Opening hours state 9:30 didn’t show up until 9:55, if you have opening hours stick to them.

Their work is fantastic and they couldn’t be nicer. I’ve taken things to them that other ‘framers’ have tried to do and failed miserably. They do an outstanding job every time and the people couldn’t be nicer, more patient or helpful.

Staff was really friendly and helpful in helping me find materials I needed for a figure drawing class. They had everything on my materials list. There’s a parking lot, which is convenient. I will be back!

At the time I visited Mittel’s in Venice, I was new to the area and Mittel’s was recommended to me by a friend. I ordered a French easel stating ‘I hope I don’t find this a lot cheaper elsewhere’. I was assured their prices were competitive. Well since then, I have found the identical easel at Blick for approximately $ 30 less and Aaron Brothers has their brand for approximately $ 130 less. Also online I have found a similar easel with other assessories included for $ 99. I asked Mittel’s if I could return the easel and was told there is a restocking fee and they only give store credit. All the art supply stores I’ve visited have been knowledgeable and very helpful. My suggestion is shop around!

I took a broken frame that is designed to for someone to put together themselves to see if Mittel’s could fix it. 2 of the 4 plastic L-​clips had broken. Another frame shoo quoted me $ 10 to fix it. However at that point I was on the hunt for new clips. Once when I stopped by to see if Mittel’s had the clips. the sales reps recommended that I come back when a guy Mike is there saying he likes projects like that & probably wouldn’t charge much. So I did however Mike want there again when I came in. The rep said to leave it for a repair quote. I was very clear not to, do anything that I wanted the quote first. The cost was $ 70. Wwwwwaaaaayyyyy above the 10 bucks I was quoted at another shop. So I called back let the, know that the price was too expensive not to do anything. It’s an 11×14 maple frame to have it reframed would be less than the repair. I wasn’t going to write a review just based on an exorbitant price. Each shop is different. However I just pulled the frame out to fix it myself since the clips no longer seem to exist and even though I was clear both at the time of drop off & when I phoned back not to do anything I’ve discovered they pulled out the metal inserts that bracket the painting in. So even if I repair the frame it no longer will hold the painting. What part of don’t do anything was unclear? I live ½ hour away from Mittel’s without traffic. Today it took me 45 minutes to get ther b/​c the roads were bumper to bumper. Now I have to cart myself all the way back up there. I am completely dismayed that a company would remove an essential part of a frame when they didn’t even have permission to work on it. I jus asked for a quote. It seems honoring their clients is not a priority.

In my experience, Everyone that works here will stop what they are doing to help you find what you need. The store also has great clearance sections as well as perfectly kept canvases and boards.
Great prices and great people. If you want to talk shop, just talk to Abby– she’s got tons of great references and recommendations when it comes to
selecting a medium.

i am not artistically inclined, nor do i even pretend to be so when i venture into a
place like this, it can be somewhat intimidating… however, the few times i have
been here, i’ve been very impressed with the customer service. knowledgable,
helpful, kind people who took their time with me. what a novelty! and they always
have stuff on sale. i highly recommend this art supply store and i hope it stays
around a long time!

Great Christian family owned business. Genuinely kind and helpful to all their customers. They will order you anything they dot have in store and call you when it arrives. Framing is solid built and produced on time. Go check them out!!!

I’d rather support a Mom and Pop store that cares about quality instead of a big box chain any day. Mittel’s is one I can get behind.
This place is fantastic. Brought a collage in to get framed. Found a vintage style frame that was on sale, and then consulted with one of the employees on which color backing to use. Two weeks later it was done and ready for pick up.
I think in terms of price is is quite fair, and considering they make the frames right there I’d say it’s a bargain.
By the way, the employees here are nice and treat you with respect. They don’t come across as being holier-​than-​thou about art, and I appreciate that.
I’ve purchased some supplies here, too. Same deal. If they don’t have what you need, I’m sure they’ll order it.

I came in to buy some colored chalk, while there I overheard and saw the Mittel’s team trying to find a particular item for a customer on the phone. All 3 people in the store were involved. It was great to see such a display of customer service to find whatever that person on the phone was looking for.

Got my stuff to reboot my painting skills. Its that time of my life to paint a self portrait!
This place was recommended to me on Twitter. Sure enough it lives up to the hype of friendly and knowledgeable service. As far as the prices go… well I don’t fault the people who run the store, after all they dont set the market price. But I will say that the term «starving artist» is still around for a good reason! Sheesh a small ass tube of oil pain $ 10!

Great Art Center, the helpful folks there are always welcome to see me when I come by. A few of my pieces of work are proudly displayed there. Some bad reviews are posted here from previous issues that have occured, but 99% of the time they are on the ball.

A fellow artist recommended that I go to Mittel’s to pick up some supplies that I needed for my photography. First off, there was some random homeless guy in the parking lot that wouldn’t move for me (it was the last parking space). I know that’s not their fault necessarily, but it immediately put a bad taste in my mouth.
Inside, this place looks just like any other mom & pop art supply store. I was able to find a few of the things I needed, but I noticed that their inventory was REALLY low on everything. You would think that a art supply/​framing store would at the least have picture hanging hooks.
Another thing that irked me was the guy that works there. He was REALLY slow. I actually thought to myself that this dude must be baked off of his ass. His eyes were red and glazed, and he just seemed out of it. There was a really hot girl that worked there, and she definitely was with it. She seemed very friendly, knowledgable, and willing to help find exactly what the customer needs.
Anyway, I’d give this place a 2 and a half if I could.

I discovered Mittel’s a few years back because of Unilocal.I had a wedding gift framed here, as well as a few other pieces over the years. Abby was amazingly patient and walked me though several options and took great care in finding the very best framing solutions. You would never receive that kind of service at Aaron’s brothers.

I came here based on the positive reviews and my desire to support an independent art store. What a mistake. I needed a temporary frame for an expensive piece of fine art. They helped me select an existing frame to save costs and was assured that it would be professionally framed until I could upgrade to a better frame.
Imagine my surprise when I went to pick up the work only to find that they had trimmed edges. Eh, ok. BUT THEY HAD CUT OFF THE ARTISTS SIGNATURE. In art-​world speak… they took a $ 2,500 work of art from a prominent artist and made it worth $ 10 and impossible to verify authenticity. Near tears, the owner was indignant that «this was what you wanted.» WHY would I want to cut off the signature??? Does no one at Mittel’s employ common sense??? After an annoying back and forth, they let me ‘call it even’ and not pay the rest of my bill. Chump change, given that I’ve lost $ 2,500.
Yes, the staff is nice and that’s why I gave them my business. But nice doesn’t equal competent and I wouldn’t suggest anyone frame anything there.

So really friendly people running the store. They have a lot of art frames, canvas from any sizes, sketch books, pencils etc. The place is well organized and clean. Prices are reasonable and real affordable for everyone especially students.
This place allows me to let my creativity flow freely without a burnt in my wallet. Plus, they put a smile on my face (:

These folks were super helpful when I went in there asking about stenciling and T shirt creation and all that good stuff.
They took a lot of time to explain inks and materials and creating stencils. I would definitely go back and spend my money there.
