History

Established in 1979.

Owner Jack Bulko started AutoAid & Rescue in 1979 as a mobile tune up service called «the Tune Up Doctor» bringing the convenience of auto care to peoples homes and offices. This concept evolved into a towing and mobile repair service (Auto Rescue) at the same time Jack started a family and had 5 sons. David Bulko — the oldest, graduated UC Santa Barbara — is managing the shop now. Alex, son number 3 joined after graduating from UC San Diego. Jack is working on customer and community service and marketing. Through popular demand, a permanent home was established at the current address offering full Auto Body and Collision Repairs and AAA Approved Automotive repair service on most Domestic and Import cars, SUVs and light trucks. Both Jacks family and the AutoAid & Rescue family have grown with 5 sons for Jack and thousands of customers served for the company. We’re very grateful!

Business Owner

Jack Bulko (Dad), born in Israel, moved to the Bronx NY in 1961, graduated DeWitt Clinton Hs and Bernard M. Baruch City College of NY in 1974. Jack Studied Business Administration and International Trade. Jack moved to Van Nuys in 1974 and became a Real Estate Broker until he started the «Tune Up Doctor» in 1979.

David Bulko joined Dad in the family business 2007. Valley Boy born in Tarzana, graduated from the Cleveland HS Magnet program then attended and graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in Economics. David learned his customer service skills at the 5 Star «Bakarah» resort in Santa Barbara while attending school there. He makes a mean Long Island Ice Tea as he developed his bartending skills at this resort. Jack and David enjoy playing golf when work allows.

I was charged $ 135 for diagnostics. Not only is this higher than any other mechanic has charged me, none of the fee was applied toward the repair offer. One of the problems was getting a new gas cap, and they were going to charge me $ 66. I went to Autozone and bought the same cap for $ 10. There was a sensor replacement that was going to cost $ 400, but another mechanic down the street charged $ 300.

Alex, who is the son of the owner was so helpful. And as a new customer I was given a discount on my oil and filter change service. While I waited for my car I did some work and it was done in no time. They made me feel like family. It was a great experience. And the bathroom was cleaner than most restaurants I’ve been to.

Awesome service. I love the way they go over the vehicle with a fine tooth comb and point out not just current problems but potential future issues, but their is never a sales job to add on additional repairs, it’s just presented as for your information. When I was younger, I went to many places only to find out later I was getting ripped off. It’s nice to have a place I can trust to fix exactly what needs to be fixed, no more and no less.

Efficient, professional and super friendly as always! My old minivan died at 6 o’clock at night in the middle of an intersection. I got it towed to AutoAid which at 7.30 a.m. immediately started working on the car giving me an email estimate in few hours and had the car fixed by that afternoon. Just great for a mom that has kids to run back and forth to school :-)

I went in about a week and a half ago, as the car is almost at 100,000 miles. I thought I should at least get an oil change, but they said that the sticker showed that I’d only put 1,000 miles since the last time, so there was no need. But, that didn’t stop them doing an entire inspection, and they did suggest a few things, but assured me that it wasn’t an emergency. Usually mechanics will try to sell you maintenance work that isn’t absolutely necessary at that at exact moment. So, what I learned was that the guys at Auto Aid, are honest and trustworthy, and they WILL be the guys I choose to work on my car. Finding an honest mechanic is like finding a good Doctor… and once you find them, you then have peace of mind. The mechanics name was Bret. He was very informative and very knowledgeable. And, NO HIGH PRESSURE!

I had the most incredible experience at Auto Aid. This is a car shop you can trust. As soon as I walked I felt at home and felt like I was in a place that wasn’t going to rip me off! Everyone was kind and very very helpful! It felt so great to know I’ve finally found a place I can trust. It really does feel like a family there and as soon as you walk in you’ll feel the same way! Honest people, with intentions of honestly helping you. They let you know what you need to get done and what you could wait on if you can’t really afford it. I highly recommend this place auto shop. LOVE LOVE LOVE these guys!!! David and Per are awesome! I needed a replacement car ASAP and couldn’t take the time to have it inspected. Happily it came with a 30day motor and tranny warranty, and so I took it to Auto Aid the first week. Their inspection was very thorough and it gave me the chance to take the car back to the dealer and have clearly identifiable issues resolved. Not only did the report include major structural and mechanical factors it also took body work into account. Sadly, without weekend hours it’s been practically impossible for me to arrange to bring it back in for an estimate of costs on brakes and tires. If you’re thinking of buying a car, take it to Auto Aid Rescue BEFORE you sign on the dotted line. The inspection is affordable, the techs are friendly and knowledgeable, and you won’t regret it. — GO BRUINS!

This auto shop advertises «female friendly» as a lure to bring in naïve women to take advantage of… I was charged exorbitant fees for basic work like polish vehicle, $ 499, and steering fluid flush w/​kit, $ 250. I put my foot down when they quoted $ 950 to replace my engine mounts. One is broken, which I ordered new online for $ 50 and I can replace myself, 1 bolt on either side, easily accessible. Watch out ladies, and gentlemen too, these guys look good but they’ll gouge you.

Finally found an honest mechanic shop! Thank you Jack, Alex, David, and co. I’ve brought my vehicles into these guys a ton of times and they are always so friendly and go over everything very thoroughly with me. I honestly feel like I’m part of the family now. LOL
I LOVE that they are honest and tell me things I don’t need to do and that can wait rather than just trying to make a buck. Very kind and friendly staff. They always get the job done. They are hardworking and very fast. We are just in and out a lot of times.
The waiting room has something for everyone also. It has a fair sized candy bowl ;), a coffee and tea station, magazines and books and a chalkboard and toys for the kids.
Every time we come they kindly welcome us and remember us and our names. I always love coming and being greeted with kindness
