Larry was very courteous and professional he saved me over 8 thousand dollars on a new furnace because another company gave me some false information. Larry came out and diagnosed my problem within half an hour and was able to fix it with no parts added, I highly recommend A1 due to the fact that they were very professional and honest with their service and knowledge. We’ve been having issues with our heater and our home warranty company was just not cutting it.
I decided to call A1 as I try to support local, family owned businesses. From the friendly lady who had taken my call, then Kirk (their Sales Rep), Doug who handled our scheduling, John and James; their service technicians, to Louise who handled our documents, everyone was definitely helpful, friendly, accommodating, and professional. I feel they went above and beyond by ensuring we were warm before the new year. Thank you A1.

We called to ask if they can look at the heater at our office. They sent someone out and the guy that looked at it and said it would cost almost $ 900 to fix it and it costs the same to replace the whole thing!!! We said no way!!! That’s too much!!! He said he would do fix it for $ 600 and then down to $ 500. Umm No!!! So he said they charge $ 99 just for them for coming to look at it. Which they claim they told us over the phone, but they did not.

We bought a 27 yo house that had a working furnace for 2 weeks when we first moved in. Something burned out and it stopped working. I called home Warranty who sent another company out a week later for a warranty service call. That guy told us there was nothing he could do because the furnace was cracked and rusted and we would need a new one. Home Warranty did not want to pay for replacement because the furnace is 27 yo and the expected life is 20 yrs.
Long story short, I called for a 2^nd opinion and got A-​1. They sent Tony (great honest guy) the tech out and he inspected the furnace and said it was just the burned out control board and there were NO cracks whatsoever and it would work fine but replacement should be expected down the line. He replaced the burnt out part and modified it with an online fuse so it won’t blow the board again.
On top of all that, the price was very reasonable and I would not hesitate to use them again, like when the furnace actually breaks and will definitely need replacement, these guys will be the first one I will call!

I’ve been smelling gas in the garage on and off for a few months now and just last night noticed no hot water due to the water heater pilot light out. After multiple attempts the light would not stay lit. The gas smell was very potent near the main valve so we evacuated the home immediately! Called PG&E out and they found multiple gas leaks in the main valve connected to the water heater installed by A-​1. Not only did the thermal couple go out but the sense of urgency when called this morning was horrible. Even after I left a detailed message before these people opened my wife called multiple times to follow up. Within the last year or so I have not seen any savings on my bill and now I think I know why. 3 hours later from my initial call STILL NO RESOLUTION even when there’s GAS involved! Not to mention this unit is only a year old!

I called them to get a quick quote comparison and they were honest and very helpful in both indicating the price I got was fair and then asking which companies to ensure I was working with good companies. Way above and beyond my expectations!

When our 16 year old AC died in July with temperatures in the 90’s to 100’s, we turned to A-​1 for a solution. Kirk, the estimator/​evaluator, was friendly & professional. The entire team (Mark, Joe, Jose & John) were easy to work with. We ended updating an entire home energy upgrade. A-​1 arranged for a loan: 0% if paid off in 12months. They also helped us with the energy upgrade rebates of about $ 3K. I highly recommend this company for HVAC work.

We’ve had 2 HVAC repairs from A1 within the past year; one for heating and one for AC. Both repairs appear to have been done well and to our satisfaction. The tech was prompt, courteous, and professional. Why only 2 stars? This spring we had an energy upgrade specialist from A1 give us an analysis and an estimate for new heating and AC units and tankless water heater. The analysis went nicely; I learned a lot and the tech was thorough. The problems arose after we received our estimates. Using the same information (brand names, model numbers, etc.) as written on our estimate, I did my own research. What I found was, with very rare exception, that the equipment used by A1 has received overwhelming negative ratings both by customers and by independent rating agencies. This was true for both HVAC units and the tankless water heater. If that wasn’t discouraging enough, the prices quoted for the equipment were about twice as expensive as other sources. I emailed my concerns to the energy upgrade specialist and, except for receiving a more readable format for the document, got absolutely NO response at all regarding our concerns. No response=no money from me.

I bought my house in October 2014 at which time, my AC worked fine. In March 2015 my AC was no longer was working. Now, if anyone has bought a home, you know that warranties do not transfer with ownership. This company transfers warranties! My AC was fixed under warranty and I have another year under warranty. AC broke due to rodent not A1 workmanship.

Needed some minor repairs done right away for my water heater and A/​C. Called at 8am, and Matt came at 9:30am. He was professional, knowledgable, and got the job done by 11am. Very happy with the work, time frame, and price. Would definitely recommend A-​1 to others.

I needed a complete duct change and appreciated doing business with this company. It’s been about a year and I STILL am glad I did the work! They were not pushy, they were reasonably priced with various options to offer and they did a great job. Heat and air work great now! I would use them again

I have used A-​1 for several projects in a 1930’s vintage property in the Montclair area of Oakland. The home is all electric and we had a heat-​pump control service issue that they diagnosed and repaired with Larry W.
Our latest project was to install a 5-​room ductless mini-​split system (two outdoor units) to only heat these rooms as needed and add heat where it did not exist, and supplement existing heat pump where inadequate. The new unit made it possible to warm the large high ceiling living room that was difficult to heat thus increasing comfort when needed. As the windows are older, using the heat only when using the room and being able to heat quickly is a major improvement.
They did this significant job efficiently and addressed an issue a month after install and adjusted outdoor unit position to address a concern I had about the original install. They also added insulation to accessible areas, though the attic had old wiring, making adding insulation not permissible in that area. They do their work to codes and kept all their promises and addressed my concerns.

A1 Heating Guaranteed made (2) seperate visits. The service was professional and I was satisfied with their work. Upfront with what you need and options suggested for other things. I called and made an apointnent. On the 1^st visit, «Garrett» a service technician called a couple of hours prior to his scheduled appointment to inform me he would be coming. Upon his arrival, he went straight to the problem. He figured out it was a faulty switch but he wanted to make sure that it was the only problem. He asked if I would mind looking at what he discovered. (Now as I’m not the most technological guy) Garrett began explaining in basic terms as to what he found wasn’t working. He said it would need replacing but the part would have to be mailed out from the manufacturer. After confirming that my pressure switch was the root cause of my problem, Garrett informed me that today’s charge would be $ 78. I anticipated my cost to be a lot more but was wrong. Garrett further explained what costs were necessary and how much would be required if he was to return with part and installation. While Garrett explained what the problem was he also pointed out that I owned a «2-​stage» heater. He explained that my thermostat was a basic system but was not allowing my system to properly operate thus not allowing me to be energy efficient. Garrett suggested that I replace the thermostat that should have been used when I had the AC/​Heater installed 10 years ago. I didn’t feel pressured as Garrett only suggested this change. Of course it would be an additional cost unexpected. I thought about it and decided to change out my thermostat so I could just have a piece of mind. And so a. 2^nd visit to replace parts were made. I only paid for the visit and that was a mere $ 78 that I only had to pay. No added fees or deposit required. Garrett infirmed me what the cost would be once it arrives.
Garrett again had called an hour before arriving. He mentioned that he was done from a previous appointment and wanted to come by. I told him I wasn’t home yet but would be on my way. No problem. Garrett arrived about the same time that I did. He said for me to take my time to settle in.
Garrett performed the repair and replacement thoroughly all the while explaining each details as to what he found not working and what the new parts would do. Garrett completed his task within an hour.
I am satisfied with the work and service by A1 Heating Guaranteed and by the professional service of Garrett. I would call these guys again, (hopefully not too soon) but if necessary. I recommend at least calling A1 Heating Guaranteed among any other heating companies if you are gonna compare. Great service. No hidden costs. Upfront and honest.

Professional, Prompt, Polite, Capable & Informative in layman’s terms are just a few of the well deserved accolades I have for this company. I called for the first time and the person on the phone was not only personable but was also empathetic towards my particular situation. Then the technician came. His name was Tony and I was so surprised that a technician with his good manners, professional approach coupled with being well groomed, was going to fix my problem I had with my HVAC. I felt as if I had hit the jackpot and that my problem would be resolved that very day. It was, and I must send kudos to the company for hiring someone as Tony. I have to say that this is one of the most exploitive companies I’ve ever dealt with as a home owner. They installed my heater and an air conditioner about 6 years ago. Neither worked very efficiently and a technician came out and told me that it you can’t turn on the air conditioner in the middle of a hot day during and expect it to cool the house down until the next day. This turned out to be patently false as after I had my duct work replaced, the cooling system cools in 10 minutes. He did say that I needed new duct work under the house (which was true). He gave me a quote for the duct work and I eventually had it done by another company for $ 800 less than the amount A-​1 Guarantee quoted me!
During the course of working with this company, I had one occasion to call them because the air conditioner went out. It turned out it was a small fuse that I could have easily replaced myself had they told me about it, either at the time of installation or when I called about the problem. Yesterday my entire heating and cooling system went out. I called them and they wanted to send out a technician (probably a $ 100 expense) but I quickly discovered that it was dead BATTERIES in the living room control unit, which they had installed. When they install items, they don’t bother to inform the buyer that there are simple things the home owner can do to maintain the equipment and avoid high repair bills, like replace a fuse or battery. When you call with a problem, they immediately want to send a technician to your house without suggesting that you check the fuse or battery first.
I cannot discourage consumers enough to avoid this company at all costs.

I think everyone else pretty well covers it: they do what they say, they charge reasonably, they do quality work, they take responsibility for their work. Oh, and they’re really nice people and a family-​owned company.
We had them replace the duct work in our attic, which ended up involving asbestos removal and lots of work for rebates. They made it all easy and everything was good. No complaints, and that is distressingly rare with contractors, in my opinion.
I could go on, but that ought to be enough for ya.

WHAT AN OUTSTANDING COMPANY!!! I cannot say enough great things about
A-​1. My A/​C decided not to work on the hottest day of the year here in Vallejo, so I decided to do some diagnostic work on my own. When that didn’t work, I went down to A-​1 with what I thought was my faulty part. When I arrived, I was greeted by a friendly and helpful staff that really took the time to help me with my A/​C concern. After getting back home and installing the part that I though was bad, it still didn’t work. So I called the service manager back and he walked me through the process of getting the system restarted. They spent so much time with me and never made me feel rushed or that I was bothering them. Absolutely TOP NOTCH service. I will go back to them without a doubt next time I have an HVAC concern. More businesses could learn from the OUTSTANDING customer service from A-​1. If you need HVAC repair and you live within the greater Vallejo area, you have to go nowhere other than A-​1. Thanks again to Jeanie and her crew for taking such good care of me. My house is cooling off nicely and I can hear my A/​C unit working perfectly in my yard. Oh and my better half, 4 dogs, and guinea pig thank you as well!

These guys are the cream of the crop. Our house was built in 1986 and still had the original compressor. It was under sized for the house, and would run hours on end to cool the house 3 degrees if we were lucky. Being a very dry year and our house that is in direct sunlight at all hours of the day, it was getting very hot. I finally convinced my wife to allow me to contact someone. That’s when I called A-​1.
I ended up having a day off of work coming up so I scheduled an appointment. Larry «The Comfort Guy» Waters was sent to my house for the initial quote. After the initial assessment he told me I needed to replace the duct work along with the compressor. Initially shocked he ran through the numbers and said I would have needed a 3 ton unit for my 1100 sq-​ft house with current ducting, and expect about a 15−20% loss. He then went over what I could expect after, less than 5% loss, and would only need a 2 ton unit. Included in my quote was a Emerson Sensi smartphone controllable thermostat and re-​insulation of the attic. Because of all the work I would have done, I also qualified for a generous rebate from PG&E. Also come to find out that there are only 2 contractors in the entire Bay Area qualified for the rebate program. A-​1 in one of them.
It was finally time for the install to start. I knew that it would probably take 2 days for the work to be done. They showed up the first day with maybe 5 guys, and practically knocked it all out in the first day. Then next day was going to be a short one, but there were some issues with the house from when it was built, and this is where they really stood out to me. They ended up sealing my interior garage door, replacing light switch plates, and installed foam gaskets in them. They included smoke alarms, and carbon monoxide alarms… all for no additional charge. My house is now safe, more efficient, and practically air tight.
I couldn’t have asked for this to have gone any better. They worked around my schedule and got the work done quickly. They were polite, professional, and courteous throughout the process. I will definitely be doing business with them again.
