Ra Ma Institute

The Day I walked into RA MA Institute my life changed. Guru Jagat is amazing! I moved to Los Angeles because I knew it was the mothership for the practice and when I walked into RA MA I felt at home in a way I never imagined possible. Everyone is so nice here and the boutique is so much fun! I love Guru Jagat’s style and she always has the best clothes in there!

I’ve been to a few classes now and so far I am disappointed. I have been going to Golden Bridge for the past year and my experience has been so enlightening, intimate, and spiritual, and I was hoping RA Ma would be the same. I live closer to RaMa and decided to finally give it a try. Although Guru Jagat has good intentions, she talks for literally 30 minutes before getting into actually doing kundalini. It’s an hour and a half class. People have lives, I’d rather the class just be cut down to an hour and get right into it. My friends and I both noticed she’ll make inside jokes about people who we have no idea are and will promote her book she’s writing, promote all these other classes, and toot her own horn a bit. She also complains about millennials and talks about strange Instagram posts. Last week, each night she gave the same 15 minute speech about her Intersteller Star School three times. She also promoted that Rama was going to be in Spain for another 15 minutes. It’s just not relevant to the class to promote all these other classes. I noticed people were getting antsy and annoyed the third night, it wasn’t just me. It would be one thing if she talked for 30 minutes about teachings, but that is not the case. There is a constructive way to talk and teach at the same time. She reads off her laptop the entire time and literally quotes Yogi Bhajan the entire class. I’ve never had a teacher have to read what practice to teach. I wish they had a suggestion box so students could make recommendations. On the upside, there are some really great quotes she points out and has some cool things to say that make you think.
The difference with Ra Ma and Golden Bridge is that Ra Ma is much more of a social scene. Really awesome people attend, all very beautiful Venice people, but there is a click there. Golden Bridge seems to have more of a crowd of people who really are seeking healing and spiritually. There are less people decked out in white, but seem to take the practice more seriously. Ra Ma has people like this too, but there seems to be much more of a young trendy Venice culture vibe going on at the same time, which is neither good or bad, it just depends on personal preference. I hate to say it, but it does feel a bit culty at Ra Ma, I never felt that way at GB.
The real question is, how is the kundalini? How do I feel when I leave? It’s not bad, but it still doesn’t compare to one class at Golden Bridge. The work seems to be hit or miss at Ra Ma. I’ve attended Ra Ma around 5 times now and still haven’t felt amazing and just connected and I think it’s all the random talk and self promotion that gets to me. Maybe it’s just me really wanting to reach deep in a quite space after a stressful day at work. They keep the lights on, the classes can get packed, and it’s just not as spiritual feeling as I’d hoped. Also no one really is actually instructed on how to do things correctly and I noticed people would just be moving all over or stop doing things all together. I will try other teachers and hope it gets better.
I also noticed they have classes that channel your inner fairies and gnomes and angels and saints. Stuff like that makes me wonder if they are really taking the practice of kundalini serious. Yes, we should all have fun and a light heart, but Guru Jagat promotes «science & technology,» so her featured classes contradict the very name of her business.
I hope this review doesn’t come off negative. I know many look at Guru Jagat as a priestess of some sort, her classes get packed. There are great people doing great things at Ra Ma, it’s just my impression. Everyone’s intention at Ra Ma is positive and full of light, but something still feels a bit off to me. I wouldn’t have written such a long review if I didn’t care so much about kundalini. It really is an unexpected magical transformational practice.

I bought the new student pass which comes with any 3 classes. I have attended 2 so far and have been happy with the kundalini yoga classes. I wish this place was closer to my home because I would try to attend as much as I can. Worth the drive. Great place to get balanced again. Awesome stage and huge gong.

I finally made it in time for Guru Jagat’s class. I really liked her kooky, playful vibe. Gets a little too crowded for my liking inside… and if you need to leave early (I had parked in a 1-​hour space, note that there’s parking behind studio), you may have to make your way through flailing body parts. I definitely will be back for another lighthearted session with Guru J.

RA MA has become a second home. Kundalini technology allows us to tap into our limitless potential. It cleans up your subconscious mind so nothing holds you back from being present. RA MA is now a part of my weekly routine.

I am a lover of Kundalini yoga. It can clear the mind and allow one to live a fuller and much more peaceful life. That being said, I took a class with Guru Jagat and she was awful. She starts off the classes trying to sell workshops. Then she proceeds to talk about many different topic very unrelated. She even complained that she is attacked on social media. I am not sure if I would call it an attack or a commentary of her strange behavior. Then classes begins about 20 min later. She makes up her own form of Kundalini that is not based in any of the teachings. Well they may be loosely related. I usually leave Kundalini feeling uplifted. I left feeling tired and as if I someone tried to lure me into a cult.

Not bad but a little odd. Did the sleep over gong bath which was pretty amazing. The people there are a little goofy :)

Absolutely breathtaking studio space. I’m a huge fan of crystals and a Crystal Healer and there are some of the most beautiful high energy crystals at the studio. I usually practice at Yoga West but came here as I had a class in Venice to attend so decided to check out Ra Ma as one of my favorite teachers recommended it. Great retail area with crystals and malas and a great selection of amethyst geodes. Abundant parking in the back and the class I attend has excellent instructors with live music which I loved. Look forward to visiting this studio whenever I’m in the area!

RA MA saves my life over and over again! Guru Jaget (who founded Rama yoga institute) is a saint! All the teachers are incredible and they have 2 resident masters who have over 60 years of combined experience! I can’t recommend practicing kundalini yoga here enough. The atmosphere is very welcoming and open to all without feeling uncomfortable or alienated. See you there!

I had a great 2pm community class here yesterday. The instructor Ram —- was so friendly, humorous, and taught this meditation that was exactly everything I needed to hear. Cosmic! Love the giant crystals everywhere and I’ve never seen a gong that big in my life. Excited to utilize my new student month unlimited.

When my chakras are blasted wide open by KY kriyas, and my aura’s merging with the teacher’s & students’, I need to be somewhere grounded that feels protected. While RaMa is a beautiful spot, and the classes do bring your bliss on, it doesn’t feel like an energetically pure space.
I never thought I could say this about a kundalini yoga studio, but I am not a fan of RaMa. The space itself is gorgeous. When you walk in there’s a large shop with high ceilings selling white yoga clothes and plenty of chakra resonant jewelry. All nice especially for the über-​sceney crowd. And well-​located with easy parking.
Walking into the yoga room itself though I get a nasty jangly feeling. This has happened every time I’ve gone in for a class, even with the sublime Tej.
If it’s a matter of clearing the energy 3HOr’s, borrow some of the sage from out front and bang that gong hard to purify the space! Do it extra after Harijiwan’s heebie jeebie-​inducing group hypnosis NLP patter.

I will never forget my first class at Ra Ma.
I entered not knowing what to expect, feeling that nervous/​excited feeling I always get when I enter a new yoga studio for the first time. What’s the vibe going to be like? Are the others going to judge me for what I’m wearing? Am I going to embarrass myself?
The feeling inside was unlike anything I’d ever experienced. An immediate feeling of community and belonging was felt — men and women of all ages, all walks of life, coming together to learn, meditate, and connect. It was taught by Guru Jagat, who immediately welcomed me and made me feel instantly at ease. I was fairly new to Kundalini yoga, but my first class was so powerful that I had to go back again the next day. Over the past few months, I have grown to love Kundalini yoga and continue to learn and practice it whenever I can. I recommend it to everyone who is willing to enter it with an open mind and open heart.
The space is beautiful and calming — just being inside instantly grounds me. Each of the instructors is excellent and no class is the same, which I love. I have learned a vast amount of information about Kundalini yoga, its history, its benefits, and the general workings of the world from a yogic viewpoint from my classes. There is a whole world of ancient yogic wisdom out there that most people (myself included until I found Ra Ma!) don’t know exists. All have benefited my health greatly, and have motivated me to make many positive changes in my life that I probably would have never made otherwise, and I’m so grateful!
This is not your average yoga studio, that is for sure. Ra Ma attracts those seeking deeper spiritual fulfillment, and come to really get down to work fixing their egos, adjusting their karmas, and connecting with a higher power. There is a feeling of love and respect for everyone who has made their way through the doors. If you’re ready to open yourself up to making positive changes in your life, I highly suggest giving it a try and seeing for yourself if it’s something that works for you. Sat nam!

I went to my first Kundalini Yoga class at Rama Yoga. This might ruffle some feathers from the New Age crowd, but the truth must be told.
The instructor for the class was the owner of the business, «Guru Jagat», who started off the class by advocating a «4 DAY ICE CREAM CLEANSE»!!! My jaw hit the floor, and if it weren’t for my curiosity to experience first-​hand what this «Kundalini Kraze» is all about, I would have stood up and tore her a new one right there.
In her best softly spiritual quasi-​Valley Girl accent, she blathered a string of tenuous dietary «knowledge» about how «high fat diets are good for your brain», so binging on nothing but ice cream for 4 days is HEALTHY for you. No mention of the absolute decimation the fruit juices and honey sugar will wreak upon the pancreas. No mention that high fat diets must be EASED into and NOT done when the body is still functioning by processing carbs. Guru Jagat was completely just whoring herself and passing along disinformation to her students from the «spiritual» platform she has, and putting her students (including elderly folks) at risk to profiteer with a local ice cream shop. Completely irresponsible and lacking integrity.
I’m just going to continue to talk about my laughable experience for those of you curious about Kundalini Yoga…
I talked to a handful of people, completely unrelated to each other but all with years in the Kundalini Yoga world, some «certified teachers» through Rama Yoga (which I found out hands out teacher certifications like happy meals). They ALL remarked how Guru Jagat is a bad teacher… Uhf! THEN WHY IS SHE TEACHING?! Stop avoiding the truth by «making nice» and tell her! You’re avoiding the truth and allowing people to go to her classes, yet you’re all «spiritual teachers»? Typical New Age spiritual bypassing.
I noticed that the instructor would tell people what to do, but not actually INSTRUCT them and GUIDE them so they do it correctly. Essentially, the whole room was full of people doing one «exercise» in many different ways. Meanwhile, «Guru Jagat» sat wearing all white– turban included– tinkering with the music from her iPhone, which was so distracting and impersonal.
Then the actual Kundalini Yoga itself was basically a lot of «Fire Breathing» (breathing forcefully and rapidly through the nose) and various «Kriyas» (practices). I would later hear how people felt the «power» of fire breathing and would sometimes get headaches and get dizzy. Sorry to burst your bubble, but that «power» and uncomfortable dizziness is hyperoxygenation, not «activating your chakras» or «tapping in to the 4^th layer of your aura body».
The kriyas involved doing rudimentary, repetitive bodily movements while «fire breathing» (getting high on oxygen). Most of the practices seemed completely made up with no actual legitimacy other than what people wanted to believe about them. For example: making random animal noises to tap in to a specific layer of your aura. Lemme tell you something– the effects you’re feeling comes with ANY exercise that combines focused, intense breathing with moderate physical exertion and wishful belief!
I’ll have to look deeper in to it all, but I’ve seen this feedback about Yogi Bhajan before: he came from a wealthy family and decided to make a name for himself by becoming a «yogi magician» (read: trickster) who would bring his new form of yoga — «Kundalini Yoga» — to America. With the romanticism of India, hoards of impressionable spiritual neophytes would unquestioningly wear all white and do all these silly practices with naïve good intentions and «believe» they’re feeling whatever they want to find.
I don’t know how full of nonsense it is, but from my first impression, it’s brimming. Maybe it’s just the owner and there are other great teachers (I hope so), but If that’s what THE OWNER, founder, and spokesperson does… and if that’s any indication of the studio on the whole, go somewhere else.

This is THE BEST Kundalini yoga studio the Venice/​Santa Monica area. Not only is the community great, the space is pretty stellar AND there is ample parking in the lot behind/​streets surrounding. There have been events were it was PACKED but there was never any major drama with parking.
The teachers are awesome, so take advantage of the 3 classes for $ 14 to check them out and get a feel. The prices for memberships/​class series are reasonable and the boutique carries some cool and unique gifts.

Ra Ma institute deserves infinite stars because this place is a life saver for many. The gurus here are Authentic yet very hip and funny. Just pure genuine love and wisdom! If you want to heal and heal others and clean your karma. This is the place! Connect on a true humanistic level. Give it a try. I highly recommend it.

Oh my god. This yoga studio is in a word: sublime.
