I don’t typically do Unilocal posts, but I felt compelled to shout out Elite Bakery. Ken @ Elite Bakery in Union City is incredibly talented! He made the most amazing cake for my son who is a YouTuber. He spent hours recreating a figure from a picture then finished the cake off with flair. It is so awesome we don’t want to eat it, lol. If u want a truly special cake then go to Elite!

I have ordered a few times from Elite Bakery and they never disappoint! My godchild’s 1^st Communion cake was not only beautiful it was delicious. I got so many compliments. Thanks again Elite Bakery!

I ordered a half sheet cake the day of and they were able to accommodate the order and it was perfect! I got so many compliments on my choice, the guava cake was moist and soft and tasted great, everyone loved the icing they used!
Lol I just didn’t realized how larger a half sheet was, the employee working was so so nice and saw that I was all dressed up to go somewhere, so she carried the cake to my car and set it inside. Awesome place to order cakes.

Came here over the weekend to satisfy my sweet tooth and cupcake cravings. Ended up going with the guava cupcake and mango cupcake. Both were really delicious! The only thing I would say is that I wish the cupcakes were a bit more moist and fluffy — but the flavors were definitely there. Their guava cupcake definitely is their breadwinner here. Definitely recommend!

My #1 spot for Chamorro Empanadas!
My family and I would call and place our orders for empanadas, tatiyas manha and kelaguen ahead of time, and by the time we arrive our food is hot and fresh. They also carry a good variety of filipino and chamorro baked goods, just wish this place was closer to home.

Elite is my go-​to for celebration cakes. Their Guava chiffon cake is the best! And their POG chiffon cake is my alternate. The mango and guava cupcakes are amazing as well! For this recent celebration, I needed two cakes for one party, celebrating two things.
I emailed Ken what I was looking for and he replied with a quote and deposit amount. He provided some good feedback on portion sizing, the designs I was looking for and how the icing would affect them, and even the effect of colored icing and how it can change the taste. I was really impressed with his breadth of knowledge.
At the end of the day, he delivered once again on two delicious cakes and beautifully decorated as well. It’s a staple on my list of bakeries and I’m so glad it’s in Union City!

Delish. Service was kinda meh. But those guava cupcakes are the MAN! Amazing. Not to sweet and lightly flavored with guava. The epic surprise was the guava paste in the middle. We were on our way to pick up lunch and I saw the bakery on our way bake! Totally worth the pit stop! So glad I live in the area! Amazing!

Come here for the Kelaguen. Leave with the Kelaguen… and a crap load of baked goods.
I’ve had this place bookmarked because I’ve always wanted to try their Latiya, Banana Donuts, and Kelaguen. Well, after 2 years of being in my bookmarks, I was finally in the area and decided to come by. The place is small, but most bakeries these days don’t need all that space for the front. Just as long as the product is good. I tried the hopia (flaky pastry made with pork or mung beans) and some cookies and the Latiya. I’m not a big fan of hopia, in general, but since it is one of their more popular items, I decided to give it a shot. Again, it was good, but it’s not something I would order again. Just because I’d prefer other sweets. The cookies were better and the Latiya was delicious. It’s not a fancy dessert, but it is a simple cake, but done right. Although, I’m a whipped cream person, so I wish they loaded up the cream. But, not everyone is, so I can’t blame them for that.
Now, on to that Kelaguen. For those who don’t know what it is, think of it like a cold chicken salad, but minus the mayo, and add lemon juice, peppers, onion, and a little coconut. It’s a Guamanian or Chamorro dish. Since they don’t have rice plates, you will need to take this dish home and eat it with some rice. Some might think it’s an acquired taste, but don’t let that scare you. It’s delicious! Especially with beer!
I didn’t get a chance to try the banana donuts, because they only make that on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. But, I guess that just gives me an excuse to come back!

Wait what I never reviewed Elite Bakery. This place has some really great Guam food.
The empanadas are awesome you can get it spicy or mild. If you want kelaguen you can get that too.
I like the pantostas that you can dip in your coffee.
They also have latiyas so you always get a taste of home.
There are a lot of drinks that you can only get in Guam too. King Carr and Assam Black Tea.
So if you are looking for some Guam food.
Or just looking for a cake made they also do that. They have a great guava cake.

I was excited to try this because of the empanada. the empanada is chicken but I feel like it’s nothing but rice. you could barely taste any chicken… for 2.75. I don’t think it’s worth it. I was really disappointed…
I tried the cupcakes guava and it good that’s my one star. the other star is the ube cookie.
I also got other stuff but it didn’t blow my mind. I won’t be coming back. it’s pretty pricy for all the dessert and hot item they have.

With my parents’ 25^th wedding anniversary coming up, I wanted to find a delicious but not too sweet or heavy cake that they – and the party guests and me! – would enjoy. I researched a few bakeries in Fremont where I live, but a lot of them were pricier than my budget range for the type of unique cake I wanted. Elite Bakery popped up as a nearby bakery in Union City, and the pictures, price averages, and reviews of full flavored cakes swayed me to give them a try.
As diehard Indians, my parents usually love mango-​flavored anything. But guava is a close second! I went in-​person to try the highly reviewed guava cupcake and it was delicious. The owner (whose name I have shamelessly forgotten) let me know that the cupcakes don’t taste the same as the full cakes, which was good to know and definitely true. My husband and I placed an order for a ¼th sheet guava cake. I didn’t like the way the original guava filling is used as décor on the top of the cake, instead of frosting, but the owner advised that using cream or frosting on top would lessen the effect of the fresh guava taste.
I am SO glad I listened to his advice – not only did he deliver on his promise to still decorate the cake beautifully and make sure the fresh guava filling was smooth on top, but I really can’t imagine the cake tasting as good without it! The cake is chiffon cake, light and not dry or sugary. The cream that was used on the sides as frosting is whipped cream, also very light and not too sugary. Overall, the cake was a hit amongst everyone – hard to do with Indian elders!
I would highly recommend this bakery for special occasions. It’s a family-​owned business and I really appreciated the owner’s honesty with how the cake would look, taste, etc. I can’t wait to go back and try some of the other unique flavors!

So many bakery options in the area but this one will definitely give you a unique selection. Located about 5 minutes off of 880 down the street from Union Landing and Seafood City. They are located on Dyer right between the gas station at the corner and apartment complex. There is a small private parking lot. They have various baked goods to choose from. Very limited locations in Philippines, Guam and luckily have one located here in the East Bay.
There usually isn’t someone at the front counter when you walk in but they are very aware whenever someone walks in. They will come to the front to greet you shortly. The staff is very friendly and has good customer service. Don’t be shy if you have questions or not sure what specific items are. They will be more than happy to inform you.
The Guava cake was light, moist and very flavorful with whipped frosting on top. I am a big fan of guava and they definitely exceeded my expectations. This is were I prefer to go now if anyone requests guava cake. You can order a whole cake or come in to pick up a pretty generous sized slice.
The Latiya has white sponge cake layered by light custard on top and lightly dusted with cinnamon. The White sponge cake was light, and moist. Thought all the flavors complemented each other very well and was pretty good. The Latiya comes in a two size options. You can choose between the personal and regular pie size.
The Empanadas are made to order. Orders may take 10 – 15 minutes to complete but you can call in your order ahead of time.

I LOVE this place!
Purchased a guava cake for my Moms birthday & it was a hit! It was my first time buying anything from Elite bakery & I’m so sad I didn’t discover this place sooner. The cake itself is light & fluffy, and the filling of whipped frosting with guava gel is the perfect combination. I can’t wait to come back to try more items from this bakery, and maybe I’ll end up getting another cake too. Lol.

We ordered their mango cake previously and we were not fans… but their guava cake! YUM!
Definitely would recommend the guava chiffon over mango. Delish! Will definitely be back!

December 21^st, I left the office in a hurry… desperate to find the perfect birthday gift for my sister. What do you get for the person who already has everything? What’s something that she could not buy for herself, yet be something that I could afford?
Wham! It hit me in the face like one of Dwight Howard’s flying elbows, worthy of a flagrant foul! I’m going to get my sister a real birthday cake! A cake with effort and thought. A cake that required more than driving to some place on the day of. I wanted to get her a cake that she would remember forever.
I perused cakes on Unilocal,and tried to find a place that was close enough to my home and seemed like they’d be open during the holidays. There I found, Elite Bakery and their much acclaimed guava chiffon cakes.
I agreed in my mind to set aside $ 300 for the most spectacular birthday cake, and quickly drove to Elite Bakery. When I arrived, there was a queue of people waiting to purchase baked goods. I finally got to the register and said I wanted to order a cake. Never having ordered a custom cake before, I had lots of questions, and finally the poor girl behind the counter, overwhelmed by my flux of questions, brought the owner/​manager to come speak to me about my cake.
The process took about 10 minutes to order my cake, which must have seemed like an eternity to her because they were so busy. She offered me a standard themed design from one of their catalogs but those cakes seemed to cater to children. I asked about multi-​tier, fondant, and custom designs. I certainly hinted that I was willing to drop a bit more for an exquisite cake.
Unfortunately, there needs to be a 14 day advanced order for cakes that require any customization or fanciness, and she informed me that a cake of that magnitude would not be ready by the 30^th due to all the other orders.
I ended up placing an order for a ¼ sheet guava chiffon cake, which had a photo printed on rice paper. I tried to get as many add-​ons as possible to get the most aesthetically pleasing cake I could on such short notice, but there was nothing much else they could do for me. I was even talked into getting a standard icing instead of something like cream cheese frosting which would have set me back another $ 25 or so. I guess I’m glad that the woman who helped me didn’t gouge me or overpromise and under deliver. I can respect that.
The 30^th arrived and I was able to pick up my cake without any trouble. It came just as advertised. I presented the cake to my sister and our dinner guests, and 25 people enjoyed cake with some left overs as well.
The chiffon was light and fluffy which everyone enjoyed. I was expecting a bit more flavor to the cake and the icing, and I think the guava flavor only came from the guava filling between the layers. The guava was not evenly spread out within the cake, so some slices didn’t have any of the guava filling at all.
Overall the cake was okay. If I need a custom cake for about $ 60 or so, I would certainly come back here. But I may try another bakery the next time I’m in need of an absolutely stunning cake. I paid about $ 67 for everything out the door, which is a lot less than the $ 300 I was looking to spend. I’ll have to remember this year to place my order on the 1^st of December, and not cut it so close next time.

I remember when the store first opened up way back when my sister turned 18. It was new, but my cousin enjoyed their buenelos (I know I got the spelling wrong!) & said everything else looked good so we gave it a try. Since my sister was turning 18 at the time (she’s now 21), we were looking for a place to order her birthday cake. We walked in & saw they did cake orders, so we tried their cupcakes… Strawberry, guava, red velvet, mango & cookies & cream. All of which were amazing! Moist & a good amount of sweetness for me! I love love loved the guava! My sister decided to go with a three tiered cake– strawberry, guava & mango! The cake was a hit at her birthday! Especially the guava! Since then, we always came back & we tried more items.
More food items we tried were:
Baboy (pork) hopia: MUST TRY! Hands down THE BEST I’ve EVER had! I usually get 2 dozen to go, lol!
Buenelos (Guamanian banana doughnut): SUPER YUMMY! I like the added cinnamon sugar!
Chicken keliguen (chopped chicken mixed with onion, spices & sauce): loved the spice!
Every time I come here, I’m always greeted with a friendly hello. When I used to walk in, the owners would know my order because I always ordered the hopia, lol. But haven’t made a trip out until recently. The hopia is still amazing!

This place gets gully booked fast. You need to book 4 – 6 months in advanced. Goes to show how great their cakes are!

I found this bakery on Unilocal while searching for a birthday cake. I told the lady behind the counter that I would like a slice of their guava cake to taste before ordering the 6″ whole cake but she said the only guava cake they have available to buy right then was the guava cupcake, which has a similar flavor but is a pound cake rather than a chiffon cake. I decided to buy 4 cupcakes to try — guava ($ 2.75), mango ($ 2.75), taro ($ 3.75), and passion fruit ($ 2.75).
As I was heading out the door with my cupcakes, I changed my mind and decided to just go ahead and order the 6″ Guava Chiffon cake for $ 19.95. Given the glowing reviews, I felt fairly confident that the cake would be good without even tasting any of the cupcakes I just bought.
Verdict on cupcakes: All were moist with very sweet frosting. Some were more dense in texture than others. All of the cake flavors were interesting but the 3 fruity ones weren’t significantly different from one another. Sadly, despite my notorious sweet tooth, I really didn’t like any of them enough to take more than a few bites before tossing them in the trash. Taro was probably the best of the bunch.
Verdict on guava chiffon cake: Much closer to what I was expecting — light and fluffy layers of cake with tasty guava-​flavored goo on top and in between. The main downside to this cake was the extremely sweet frosting on the outside. Once we carved off all of the white frosting from the top edge and sides, the remaining cake was quite delicious. It also went really well with coffee for breakfast the next morning.
All in all, I probably won’t be going back. I feel like I got a good sampling of what Elite Bakery had to offer and, while they have unique flavors, a good selection, and reasonable prices, it just wasn’t for me. For both the cupcakes and the whole cake, the overly-​sweet icing is definitely what turned me off, and I’m not even usually an icing hater. As a matter of fact, one of the best cupcakes I’ve had was from Gigi’s in Atlanta (
), where the icing was as tall or taller than the cake part of the cupcake! The difference was that Gigi’s icing had a creamier texture, rather than a crunchy sugary texture, and wasn’t as sickly sweet.

I discovered this place after my Aunt brought over some Guamanian empanadas over for Christmas dinner! I stopped by one day after the gym to buy 2 empanadas and ended up with so much more: 2 empanadas, 2 cupcakes, and then I ended up ordering a custom made cake by Ken!
I was browsing around the bakery and looking at the books to see their previous work. Luckily, Ken was there. He is the cake designer and creator. I spoke to Ken about my vision and what I was looking for him to create. Immediately he started sketching out some ideas that we discussed.
I threw a surprise 80s murder mystery party for my fiancé! I wanted a cake that was everything 80s: bright, neon colors, boom box, Walkman, Converse, rubric cubes, etc… Ken was really good about asking me what I like, whether it was design or taste. Based on our conversation, Pinterest board and Google images review, we had an idea sketched out. Afterwards, I communicated with Ken via e-​mail. I sent him graphics of what I liked. From there, he was able to come up with this awesome design. Best of all, he stayed within my budget and he was willing to work with me. He never tried to up sell me. He was just an all around nice and honest person. I respect business people who practice these basic customer service skills (and people skills). He also had ideas and suggestions, which I valued.
The cake tasted just as good as it looks! I went with the guava chiffon cake! It was delicious! Everyone at the party raved about how good it was. They asked me where I got it from and they were happy to know it came from Elite because it’s in their neighborhood! They went back for seconds and the entire cake was gone so quick! I should have bought a bigger cake but I had no idea everyone would consume that much?
In addition to the cake, I also bought 20 empanadas: half mild and half spicy. Everyone ate them, and had like 3 to 4 each! They couldn’t stop eating them. All of our friends from all races thought these were delicious (Indian, Fijian, Filipino, Caucasian, Chinese)! Elite threw in a free one because I had to wait a little while they fried them. They weren’t ready when I got there. Since they made them while I was there, they were hot for a while before I served them at the party. These were a hit! I think these will be a staple for every party we throw! The Guamanian empanadas are way better than the Filipino ones! By far, superior!
The whole process was simple. Communication was easy and responsive. I paid for everything on the phone! For the most part, everything was in order before I came.
I think we found our new family baker! Now I just need to convince Ken to make gluten free cakes and cupcakes! I am allergic to gluten so I can certainly say it was worth trying the cake! I used a Benadryl so that I could eat the cake! It was a special occasion and I wanted to try it so bad, and I’m glad that I did! They also gave me a slice of a new flavor they are trying out: passion fruit, orange!
Perhaps Ken may consider also making some gluten free and dairy free cakes and cupcakes. Two of our other family members who are Autistic, typically eat gluten free and dairy free diets. I have been trying to find a bakery that can make dessert for these guys. It would be nice to find a place to buy cakes or cupcakes for them, too. We could have a one stop shop.
A lot of our friends and family will be showing up here for sure! Thank you guys for doing such an amazing job! Everything was awesome! I’ll definitely be back.
