If I had the ability to dole out karma points, I would give them 1,347,282! My husband, my four-year-old, two-year-old, and I went to flake for Sunday breakfast. The service was great, atmosphere hipstery and the food amazing! While I was dining, I dropped my wallet and all my annual passes shot out onto the floor. Disneyland, Aquarium, LA Zoo, Costco(remember the 2 and 4 yr old I was dining with?) were all on the floor and I had no idea. I noticed the passes were missing a day later, but assumed my pre-schoolers took them out and hid them in Elsa’s ice castle. I got a text from someone at Flake letting my know they had all my passes! **They went out of their way to get my phone number and track me down!** I picked them up the next day and thanked them profusely and left a sweet tip. So, not only will you get excellent service and amazing food at Flake, you will also meet the nicest people ever! Thank you again Flake!

Fun little place to stop by for breakfast. The acai bowls are sweet and refreshing. I would recommend trying them here. The bacon breakfast burrito is tasty and the green sauce is good too. The orange juice is not freshly squeezed but rather poured from Tropicana. A bit pricey. Almost $ 35 for two people.(ordered a bowl, burrito and two orange juices) The place is a little too small though. They have a sit yourself system which doesn’t really work if you’re going to have such a small place. We were a party of 3 and it was our first time there. You have to order and pay for your food upfront. They give you a table number of it is that you’re dining in. The problem that there are a limited amount of tables. The waiter came out with or food however we were standing waiting for a table to open up. They should sit people as they come rather than have open seating. In a tables for 5 two idiots decided to sit there. Each idiot was taking up an entire table rather than getting the 2 person table. The waiter took us to the side where they have a surfboard that opens up as a counter and he ran inside to get us high chairs however the chairs were already being used. We spent like 10 minutes standing up with our food waiting for a table. Everything is fine about the café except the poor seating arrangements they have. For a place so small they need to arrange the seating. If you go and you’re a party of 3+ I suggest you eat in your car if no tables are available while you’re ordering.

big fan inexpensive and delicious, limited menu but i’m fine with that. couple different types of breakfast sandwiches, ham or bacon, croissant, english muffin, or burrito. basic and delicious. most of the items are smaller in size, went to the little bodega next door and got some chips to accompany my breakfast sandwich. seating is somewhat limited but not hard to come by, turnover is fast(its not table service, you order at the counter and bring it to you)

Cool little place with good food. Cro-jo is legit. Turkey sausage breakfast burrito is super yummy, especially with the green tomatillo salsa. Eggs are perfectly cooked and avocado is fresh and delicious. They have a variety of some acai bowls that are ridonculous. Have a variety of morning coffee libations to suit your tastebuds. Place is a little small but I have always gone between 7 – 8 am and never had a problem with the wait or getting a seat. Staff have always been super friendly. It has a slight décor that plays on the beach theme. Every time I am in the area it is a strong contender for my breakfast needs. Definitely recommend.

Wasn’t too impressed with the croissant. Tasted good, but nothing mind blowing. I would be easy for anyone to recreate in their home for half the cost. To be fair, I have not tried their bowls, which looked pretty good, so I’ll have to update this review when I return. The other downside is that there is usually a long queue, especially around mid-day on weekends. This is expected, but if you’re short on time, it may be quicker to check out another brunch place in the area.

Don’t order the make-your-own cereal. Just c’mon. Aside from offering you the choice of what you can do at home for a fraction of the price, everything else on the menu is on point. I love having breakfast dates here and taking a 15 minute walk to Abbot Kinney. There’s street parking a few streets into the suburbs that’s fairly easy to find. The storefront is easy to recognize with a giant orange surfboard that’s so ~Venice~, you can’t help but smile. The Super Cro-Jo is as super as they named it. The only complaint is that it’s misleading for people to describe it as a sandwich because it’s more of a snack. For $ 8, you don’t get a hefty meal but you get a top-notch appetizer. But with all the food in and around the area, it might not be a bad thing that this doesn’t leave you stuffed and debilitated the way anything with the word croissant usually does. I’m particular to the acai bowl but it’s not for everyone. It’s more dessert than breakfast. The acai is frosty and breaks apart in your spoon like a slushie. They serve a modest amount but it’s so sweet, your cavities won’t want any more than what they give. I’d compare it to sorbet. I’ve never had acai like that before, and I enjoy it(in small doses). I definitely recommend adding the berries to mix it up so you’re not just lapping up a purée the whole time. They give just enough strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and banana to cover the top so ration your bites carefully.

THISPLACEIS A GEM! I ordered The Fatty on a croissant $ 7.25. It comes with turkey, swiss, avocado and secret sauce. It was definitely a fatty! So mouthwatering! Lots of meat and avocado. And the Sambazon Acai Bowl $ 7.75 is a must! The frozen sorbet is thick and sweet. I was almost done with my sandwich and the sorbet hasn’t melted yet! Perfecttttt! Staff was awesome! Super friendly and quick! Park in the neighborhoods or on the streets. And the beach is a couple blocks down the street, probably a 15 minute walk.

This place was delicious, just a super long line out the door but that just proves how good it was. I got a very simple croissant sandwich, I definitely recommend it. My fiancé went with a Nutella banana English muffin. Not too much seating, most of it was outside; and dogs are allowed which was an added bonus.

Delicious, healthy breakfast near Venice Beach! The BF and I came here seeking a lighter breakfast after having gorged on allll the delicious food in L.A. We each got an acai bowl with mixed berries. It was just what we were craving to detox all the ramen, Thai, Indian, and Mexican food we ate… would definitely return to try one of their breakfast sandwiches and/or get another acai bowl!

This place is the best. We just moved in down the street, and we eat here at least four times a week. That’s not an exaggeration, and it’s not a ambivalent, «well, I guess we can go to Flake.» Like, we all actually suggest going there. We have never, ever been disappointed with the food, service, or vibe. It obviously beats any fast food establishment around, but I think it even competes evenly with some of the full restaurants around. I have actually tried everything on the menu at least once(yes, I kept a tally). For breakfast I recommend the rad muffin(ham, eggs, cheddar and secret sauce), the Fatty(turkey, swiss, avo and secret sauce on a croissant) or the nutty something(I forget the name, but it’s nutella, peanut butter, bacon and banana). You almost lose your composure the first time you bite into the nutty thing. If you’re feeling healthy, though, get one of their acai bowls(be careful though, the acai is frozen, which I wasn’t expecting). For lunch, I usually stick with the redneck cowboy chicken(a bqq-esque chicken sandwich), the poseidon’s melt(a tuna melt), or the BLAT, with kettle chips or a side salad. Salad is pretty good, but I’m fat and usually opt for the fries. Their burritos are also really good, but a little messy. The tomatillo salsa is perfect. I mean it, it’s the perfect amount of spice. Salads are fine. It’s hard for a salad to be mind-blowing, but theirs are pretty good. Coffee and pastries are great to. I don’t usually get a mocha anywhere, but I find myself often getting theirs. Finally, the staff is wonderful! Always friendly, always asking about how we’re doing, joking during breakfast how we’ll be back at lunch. I’d probably invite some of the to my wedding. Really just a wonderful place, and I’m so glad to have it within walking distance.

Light delicious breakfast? FLAKEITIS! I been here twice and I been very happy both times. I’ve only been on the weekend and it gets busy but never a long wait. I tried their super cro-jo croissant sandwich and it was really good and not too heavy at all. I also tried with Acai bowls. BOMB. The Acai had a nice thick constancy and came with lots of hemp oats. You also put add ons for $.50 to $ 1. They also have cereal toppings! Everyone at Flake is also super nice.

Decent prices for quick service breakfast foods — healthy breakfast foods! I think my one complaint is that the«cheddar cheese» on the breakfast burritos seem to look and taste just like sliced American cheese… which is crap!!! Bleh, I would’ve preferred no cheese. In any case, still not bad, I hope they change the cheese soon…

I just moved to a new place right by Flake and was delighted to see such a PERFECT breakfast/brunch spot so close by. Flake has become my instant weekend favorite. The little spot is in a great location on Lincoln, with outdoor seating and a cute, surfer ambiance with the decorations. The service is quick, the staff is friendly, and the food is delicious. They have all the breakfast classics – I am personally a burrito lover. I judge pretty much all breakfast places based on their burrito and I was not at all disappointed by the burrito here! It’s decent sized with good ingredients and was really satisfying. Washing it all down with some iced coffee and good friends makes a great start to any Saturday or Sunday!

Awesome place for great healthy & tasty breakfast/brunch! The staff were very friendly and not pressuring me to order quickly(I always take a long time to decide on what to eat) but honestly all their menu looks really good(yup I always like to check what other people ordered!). We will surely come over again to eat!

Since our bodies never got adjusted to PST, we would wake up at 5−6am thinking it was 8−9am. Our hotel didn’t have food, so with our handy dandy Unilocal app we found this lovely establishment that was within walking distance. After drooling from looking at the pictures(Especially Peter D.‘s) & waiting for places to open, we finally made it here. I went with the Super Cro-Jo & my friend went with the bacon burrito with the special sauce on the side. It was so good we almost ate the paper it came with. Came just like everyone else’s pictures. You know like how when you go to any other restaurant what you get on your plate looks nothing like the menu… Well if Flake had food pictures on their menu it would look the same each time. Flake, you did not disappoint one bit.

I love Flake for their breakfast croissant sandwiches, breakfast burritos, their quiche and blueberry coffee cake. All of these things are the best in the city. Trust me… I’m a breakfast burrito connoisseur. I’ve tried them all, all over town and this is by far the best, for me. It’s the light and fluffy kind… Not the kind that’s greasy and filled with meat. And the quiche. YUM. It’s small, but comes with either a salad or fruit. It’s so flaky and good! And their blueberry coffee cake! O. M. G. It’s so moist and tasty! And they definitely don’t skimp on the blueberries! Delicious! It’s a breakfast/lunch joint and closes at 3… so it’s rare that I can ever hit it up during the week, but good enough to battle the crowds during the weekend. It’s a small little place where you order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. There are a few tables outside if you wanna people-watch all the crazies on Rose Ave… and there are lots. Lots of things happening on this street… hope this stays put. .

My visits to California include seeing my tribe, soaking up sunshine and seeking out Acai bowls. On the evening before I was set to jet back to Chicago, I opened up my Unilocal app and searched for a farewell Acai bowl to eat on the way to the airport. Unilocal steered me to Flake in Venice. It is in a neighborhood like setting and it is on a corner with a couple tables for outdoor seating. The menu is small and you order at the counter. We went with an Acai bowl with berries and a Super Cro-Jo(based on the rave reviews). The actual bowl that the acai was served in was frozen and the icy mixture was more like a sorbet than a smoothie. It was a modest size and we went with berries, bananas and granola. The quality of the fruit toppings were a plus and each bite was the perfect combination of tastes and textures. Cro-Jo was indulgent, but equally delicious. We definitely ended our Acai bowl tour on a high note. Any future SoCal trips will now require a send off from Flake before arriving at LAX.

I had an appointment across the street and I was hungry. Saw there was a line out the door to order at this place so I figured it had to be decent. The menu here is pretty solid and they have a bit of everything. Even though I originally wanted to try the breakfast burrito, I decided against it and tried something different. I got the Super Cro-Jo and it was really good. Had some eggs, bacon, cheese, veggies and their secret sauce. It was a good size and tasted great. I just wish the croissant was a bit toasted, but no big deal. Solid spot to get breakfast from but just be ready to wait in line on the weekends.

Yes! Yes! Yes! I want to eat here every day! This place is super adorable– chill atmosphere, chill staff and great food. Ordered a breakfast burrito and a acai bowl and both were on point. Seating is a little limited, but we were lucky to snag a table. Would have loved to try some of their baked goods, but I had to finish that acai bowl… I don’t think food needs to be super fancy, it can be simple and be in simple combinations that taste good. Fresh food+ a little care= great food. This little place is no frills, but I really love it.

Food 4 Price 2 Ambiance 2 Food was tasty and fresh, but if you throw any combinations of eggs, bacon, cheese, and avo with some kind of carb vehicle it’ll be good. Let’s just say that after eating here and paying $ 10 for a turkey sausage burrito, I’m rethinking the whole notion of going out for brunch/breakfast. Honestly you can make your own b-burrito at home for a fraction of the price. The Acai bowl after adding the fresh berries costs $ 9. You can buy a big ass amount of frozen Acai from Costco and make your own for, again a fraction of the price. Also if you enjoy eating your food elbow to elbow with strangers and having to listen to a hipster millennia comment on «how she can’t go back to eating regular tomatoes after having organic ones» then this is the place for you! Despite all my rants about the overpriced generic brunch, I’ll probably be back on here writing a review about another hipster brunch/breakfast spot not too far in the future. Because well, let’s be honest they’re ubiquitous and so easy when one is so lazy.
