I would’ve never ventured to Downtown Vallejo due to all the negative stuff you hear on the news but came down with my sister to support local business and the Art Walk. I must say the art was mostly ‘dark’ meaning not really kid-​friendly as i saw a display of mutilated barbies, neon art in a dark room/​blue light, lots of nudes, and very ‘emotionally charged’ artwork. Though a lot of these artists are very talented and creative… it was just different…
Fortunately, i came across Design by David. I love a store that reuses wood or upcycles! and coincidentally i had been wanting a potting bench and thought one day… oh one day id make one myself using a ‘vintage’ window to use as a backsplash, etc. Hence i have 2 windows sitting in my backyard for the last 6 years…
David had one sitting in front of the store and i was like «i want that» which also made me want to venture into the store to look… awesome creations like benches, kitchen islands, side tables, window boxes and other potting benches. David was great and provided information and helping me to arrange for pickup… such a friendly and talented guy! He does delivery but if you can find that great friend with a truck/​SUV thats the way to go!

David’s shop is wonderful. He is so talented and everything is different no 2 alike. I am so happy with his shop. He makes quality furniture and art.
He is a great guy you can count on to create the really special things you want for your home. He will take an old anything and make something wonderful out of it, I don’t know how he does it.

Design By David makes beautiful furniture out of reclaimed and reused materials. You have to see it. One piece provided storage in a row painted mailboxes! There are a lot of corner tables, end tables and benches. Everything’s one of a kind. I walk into David’s shop, and I like all of it. We bought a great bench for our sunroom with red dry-​brushed surfaces. It is fun, sturdy and functional. I always see things in his showroom that I want to take home, if only I could find a place for all of them. He also features jewelry and art made by others. David will have a consultation with you by appointment and make something to your desire. Go on a Saturday during the Vallejo Farmer’s Market, otherwise by appointment.

I consider Vallejo «home,» having deep roots here through my paternal grandparents from Italy who came here and set up shop as ‘Vallejo Monument Company’ over 60 years ago. I am active in the Vallejo Architectural Heritage Foundation (secretary since 2009) and am a huge proponent of buying local. I love David’s shop. His unique designs are over the top yet simple, a juxtoposition in style and symettry and the «go-​to» spot for finding something unique, no matter what your budget, desire or style. His imagination is boundless. He can take a simple object and turn it into a masterpiece, I kid you not. See for yourself. If you are not completely awestruck by what he does with the scarcest of materials, I don’t think you are of this world. Check him out. You will no doubt walk out with something, I guarantee it.
