Los Angeles Department Of Water and Power

Corrupt government agency. Over charging everybody.

It’s starting to feel like I’m living in a Third World country here. This is the second power outage in less than two months. The previous one lasted less than two hours. This time it looks like it might go all night. Looking at the ladwp outage map, there are at least 20 areas including mine that are out of power at the same time.

LADWP has the WORST customer service. My water was shut off yesterday without any warning. I had to submit multiple requests to have water and power turned on. Once the water was shut off and I called customer service I was told I could not pay for water at my building and would need to contact my building manager… which is odd because I had the manager with me when I called DWP and all the customer service rep did was continuously refer me back to the building manager. I was forced to put in ANOTHER request to have water ADDED to the already activated WATER AND POWER account. The dates and requests are now all incorrect and I am still without water. It is absolutely ridiculous the amount of run around LADWP gives it’s customers.

Got new bill, sewerage uasage was unreasonable higher than water usage. Called twice. Still waiting for the correction.

The department of water and power is so corrupt that we need a savior to save the city of los angeles. My naighbor works for the ladwp has been stealing water from a hydrant for the last 22 years to water his lawn, fill his pool and rinse down drive way and sidewalk. Nothing was done to him. I forwarded pics to the mayor and they told me he is protected by his union. This shows you how corrupt these crooks are!!!

The wait was a bit long, but worth it. The service I received from a representative named Jim was exceptional. Perfect English with a friendly tone. Gave me the information and contact numbers I really needed in order to figure out a situation I was dealing with in a house I am renting a room from. Also gave me advice on saving money with my new place as well. Can’t thank you enough for good customer service.

DWP telephone service sucks. !!

I went here for the first time today and honestly not a bad experience at all. The line was long but it went fast and I was out in less than half an hour (way better than the dmv!) The girl that helped me was nice and efficient. Plus there’s plenty of street parking.

Want to know the best part about public services departments? They don’t give a crap about Unilocal reviews when they are the monopoly. A generator is not going to work for your home so they know you are stuck with them.
Anywho, got a bill for $ 907 today… For a 1 bedroom apartment… NINE… HUNDRED… DOLLARS. I cannot wait for my 3 hour long phone call to the LADWP tomorrow (because that is how long it takes them to pick up… And I have to go through the customer service airheads to get to a person with a brain as well).

Fraudulent!!! Be very cautious of your bills! They have double charged me for the last 2 years and not returned my phone calls or emails and this is our state government??! I am
Suing you theives in a class action. Shame on you for engaging in this sort of behavior. And we impose sanctions on other governments for criminal behavior. How about grand larceny by the government against its own citizens. shame! Shame shame!

I was on hold for exactly an hour and finally they disconnected on me, by asking me to call back at a later time. POOR SERVICE!

So is this for real? 2014? Every single resident in los angeles all 20,000,000 people must really walk into this line at their office in person and show their lease just to have the power on at their home??? Unbelievable

Every time a call them to discuss my account no one ever answers the phone. I called LADWP today and I was on the line for almost an hour and no one ever answered the phone. Bad Customer Service!

Where to begin…
I still haven’t been able to figure out who actually takes first place as THE WORST public service agency. .
I’ll let you decide…
A) LA DWP which probably has the longest call wait time from all the runner ups. That has convenient offices all over Los Angeles, some even less then 5 miles away from each other… Yet they can manage to keep 1 office open past 5:00:01 with the assistance from a pathetic security guard telling me off in street slang. Try staying ooen till 7 at the very least so people that get off at 6 have a opportunity to make it to the office before your close. Wake Up!!! It should be a law for public services to stay open till at least 8 P.M.
B) DMV which has the worst online website /​and app that pretty much can’t do anything. For instance.. to renew your drivers license you can do so online for «faster and easier» way! Sounds good! Log on… sign up, enter all info, including the special access code in my renewal paperwork… click submit. .expecting it move forward.. NOWAY! !! Meassage code: Please contact DMV for further assistance to process login access. …Really? ??? So why did I sit here and waste 10 minutes trying to sign in and log on… whe. all I jav3 to do is call anyway??? is it to buy 10 minutes time from someone calling the DMV or was it to make it convenient for the next time my license expires in 10 years. The automated phone service has to worst ever! ! God forbid you breathe durning the call duration because it hears it as an answer and responds with the classic «I’m sorry, I didn’t get that… lets start over again» LAME! !!! I wonder how many billons it costed them for that lame «informative website, or the DMV App that they had made for bragging rights and spent a fortune, or the automated phone system from 1989 that probably takes up half a city block in data and costs a fortune in power just to operate. Just to think about the unormally amounts of yearly registration «Fees» instead of tax so it doesn’t have to voted upon they are collecting. They still cant get it right.. All that money from all those cars, and sadly still struggling.
C) Post Office. … Need I say more! !!! The most miserable people on the face of this earth. It may actually be a requirement to be miserable, rude, and miserable to qualify for a position. Its so sad… getting paid extremely well considering most citizens are stuck working minimum wage I.e. Macy’s, fast food chains, and etc. … What I always say… if your miserable working there… just quite and go work someplace else.. that simple!
I believe if a private sector ran these agencies it would be a fast moving, money making asset for tbe state. They would make the system make efficient, operating at a much lower cost, and spending less. Just to give an example UPS, Fed Ex, Costco, Walmart… These companies handle as much volume if not more the the 3 worthless agencies mentioned above. So if yiur wondering why we are broke and in a deficit.. System is being operated correctly!!! Shame on the government for encouraging laziness to stay home and collect unemployment, and benefits. Why nit benefit the worker fir having the job and paying thae taxes. Unemployed: Free food, doctor visits, section 8, and dental included.. Employed: Sorry you can not recieve benefits.. yes even if you bave a tooth ache… we understand you paid about 75% of your earnings in taxes via payroll, utility, fuel, property, sales tax, and etc… But we can not assist you… we have lazy folks at home that need to paid and taken care of… they are the future of tbis country! !! So you just going to have to deal with pain and suffer with your tooth ache.
This system needs to change! !! I hope this enlightened most ir nkt some of you how messed up and backwards everything is…

I did not want to come here because of all the reviews I had read. But it’s the closest dept. so I came. I actually had a great experience. I came after 10a.m. There was 19 people in line and I only waited 7 minutes in line. At the window, 2 min tops. The lady was very nice. All the workers seemed in good spirits. I even found street parking (free). There is meter parking but you most likely will not need to use it. There is a small lot to park but not much space. Right next door to the gas company. It’s hard to spot the building depending on the direction your driving but it’s on the corner of Haynes st. In van nuys.

Have been billed for an account that isn’t ours for TWO YEARS. Every time that we call unhelpful CS employees acknowledge their mistake yet we are still receiving bills. Call them and wait for an hour on hold. Life is short. I am sick of wasting my time with this disgusting company. Do whatever you can to skip doing business with LADWP.

All department of water and power today are out of control. Really don’t know how they are still in business. I have been trying to get a hold of customer service, placed on hold for HOURS. Even went down to a location in Winnetka and had no solution even. My company is being over charged, haven’t sent us a bill for months and once we get one its a notice of cancelation. I don’t know how they are considered the best customer service

A little back story.,.moved from Burbank, who has their own water and power, to Encino, joining LADWP. Since day one, my meter has been broken.
Never in my life have I encountered so many unhelpful people. For seven months… that’s right, SEVEN MONTHS… I kept calling asking them to fix my meter so they could CHARGE me for my water and sewage. Everyone kept saying there was nothing they could do and an order is in for a replacement meter. Finally, after seven months, it was fixed. Thankfully, I was overpaying each time in an attempt to cover the pending back charges that will soon come.
Well, I was wrong. They needed to base their estimates of what my usage was off of something, so they used the previous tenants usage. An entire family, when we are only two people. Tried calling to get this clarified for 3 weeks being sent all over the place. Finally spoke with someone who is supposedly in charge of the estimates and she was the best of all of them. The attitude and sarcasm when I merely asked a question (if I was even able to speak) was beyond anything I have ever experienced.
The amount of time and energy I wasted over this cost much more than the $ 200 I was overcharged.

So I paid my bill online like I always do and noticed there were no withdraws from my account. I checked their site and noticed my bill had gone up another $ 25 so I figured I must not have completed the payment last time so I paid again. Then I noticed a week later that there still was a balance plus another $ 25 charge ($ 50 additional) and I couldn’t pay online anymore and had to pay cash only.
Who does that???
I called and spoke to a couple of brick walls before escalating to the concrete wall supervisor. They had used my old bank account from 5 years ago which had been closed since… Somehow this was my fault so I’m cash only for the next 14 months.
This is why monopolies don’t work anywhere in the world!

Besides the multi hour hold times, their website does not work and they won’t mail out bills.
This company is a joke. They have been ‘working on it’ for three months, but year after year they rank as one of the most hated companies in the country. Really. Like 9^th one year, 11^th another and so on. Just all around awful.
City officials, we need to do better. LADWP is garbage.
