Holiday Inn Express Vancouver North – Salmon Creek

I was tired from driving in the snow. This is a hidden gem away from the big city. It was clean and quiet. The staff was friendly. ⁴⁄₅ stars only because I’ve seen better lighting in the rooms.

Simply awesome! From check in to imminent check out, this Holiday Inn Express had it all! Alyse checked us in and she was the nicest person. Very warm and very friendly. The lobby area is gorgeous with nice décor. The great room, where breakfast is served, is nice and clean. We had a room with a king bed and a pull out couch just for extra space. The room is gigantic. The bed is so comfy that I’m typing this as I’m laying down on it. Hate to get up from it! HA! Regardless, the bathroom has a granite-​looking sink and beautiful tile throughout. Trust me people I’m a tough customer when it comes to hotels and had been known to walk out, write to management and dispute charges. I’m no pushover so I say that to tell you that when you’re in the Vancouver Washington area, this is your choice! Wonderful room, wonderful staff, great breakfast, what more is there? Kudos!

I was informed that this location had been remodeled, so I gave it another try even after having a not great experience a few years earlier. NOT a good idea. Our family gets together once a year and meet up in the Vancouver area. We come from Seattle and Southern California areas. We reserved two rooms to house our side of the family from the Seattle area. I am not a difficult person to please. I just expect to get what I pay for, and what is advertised.
First problem– All night long, we could hear the front lobby door on the first floor (we were on the second floor) opening and closing. So annoying. When I complained about it the following morning, I was told by the front desk guy «That’s the only room in the hotel that has that problem.» What? I would have loved to been informed of this when I booked the room!
Second problem– We had use of the indoor Jacuzzi on the first night, but not after that. It was actually cold, and when we went to the front desk to complain about it, the lady at the desk told us that there was nobody around to fix it, but she would try… Well, she couldn’t fix it. And upon check out when I brought it up again, I was told «When the Jacuzzi needs to be cleaned, it empties, and then had to be reheated.» What? Lame excuse, anyway the indoor feature of the pool and Jacuzzi was one of the reasons that we choose this location.
Third problem– The «breakfast» was something that I didn’t think could be messed up, well… I was wrong. We had to wait every morning for food to be replenished, most of the bins were empty most of the time, we had to wait for 20 – 30 minutes for it to be done. I again went to the desk to complain about it and was told «yea, it will be like that tomorrow too because I have to do the desk and the kitchen because we are short of help.» What? I didn’t even know what to say…
Fourth (and final) problem– We stayed in the biggest «suite» available. It has a king bed in a separate room with a door. Well, what they don’t tell anyone is that if you want any privacy and close your bedroom door, the other half of the hotel room where the others are sleeping won’t have any air conditioning because the air conditioning «wall unit» (yes, old school wall unit) is in the bedroom with a door and there is not air conditioning in the other room. My kids were very hot all weekend long. When I went down to the front desk to complain about that issue, I was told «That’s what the standing fan is for.» What? The standing fan? Really? I paid $ 600 to use a rotating standing fan?
I complained online and by e-​mail to the corporate office, with no response as of yet.
Again, I am not a crazy person that expects complete perfection, I just want to get what I pay for. I will update if and or when I hear back from the corporate office with their response and /​or offer to compensate me for this horrific stay at their location.

I have stayed here three times now. This is a very typical Holiday Inn Express. It is very new; very well maintained and in a great location. It is a rigidly consistent and predictable product. The staff was warm and friendly at check in. When it comes to traveling on business a lot, I appreciate those attributes.
Like all Holiday inn Expresses, it is typically a 3 star property. But location, and the physical plant earn it an additional star.

I really like staying here when I’m the Portland area, very nice staff.
Rooms are clean and they take good care of you.
They have a managers reception that the owner Gary comes in and serves the guests. The owner is a very nice person and really likes servicing his customers.

A very nice place to stay. Breakfast on par with most. Clean and well cared for facilities and grounds. Very comfortable bed and pillows. I would stay here again.

I stay here when visiting Vancouver due to the discount offered to WSU employees. The staff are helpful and will accommodate requests (e.g., adjoining rooms). The place is clean and quiet.
The internet is slow during peak times… REALLY slow.

We stayed in a double queen room at $ 89/​night; after tax is $ 100.26. Very clean, had a fridge, microwave, tv. Only the light switch at the door works but the lamps cover the rest of the room. Bathroom had mini Bath&Body Works shampoo, conditioner, and lotion in the scent white citrus. There are two mini soap bars, a shower cap, and even a makeup remover wipe! Shower’s water pressure is very strong. Free complimentary breakfast at 7; yogurt cups, bagels, muffins, scrambled eggs, biscuits, gravy, bacon, turkey sausage patties, coffee, juice, and water. The beds were too soft for some of my family members but they were still firm enough for me. The receptionists were nice and check in/​out was very fast.

This Holiday Inn Express was a marked upgrade from a similar hotel nearby in the same price range. I was staying in the Vancouver area on an extended business trip and found myself seeking a better hotel, but still under $ 100 per night … and thanks to a corporate discount, that is exactly what I found at the Holiday Inn Express in Salmon Creek in North Vancouver near the intersection of the 205 and the 5.
