her clients seem to love her. She’s very sweet and has a great energy. She took her time, which I appreciate. I felt very comfortable at the salon. I had very high hopes, and although I was nervous about going shorter, I was kind of excited too. Here’s the problem:
She ruined my hair. I am sitting in another salon as I type this, incidentally seeing the stylist who’s responsible for all the pictures I showed Tree when I was asking for my cut. I’m preparing to cut my once long hair into a short bob because that’s the only thing I can do to save this haircut. Even so, the stylist is telling me that the layers in the front are so short and so messed up that they’re impossible to blend. He says the only thing I can do is let it grow out and keep it healthy, and not to trim my hair for another 4 months.
This is the absolute WORST haircut I’ve ever had in my 32 years – even worse than when I trimmed my own bangs in 5^th grade. It’s not suitable for public and it’s completely embarrassing.
I showed Tree several pictures of what I wanted. They were all shoulder length, textured cuts. I needed to chop off a few inches because my ends were pretty damaged. Rather than give me what I asked for, she gave me a TWO LAYER HAIRCUT. The top layer is short (maybe 4 inches) and the bottom layer is a few inches longer. I don’t even understand how this cut came to be. It looks like my son took a pair of shears and just started chopping. It’s an absolute nightmare. Everyone that sees it is like WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?
The only plus is that she didn’t charge me for the haircut, although I still walked out of the salon $ 170 lighter (for color and tip, yes I still tipped her). She touched up my roots (and put a too-​dark permanent color on my base) put a gloss on my hair, and chopped it to the point that I’ve been wearing beanies for two days. This salon trip was not worth ONE PENNY.
As of Now I’ve spent hours and $ 1000+ on fixing my hair with a professional cut (that’s now above my shoulder and still not fixed bc the short pieces cannot be blended) color correction, and extensions to fill out the short parts. Needless to say I will never ever return and I will advise everyone I know not to come to this salon or see Tree for salon services.
*UPDATE* I now have a bob. To be fair, it’s a very chic and sexy bob courtesy of Anh Co Tran, but it’s about 8 – 10 inches shorter than it was when I came to see Tree last week. She made my base color SO dark that my new colorist wouldn’t even attempt to lighten it because it would damage it too much. The worst part? No one from the salon has responded to my review or attempted to contact me for any form of recompense. I am so disappointed with this salon and the experience I had. I keep checking back thinking the owner will apologize or maybe offer to refund the $ 140 I paid, but nothing. What a terrible business!*

I needed a last minute cut and decided to Ohm since I have passed by it so many times. I met Evalyn who gave me an incredible wash and cut. She basically gave me a makeover and it’s one of the best cuts I’ve ever had! She was so kind and I trusted her completely since she asked me questions to see what my personality and lifestlyle were like. She also gave me tips on how I could maintain the style day to day, which I so appreciate.
I highly recommend Evalyn for a perfect haircut, makeover or for styling. She honestly made my day and I LOVE my new style.
