Their baked goods, breads/​cakes and Vietnamese sandwiches are quite good. I’ve not tried their dim sum but in response to David M’s 1-​star review based on the bakery serving real shark fin dumplings, these dumplings do not contain real shark fin. The dumpling’s name refers to the shape of the dumpling as it resembles a shark fin and not to what’s in it. This also applies to most dim sum teahouses that serve this dumpling. Real shark fin (even before the boycott) is extremely expensive and would not be served in a $ 3 to $ 4 plate of dumplings. If you don’t believe, read up on it.

Sunshine Bakery had shark fin dumpling on the menu. We asked if was the real thing and he said yes. Shark fin is ILLEGAL in California. We told them that and left. Sharks are being hunted to extinction. Please do not eat shark fin or shark fin soup for Chinese New Years. or ever.
Give sunshine a fins down.

This is my go to place if I’m craving dim sum or a genuinely «good» Vietnamese sandwich. I always get the original sandwich, spicy so they add fresh jalapeños. I’ve always been satisfied with everything it get here. Employees are nice and welcoming too!

Maybe I went on a bad day, and I’ll be willing to admit that, but picking up a bite to eat at the bakery near the bus stop on Friday morning, me and a friend picked up a couple of items. The señorita bread, and a ham and cheese savory. Waiting outside, we found the savory to actually be molded (and actually pointed out molded items inside; it can be overlooked easily enough considering how early we were in), and the señorita bread was very bland… maybe it’s just the pastry, as I’ve not had the chance to have a sandwich or their cooked goods, but it was just an overall bad experience.
I’d be willing to give it another go with some decent recommendations (or perhaps a better time of day), but as of right now, the only thing saving it from a one star rating is the fact that their prices are *really* good. Not enough to justify the quality, but hey; if there’s the right item, I’ll write a second review about the quality of that visit. Here’s hoping!

I love this bakery. I love the people working there more. They were very generous during my visit; there were fresh doughnuts fresh off the oven, and the owners offered me a sample of a whole doughnut to try while I was there. The selections are great and fresh. I will definitely make this a regular stop for any Chinese bakery items.

Excellent if not eclectic Asian bakery. What this place lacks in décor and marketing, they make up with a wide assortment of fresh made foods everyday. Though I would call their pastries Chinese, I am told they consider them Japanese-​style. There is an endless assortment including chocolate, taro, mango and honey dew toast, croissants, breads and sweet cakes. On the counter are a variety of savory items like baked cha siu buns and sesame balls with red bean. On the back counter you’ll find a small selection of dim sum made on site, including chicken and pork shu mai, shrimp har gow, and sticky rice filled with sausage and pork. The portions are generous and they often run out due to popularity. Their banh mi Vietnamese sandwiches and Vietnamese coffee are also considered their specialty. If you did not know about it, this looks like an easy place to pass by, yet is actually a great find for Asian food in the area. Put in a nicer location, I’m certain they’d end up being very popular and more expensive. Worth it to stop by and pick up lunch or desserts for your next gathering.

Great bakery and so many choices. I also ordered birthday cakes for different occasions from here. All were great! Nice people and great selections.

Normally get the dim sum here. Breads are pretty good. Nothing compares to Tao Yuen in Oakland.

Many of my grandmother’s birthday cakes are from here. We always order our cakes from here. The frosting over the cake is just right, because it is not too sweet and you honestly do not get tired of eating it. It is very fluffy and not artificial tasting.
I’ve never ordered food from the place, besides bread and cakes. I’ve tried their moon cakes, and they are very yummy and filling. Also, their bread is really good. The inside of the store is very spacious and there are many chairs and tables.
Also, the service is really kind. This place is located on the side of a street in Vallejo near Seafood City. I would definitely get my cake from here rather than Red Ribbon, because the cakes honestly just taste better and you don’t get tired of eating them!

This place has really gone down.
All of the pastries used to be hot and fresh when you come in first thing in the morning now it just seems they take them out of the fridge to warm to room temperature.
The dim sum is so big and flavorless now. They used to be little morsels of flavor, not anymore.
Guess I will have to make my trips to SF for my dim sum fix.

Two stars because the banh mi sandwhich pork was pretty good. I ordred the shark fin dumpling and beef shumai it was gross it tasted like the frozen ones you get at costco. I was dissapointed that they were out of almost everything on the dumpling and shumai menu. All they had was the shark fin dumpling and beef shumai which was nasty as hell. The women in the front was really nice… Although, it took a while to get my order because of the language barrier.
I think this place has potential to be very busy if they were to stock up on their hot foods and make their business look welcoming. Clear out all those stuff that makes the inside look so cluttered were people can sit and eat. Other then that, id go back for the pork banh mi and some bread.

I went here the other day and the place is totally different than what I remember! Everything is packaged and not the counter with fresh baked pastries sitting on top :(They used to have a few kind of traditional rice pastries, now they just had redbean and when my mom asked to make sure they were still gluten-​free the lady said NO!!! How can a rice dumpling NOT be gluten-​free? They have Disney Store toy sets up by the entrance and so we ended up having to get my daughter one of those. I wanted Asain Pastries not toys!

We have ordered cakes from Sunshine Bakery in the past and have been pretty happy. We came here last Saturday to order a cake for my daughter’s birthday so that I could pick it up today. When I arrived and handed the receipt over, I was told that he didn’t know where my cake was and that he would make it right now but it would be 20 minutes to wait. How do you make a special order cake in 20 minutes when we ordered it 3 days ago? So here I sit, waiting for a cake that was supposed to be ready!
I can’t give this place a really low rating since we’ve been happy with their cakes over the years but I may think twice before we order from here again! Definitely not happy with their service today!

I ordered 5 Vietnamese sandwiches, 2 original and 3 chicken. On the way home it just did not smell right. It had a very sour smell to the pickled dikon and carrots. The bread was toasted but the whole thing was hard like it was stale. The outside was crunchy and so was the inside. In the original the meat was very fatty and jelly like and cold. I think it was defrosted. The chicken was chewy and had no flavor. As for price $ 3.50 is expensive. I guess I have to go to Sacramento or San jose to get great tasting sandwiches.

Great bakery and great prices! My wife prefers their version of the señorita bread and when I ate bread I liked their cream cheese bread, almost as good as my mothers!

Okay I’m really excited to write this review… also because I’m off today and I have the time once again to write one!
Now, I would like to start off by saying…

Okay breathe… re-​group, re-​focus, annnd back to normal… okay 1−2−3 Break!
Now, whenever I start jonesing for some Asian delights whether it be a simple boba milk tea, sweets, or the more complex mango milk tea pudding, and shark fin shu mai I usually have to travel great lengths to get what I really want at a great price, good portions, and great tasting quality. Basically what I’m trying to say is I’m used to all the Asian markets and Asian restaurants this town has to offer me so that’s why I’m usually across the bridge. So when I found out about Sunshine bakery I bee-​lined it over there.
They are located on a main street so their parking is in the back of the bakery. Once there you can admire the local artistry of profanity spray painted on the building, made me giggle a little bit. Any who… once you start heading to the building you can already smell the fresh baked bread they have cooling on racks and when they cool their baked goods they open the back door so you and the whole auto parts store right next to it can smell their awesome baked goods. it just perfumes the air in the most enticing way (also that’s some great advertisment. Bravo…) After you pass that delicious smelling door you will see some cakes that they do as well, wasn’t really paying attention to it but it was cute none the less.
So on with the food =]
I ordered the bbq pork bahn mi, shrimp dim sum, chicken shu mai, and Thai tea (ALL under $ 20). The bahn mi was ON POINT! and its been many a moon since the last time I had a great tasting bahn mi… many, many, moons ago friends… so I’m not going to go into too much detail buuut becuse they make their own breads the baguette alone was just so deliciously flakey and buttery on the outside, and warm and soft on the inside (cue the drool…) The meat and pickled veggies were outstanding as well and definitely calmed my craving. In other words… just come here!
So the dim sum was actually more like a little snack for my ride home and to be honest the dim sum was pretty much OK. Thumbs up on the portions though, but for a real dim sum experience like I’ve said you gotta go across the bridge for that. To wrap up my awesome findings a Thai tea with boba was definitely in order to wet my whistle while I patiently waited for my delicous bahn mi also it gave me time to look around at their baked goods. They had a pretty good selection of breads, pork and red bean filled buns, and cookies to make this little Asian girls heart jump for joy but only if they had my ultimate sweet bread of choice which is the Taro bread… Lets just say this girl was jumpin ;)
Swirls of purple laced in with the sweet bread uggghhh… no words can describe my weakness for this purple sweet thing of goodness! so needless to say I also bought a couple loaves of Taro bread because I’m probably going to eat half of it tonight!
Knowing that this place is still up and running and serving great baked goods, some DAMN GOOD bahn mi’s, and dim sum in my neck of the woods is a great treat, not to mention I get to ease up on my mileage! Like I always say I love supporting local businesses and I will be coming back for more.

The staff is great — when I grab a bag of señorita bread and there’s a fresher batch that just came out of the oven, they switch it out for me. Super sweet!

Doesn’t even deserve to be open! This place was great, we order almost everytime for our family. But today, however we went to pick up my sisters birthday cake and they dont have it ready! We ordered days ago! They expect us to wait 20min without any discount. We tell them to give a discount they refuse then after debating they give us only 10%!!! Sad sad sad. Losing valued customers like us. Never coming back again, I am sure to tell my fam and friends NEVER TO COME HERE! Also this happened on my grandfathers 70^th birthday. They are cheap horrible company. Doesnt even deserve a star! But since I have to to review them 1 star!

I’m new to Vallejo so I’m not sure where to get my dim sum and other Chinese goods fix just quite yet. After driving past this bakery every single morning, I decided to give it a try. It’s between two car shops, so it would be pretty easily missed if it didn’t have a distinct green roof. They sell a variety of the typical Chinese bakery goods (meat, cream cheese, bean, taro, etc. buns), dim sum, boba drinks, and apparently Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches as well. Sunshine apparently delivers baked goods to other markets as well. Most things cost between $ 1-​$ 3, which is typical for these Asian bakeries.
The taro toast was bomb dot com. A real bargain. ~10 thick slices for about $ 3! There are other flavored toasts, but I have a love for all things taro, so I just had to get that one. I’ll be back to try the different toasts (other flavors included: chocolate, egg, pandan/​honeydew (some sort of green)).
I would definitely pass on the dim sum though. The price was okay.$ 2.50 for 3 pieces, but the quality was really low (maybe I’ve been spoiled by having some pretty awesome dim sum in the past). I had the shu mai (which is pretty much one of the staples of dim sum!). They said that it was pork and shrimp, but I didn’t taste ANY shrimp. I would have tried more kinds, but they ran out of everything else!!! By the way, it was only 10AM on a Thursday morning.
I saw a banh mi menu with only two choices. Didn’t look too appetizing. But I’ll try it some time if my banh mi craving gets too bad!
The workers were very unfriendly, but I never walk into an Asian eatery expecting good service or smiles, so it’s okay.

So this place deserves 4-​stars just on the fact that it’s the only Asian bakery in Vallejo! I always drove past this place and didn’t think much of it, but I decided to check it out since I was craving Asian baked goods for the longest time. I’m so glad I stopped by! Although their selection isn’t as huge as some bakeries I’ve been to, what they had fulfilled my cravings. I actually stopped by here a second time just to restock :)
My favorites are their cream cheese, egg custard, taro breads as well as their hotdog & cheese one (sounds weird, but it’s pretty yummy). I decided to try their original Vietnamese sandwich and it was better than I thought. I had low expectations since I always get my Viet sandwiches in Garden Grove & Westminister. It wasn’t great, but wasn’t bad either.
The girl that works there was really friendly, which was a plus and the prices are reasonable. I definitely will be back to stock up on my baked goodies again. Mmm… :)
