Union City Farmers’ Market

Lots of variety in produce and stands. I like that they have the stuff to cater to a more diverse crowd (read, ethnic) — bok choy, dark green veggies, and lots of peanuts. The prices are fair. I don’t think every stand is organic, but It’s nice to support the community and to have the ambiance of a bustling farmers market

I’ve lived in Ardenwood for 20 years and now in Union city for 6 months and I’m just discovering this farmers market! It’s just fabulous! The vegetables and fruits are all so fresh and locally grown. Most of the prices are comparable to foodmaxx but the quality is better, especially the peaches! I love supporting local farms even if it means spending a bit more but you know that you are getting fresh produce without the grocery wax coating. There are tons of vendors with different varieties. I’m so happy to have found okra and Indian green beans at a farmers market!

Been here several times. WHile it isn’t the biggest Farmers’ Market, it does have quality and selection. Would recommend it anytime someone can make it there.

Come by to support local farms! This place is awesome and the vendors work super hard to provide the freshest produce. They have organic produce also! I love the fresh eggs… super delicious and the chickens are raised in Manteca!
They have strawberries, large selection of organic and non organic, eggs, honey, desserts, oranges, pies, kettle corn, grilled meat, seafood and more!
I highly recommend checking it out!

Good bargain of vegetables, fruits and more. Theres also a BBQ and ready food to go. Seafood like fish, squid and shrimp is also available

I’ve been coming to this farmers market ever since I was a little kid, and it hasn’t really changed much! All of the vendors are really nice, and are willing to make deals with you if you’re buying a lot from them. Definitely recommend buying from the egg farm booth, Hummus Heaven, and from the booth that sells fresh pastries and bread. Good product at good price! Sad to see that the churro guy wasn’t there though. Those were the best.

Lots of different farmer and people, reasonable price for veggies and other food. Lot of sample too. Every thing is fresh and nice.

Great community gathering for everyone, especially families. I wish they allowed dogs, but I completely understand they they are not allowed because the health safety aspect.
I have been coming to this market for years with my family. I loved going to the market especially during the summer because they have a live band that plays until noon.
This market truly has it all: kettle corn, fresh veggies, pastries, hummus to FARM FRESH EGGS! If you really want to challenge someone or make a house party really memorable stop by the egg lady’s stand for some Balut ;P
Balut comes in either chicken or duck form. A Balut is an egg that has been incubated and now has a baby chick inside, basically a fertilized egg-​an Asian delicacy.
This market opens as early as 7:30a-8a. It runs until about 1 – 1:30p. If you need leafy green veggies, it’s best that you come early for veggies because they tend to sell out really early.
The only down fall about this market is the parking. There is not a designated parking lot nearby. There is only street parking along the park where the market is located.
Come early or towards the end f the market because parking is hard to find during peak, busy hours.

The community here reminded me of the homeland. The produce choices were very catered to the types of dishes you or your mom would make at home. I was quite surprised when I visited last weekend here. The plus+
–parking locations are easy and plenty
–friendly town
–beautiful people
–reasonable prices
–great homeland finds like even Balot and malunggay!
–authentically new: Filipino flavor macaron!

I love this place! I’ve started planning my weeks’ schedules around coming here.

Two parks/​play structure in the Farmers Market (for toddlers and big kids).
Lots of shade trees.
Only place I’ve ever found free range chicken and duck balut! Never seen this in 43 years! Awesome.
Go the back way up Union City Blvd and avoid the traffic. There’s a parking lot a short block away.

A quick run through the market… grabbed some: strawberries really sweet & juicy, Okra (very good Price) very tender. Giant red onions, and tender bok Choy; made my day. Now I’m eating a delicious pot of food.

Three! Three organic vendors now! (thunder/lightning…Ah.ah…ahhhhhh!)
All the regular vendors are great, they have been watching my kids grow and they chide me when I am gone for a weekend or two. The organic vendors have largely the same thing, and at the same price. But the quality varies, so you can get the best of what you want just by popping in to both.
There is a pastry vendor now, and a honey vendor. The produce is fresh and reasonably priced (ask for a deal!). We are always there early, before the heat and sun cause the stuff to wilt. By afternoon, things are a little «sad» looking.
Another Unilocaler commented that the vendors at Peninsula farmer’s markets give away produce for the class pets, but not in Union City? Each week, I take home a huge bag of culls («throw away») produce each week for my chickens. Maybe she didn’t ask nicely? :)
Anyway, I’m happy with the selection and the vendors and the prices. :)

The worst farmers market I’ve ever been to. Its very small with very limited produce… mostly Asian veggies. The vendors are not friendly, the produce is over priced (considering most of it was wilted), and only one organic seller.
Both San Carlos and Redwood City have wonderful markets. Lots to choose from, smiling faces, live music, stuff for kids, etc etc. I am a science teacher with a few class pets. Most vendors at both the San Carlos and Redwood City markets will give away produce they would otherwise be throwing out at the end of the day. The Union City vendors are so damn cheap and selfish none would part with so much as a green friggin’ bean.
I wonder if demographics play a role? Lot more Asian over in Union City.
There was one vendor though… free range organic eggs… very nice guy! Will have to find him at another market as there is no way I’ll ever spend my money at the Union City Farmers Market again!

*The produce selection is better than the Castro Valley Farmers Market, but not as good as the Hayward Farmers market. Will update after I’ve done to a few more markets.
*Cheap Organic Produce. There was 1 organic produce tent that had produce for ½ the price as the organic vendors at the Berkeley farmers markets and they weren’t snooty about it either (also unlike the Berkeley organic farmers markets).
*There really Isn’t many food trucks to speak. Of. For that you need to go to the Castro Valley Farmers market.
*There is a pastry vendor there that bakes their own chocolate chip cookies for $ 1 each. Definitely worth getting one while you are wandering around.
*I did not have this fabled kettle corn that everyone talks about, but it did smell amazing.

Come here for a true bargain!
The fruits and veggies are more fresh and affordable than your local grocery stores. I look forward to coming here every Saturday morning. It is packed with crazy shoppers who may excessively eat samples, get territorial and bump into you left and right. I admit, I get a little wild about the samples and 5lbs/​$ 5 deals, too.
The secret is to avoid the stands you immediately see in the front. My recent strategy has been to hit up all the stands in the back. The deals are just as good or even better. Some vendors will even add a couple items for free, just cause.

This is a great way to spend a lazy Saturday morning and support the local small businesses. Don’t forget a stop at Paddy’s which is kitty corner from the market.
This is a small farmer’s market with stands for things you would expect like fruits and veggies. They also have oysters, kettle corn and my favorite funnel cake. They just added a Napa evvo and salad dressing stand. I hope they do well and I bought some bottles from there to show support. I always make a stand at the hummus stand, the guy is funny.
They have live music in the sumer which is a nice add.

What’s not to like about buying fresh fruit, veggies and flowers at a bargain rate? If you can swing yourself out for ½ hour to this outdoor market, you’ll definitely be doing yourself a favor.

Bring out your bargaining skills… almost everything is negotiable. As for myself, I got there when they started closing up and was able to pick up zucchini’s, flower bunches and plums. I got to bargain down all the prices and my Chanel wallet wins! I have left over money in it still :)

Serious veggie action going on at this market. I recommend going early at 9 am and park down the street at the elementary school. The produce was fresh and very good. Everything we tried was delicious and worth buying.
The only thing I didn’t see were vendors selling more baked goods. There was one guy selling loaves of jalepeno cheese bread. He wasn’t getting many buyers. I bought a loaf out of sympathy for him. Yikes, it was $ 8.50 a loaf.
This famers market is more pricey than others that I have gone too. If you’re looking for deals you’ll have to look hard. For me I think the fresh veggies were worth the extra cost. I see it as paying for quality.

Union City Farmers Market is situated in Old Alvarado Park at Smith & Watkins.
