This place is so hidden, you have to crane your neck out of your car window to even get a glimpse of it as you drive by. I’m sure people have been driving past this place for years without ever noticing it. I had to have it pointed out to me. It’s in a very unsuspecting place, in an office complex of some sort, surrounded by, I don’t know what, a dental office maybe, or an accounting office. That’s how much this office complex stands out. It says Niles Pie Company in front and I still thought it was maybe the corporate office of some pie distributor.
Lucky for me, I did see it and made a point to go inside. What a hidden gem. It’s a café where they’re endlessly baking pastries, sweet and savory pies, breads, home made pop tarts (!), quiches, muffins, you name it. They have tables, wifi, and a Carl Sagan quote up on the wall. I mean did I just die and go to the cosmos?
I got a small coconut cream pie and strawberry pop tart and both were delicious. Had I more time and extra calories to burn, I would’ve tried many more things on the menu. It’s not just baked goods here, there are also a variety of salads on the menu.

Been here 4 times every time the pie crust is very dry, some times edges are hard. The fillings are just ok. Pastries are a hit or miss. Nothing memorable

Well, someone reported my last review over a month after I wrote it… haha! I don’t know what was offensive about enjoying a nice dinner at a nice local business. It was reported that my experience was not in line with the typical consumer. I don’t know what else to say besides: please visit Niles Pie website because in addition to pies and pastries, they host cooking classes and family style, farm to table dinners. The dinner we went to last month was sea to table, featuring sustainably caught, local, fish. Along with a marvelous puff pastry dessert, all made in-​house. Whether this was a typical consumer experience or not, it is indicative of what an excellent local business this is, serving high quality food to consumers and making sure they all leave with a smile on their face. Please, Unilocalians, don’t delete this review. I’m being honest and trying to inform you of what else this business has to offer! Yes, to the typical consumer.

I’ve tried many more items since my love affair with the pie and the best item is the strawberry pop tart. The Nutella one was too sweet and the pastry actually tasted different. As for everything else, they fillings are good but the dough is just too buttery. It ends up being a bit greasy and it hurts my stomach.

I loveee pie so I was excited when my friend took me here. From the outside, it’s in a really random location in an industrial park. There’s a variety of sweet and savory pies, pop tarts and small pastry pies (forget what they were called).
I got a small potato and cheddar pastry pie and a mini blueberry-​blackberry pie to go.
The potato and cheddar pastry pie was $ 3.85 and quite tasty! It’s a good snack for a reasonable price.
I thought the mini blueberry-​blackberry pie at $ 9 was a little overpriced. The ingredients were good quality and the filling very smooth. I am used to crust a little more crumbly and my filling more textured but overall, it was very well-​made and tasty!

Hate to give this place a low review because I was really excited to see a place dedicated to pies. They have a variety of really interesting pies, but the main reason for the low review is the crust — It tastes like baked clay and I literally had to use a fork and butter knife to cut through the crust to simply have a bite.
I’m used to pies with a flaky crust or with graham cracker crusts. If they were to make these types of crusts, the pies would be amazing!
The pie fillings are great, however, but the cost of a small pie ($ 9) isn’t worth it. I’d rather get a pie from Black Bear diner or Safeway.
Please change your pie crusts. Until then, I won’t be going back :-(

Yummy! I love this place for their freshly made savoury and sweet pies. The crusts are always so nice and flaky, yet moist. They have soups, you can eat in and even borrow a book to read while you’re here. The owner is a total sweetheart, for that alone we should support this great locally owned business.

Not where you think you will find a pie shop. It’s on Alvarado Niles in an industrial business park. It’s a great little store as there are tables for you to sit at when you walk in if you would like to eat there.
I came in for the Carmel Apple Pie because that sounds amazing. They had already sold out. I guess I really can’t blame them. I did get there an hour before they closed on Saturday and they are closed on Sunday.
I did purchase two items though because I didn’t want to leave empty handed.
I bought a small Brown Butter Brandy Walnut Pie: Local walnuts in the same brown butter brandy custard as our pecan pie, with a little vanilla, orange, and cinnamon. It had great flavor, just wasn’t for me. If those items are something you love, then you will love this. I am not big on pecan pie so I feel like I shouldn’t be rating this pie. If you love pecan you will love this.
Nutella Pop Tart: Who said pop tarts are for kids. I love pop tarts as an adult. Another thing I love, is Nutella. So why not combine them? The pop tart was nice and flakey. The Nutella adds a nice smooth flavor to it as well. I am a huge fan of this!
I will be back because I want to try this Carmel Apple Pie. However I will stop in on occasion for the pop tarts as well.

because it would be even more fantastic if they offered more coffee options. Coffee and baked goods, in my book, go hand in hand. Imagine if they had an espresso machine and tea options. But, I will say the coffee that they do serve is simple but delish. No complaints!
This spot is a local nugget! I’ve seen them at farmer’s markets in the past and I’ve visited the store a couple of times now. Consistently, they have produced some of the most amazing and well baked goodies.
I’ve picked up quiches, pastries, cookies, pasties, and such when I’ve encountered them. I’m a little snobby when it comes to loving my baked goods and really prefer only the best (as compared to those manufactured for the average grocery store). For my local area, I think they bake up some of the best!
If I had had an American grandma (my Chinese grandma was wickedly talented in the kitchen), I would imagine her kitchen would have created goodies like NPC. And I would have sat on a stool right next to her watching her roll dough and absorb the scent of baked butter streaming past my nose. YOM!

Excellent Pie!
I am not even a pie person but the BlackBerry blueberry pie was so delicious! It was not too sweet or too tart.
I brought this to a family gathering. I may not be a pie person but the rest of my family certainly are. I brought over the BlackBerry blueberry pie and the BlackBerry Apple pie. I was told that it was a good season to have blackberries. There was not a single complaint although it was pretty quiet for a split second while everyone was scarfing it down. Everyone was mesmerized, they don’t make pies like this anymore. Definitely my go to pie place from now on.
Location: if you haven’t read the other reviews about how the location is a bit discreet, let me tell you, you wouldn’t know there was a bakery here if you didn’t find it on Unilocal or through word of mouth. I’m hoping they do not rely on their storefront for business and that they distribute to restaurants. Because I would love for them to stay open forever!
The pie: pie crust was flakey. Filling was gooey and you could still chew tiny pieces of the berries. The blueberry pie had a crumb crust over that was delightfully crumbly and flavorful.

So close, but just tried it recently.

I was told about Niles Pie Co. from some families who come into my Chiropractic office. My boyfriend and I had to try it! We were pleasantly surprised by the variety of items they have. The ham and cheese croissant is amazing and my favorite is the blueberry cheese danish. The pies are great too! It is a little expensive, but i think you are paying for the quality. The place is not much as far as decorations and stuff, but they are always holding community events which I think is fantastic! I would recommend Niles Pie Co. to anyone in Union City for some quality and delicious treats.

I’ve been here a few times and usually like all their food. I ordered the chocolate chess pie for New Years and it was very well made, not too sweet, very chocolate-​y just how I like it. I also had their white chocolate raspberry tart and even though I am not a white chocolate fan, this tart was delicious. I recently ordered the more famous black and blueberry pie for a work event, the size looks small but it was very filling and full of berries, however I found it to be extremely sweet. I couldn’t eat more than a single slice which was a first for me. I plan on trying some of the savory pies soon! The popular pies sell out fast so make sure to call in advance for availability.

I love their concept of using local and organic produce whenever possible. I’ve tried a lot of their baked goods, and they have been yummy enough to suit my Asian taste — not super sweet, and the pastries feel heavy and solid in hand, compared to the airily light weight things in Asian bakeries. And I feel comfortable enough to feed my kid the yummies I buy from Niles Pie Company, and he absolutely loves them.

My brother picked up two pies from here for our Christmas Eve dinner and man, they’re so good that they blow Pie Hole in LA out the water! Their mexican chocolate pie and the pumpkin chocolate pie are a sure shot! I wished I was closer!

ZOMG– delicious baked goods can be found here! I’ve had Niles Pie Company on my bookmarks for a while now, and finally had the chance to swing by recently. They are located in an industrial park area, so I was concerned that they had the wrong addresses listed, but keep following your Waze/​Google Maps instructions and you will be rewarded! I came in around 11:30am on a Saturday and it wasn’t packed, but had a steady stream of people coming in and out. They had already sold out of their chocolate croissants by then, and maybe some other items, so definitely come early for their full selection (Menu– 10.10.15,
). I tried:
–Black & Blueberry Pie (6″/$ 9.50,
): Yum, this was so good! I loved their crust and the crumb topping, and this pie wasn’t overly sweet. The combination of blackberry and blueberry was delicious– highly recommended!
–Brown Butter Apple Turnover (
): Wow– this was super buttery, but really really good. The turnover crust was perfect, and I loved the complex taste of the brown butter apple filling– a must order!
–Blackberry Blossom (
): Delicious– it’s blackberries wrapped in flaky pastry, and I loved the flakiness of the pastry. Highly recommended!
–Almond Croissant (
): Just ok, and the least favorite item out of everything we tried. The pastry was too dense for my liking, and the almond filling needed to be a bit sweeter.
My only complaint is that I wished they had mini versions of the custard pies, since I really wanted to try them but didn’t want to purchase an entire pie. However, I will definitely be back to try more of their baked goods! Parking is easy since there is plenty of parking in the lot.

I love supporting your local mom and pop shops and for sure want to see these guys thrive. You walk in and you can tell everything is made with love. I purchased a pumpkin and apple pie as well as a potato and cheese roll. Tasted great, you can seriously taste the freshness in not only the filling but also the crust. My entire family enjoyed the pie.
The only down side is that we didn’t finish the pies the day I purchased and by the third day it when bad (it was in the frig). It’s about $ 19.50 each for the larger pies and I assume there’s no preservatives in the pie.
As a tip, finish your pie the day you get it, the the next day or just get the smaller size. I’d totally go back again and try out their other goodies. I really want to try their chicken pot pie. Great pie shop, doesn’t have Costco prices but you’re paying for some great tasting, local, non preservative (I hope) pie.

I have relatives in the area and was surprised to see a pie shop in the middle of a business park so thought I’d give it a try. The shop itself is big and it seems like the hold classes there on occasion. There’s a table in the back corner and some seating but I think this is mainly a take home kind of thing. Also the service is really nice which is always great. Anyways…
I ordered quite a few things: the ham & swiss croissant, the bread pudding, the chocolate walnut puddle, and the steak and gorgonzola pie. I haven’t tried the pie yet since it’s a take-​home freezer pie so I’m waiting to eat it but I’ve tried enough at this point.
1) Ham & Swiss croissant: I always have to order one when I see it. It’s an addiction and to be honest these are hard to mess up. They didn’t mess it up exactly but the tried to class it up but it just didn’t quite work out. The ham is cubes instead of slices which looks a lot nicer and the actual quality of the ham is better but it just doesn’t have the same… mouth feel. If that makes any sense. It’s still good but just wasn’t what I was looking for. The croissant itself is flaky but a bit on the thicker side. Toasting it definitely helped. (³⁄₅)
2) Bread pudding: I love a good bread pudding. It gives me warm happy feelings so of course I had to order one. I can’t even remember the full name of the bread pudding and eating it didn’t help because everything about it was so non-​distinct. The texture was good but it literally just kind of left you with slightly sweetened soft bread. The taste is barely there and it just didn’t give me those happy holiday feelings. (²⁄₅)
3) Chocolate Walnut Puddle: Definitely my favorite item. Though to be honest it’s basically a brownie with a pie crust. When I first got it it looked like/​felt like a hockey puck. I threw it in the microwave for a minute or two to help it along and it really softened up nicely. The crust itself is slightly flaky but just plain thick more than anything else. The inside is a delicious chocolate walnut brownie. It’s ooey gooey and chocolatey. It just didn’t need that pie crust holding it back. (⁴⁄₅)
Overall I didn’t hate anything but between the price and the quality, I just don’t think it’s worth it. But I still prefer the items here over a lot of places so it’s definitely worth a shot especially if you don’t mind some thicker pie crusts.

I have been on a quest for some good pie lately so when I came across Niles Pies, the reviews had me hopeful. It’s a small place in an odd location (business park) but if the pies are good, who cares? I bought a Carmel Apple, and a Blueberry/​Blackberry pie plus 2 lemon poptarts and 2 apple poptarts. It’s clear the pies are fresh. The smaller versions of the apple pie were baking when I arrived.
Crust — disappointing. It was too thick and not flaky.
Filling — Ok but nothing special.
Poptarts — Maybe by definition a poptart doesn’t have a lot of filling but there was too much crust for the amount of filling in my opinion.
My search continues…

OMG! This is the worst place to purchase a pie!
Very very pricy, $ 20.00 for a pie which I only paid $ 10.95 at COCO’s. This place charge $ 10 plus for a very small pie.
I purchased for the first time from Niles pie company, because COCO’s bakery and Resturant move to SAN Jose and the pie tested so bad! It was a apple/​caramel pie, but the apple was not baked or cooked.
And tested sour like wasn’t fresh.
If u care about your health and your pocket please don’t buy your pie, especially your thanksgiving pie from this place!

My friend bought me a blackberry and blueberry pie from here and it was so delicious. $ 9.50 for a «medium» which is about 6″ and can feed 4 people. It’s pretty tiny so I’d go with a large if you want to have extra slices, because you will most likely want to.
The crust isn’t flakey but it’s not too firm and still buttery. Great balance of sweet and tart with the berries. You can taste the freshness and I like that they do make certain pies based on the seasonality of the fruits.
The best thing is that you can order online and pick up at a number of farmers markets around the Bay. Or you could just stop by and get what they have on hand.

This review is solely for the «pop tart» I recently had from Niles Pie.
Like Dang. That pop tart should have a different name because it’s usually associated with gross, processed garbage. That is not what Niles Pie sells.
The pop tart (strawberry) is fresh, I could really taste the strawberry filling (as in it didn’t just taste like super sweet sugar). The outside pastry was warm and flaky!
Go eat it. Don’t buy boxes of Pop Tarts anymore, get them from Niles.

Quiches!!! You must try the quiche. I honestly haven’t tried their sweet pies, I’m more of a savory person, but I’m sure they’re just as great.
But back to the quiche– the filling is fluffy and delicious. Not dense like other quiches. Fresh ingredients, yummy crust. I’m in love.

I’ve tried a few of the items from here now and sadly they didn’t live up to be all that I expected given the number of rave reviews. They have a stall at the Livermore Farmers Market on Thursday’s which makes it easier for us that live in the very far reaches of East Bay to get our hands on their products.
Given that I am actually from England and grew up eating Pasty’s I had to get a couple for myself and my Husband thinking that I will have the delicious buttery flaky crust and full of flavor savory filling I was accustomed to yet in reality everything was just really lacking. The crust I found to be dry and on the bland side and the filling (Cheese and Potatoes) was much the same with no real presence of spices. (

I love this place. Their pies are great. The savory ones leave a little to be desired, but the dessert pies are awesome: Apple, berry, banana cream, etc. Forget Marie Callender’s, come here instead. Is Marie Callender’s even around anymore?
The best part. Let’s say you want a pie, but not a pie. They have homemade Pop Tarts: Apple, lemon, strawberry, Nutella, etc for $ 4 each. They are awesome.

I love pie, its my favorite over ice cream, cupcakes, pastries, etc.
I never knew this place existed until my son’s girlfriend brought my daughter a pie.
My wife wanted a pie for mothers so we visited the store/​bakery in Union City. I was overwhelmed with all the different pies savory and sweet.
The lady who was helping us was very patient and helpful describing all the different pies and the flavor profiles.
We went home with the black and blue pie, meyer lemon pie, chicken and chorizo empanada, beef and potato empanada, and a pistachio tart.
Everything was absolutely delicious! Oh darn I have a list of pies from their menu I have to try.

12÷22÷14: Their pies are still amazingly delicious, but now, they’ve added biscuits that you can take and bake at home… omgee, hella good. My son loves their apple pie.
I love the convenience of ordering online and going later to pick them up. Never had a problem.

I’ve been meaning to try this place for quite some time and finally got an opportunity and am very happy I found the time. As you walk into this quaint little place, you can’t help but get lost with all the various choices at your disposal. I let several people go in front of me as I decided what to order. The staff were very patient and answered all the questions my wife and I had. We decided to order a variety of things, since we wanted to try so many options.
We ordered the small Meyer Lemon Strawberry and Caramel Apple pies. We took these home to enjoy and both were very good. We also ordered the Cheddar Potato and Beef and Potato pastries. I personally thought the Cheddar and Potato was better, but both pastries were stuffed with a lot of filling.
Also decided to order a Meyer Lemon, Strawberry and Nutella Chocolate Pop Tarts. These will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth.
Lastly, we purchased a Steak & Stout and Chicken Pot Pies that we cooked today for lunch. My only disappointment was that I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie and to my surprise when I cut into it, I found-​out it was a Veggie Pot Pie instead. Regardless, both pot pies were good, so I guess I’ll have to go back to try the Chicken Pot Pie some other time. That is fine, since I also need to try the Chocolate Chess Pie too.
