Miss Darlene is amazing!
I’ve always wanted to get my hair braided and finally had the chance to do it. First off, I’m Filipino and my hair is bone straight and course. It’s not the easiest hair to work with but Miss Darlene was able to give me the braids that I wanted! She’s very passionate about hair and she great to talk to to!
I’m so happy I found someone that is so talented and is very close by to where I live. She has a really cute shop located in downtown union city. I highly recommend going to her if you ever want your hair braided!

So I been thinking about getting dreads for awhile but wanted to find a place where I felt comfortable at and had a good reputation. Miss Darlene’s shop is that and more. She makes you feel at home and makes the whole experience an enjoyable one .
Consultation was free, easy and quick. She showed me various examples of different hair styles she has worked on and has a tremendous amount of knowledge working with all hair types. My hair being mix of Samoan and Black hair, she was easily able to work with it. She takes her time and makes sure the work is good. It came out very well and can’t wait to visit her shop again in couple weeks to get it looked at again.

My hair stayed perfectly over the week and I felt like she was more gentle since I wouldn’t need the braids for long. First time with this stylist. Made this appointment for loc maintenance. Scheduling an appointment was easy. Ms. Darlene was very professional and prompt getting in contact with me. Her location is in a very community-​oriented area (Farmer’s Market in the area on Saturdays, so parking in the area may be tricky on this day). Ms Darlene is very kind and willing to explain technique and maintenance. Ms. Darlene made me feel comfortable immediately upon meeting her. She is very in-​tune with client needs and she cares about how the client feels (she asked me questions to learn this about me), client expectations and client overall happiness.
Mutual respect between client and stylist is just as important to me as good customer service alone. I am pleased with Ms. Darlene and look forward to future appointments!

I called in early July for a consultation and Miss Darlene said she could fit me in the next day. I arrived on time and she took a look at my hair, asked about the style I wanted. I told her I wanted Marley twists and she told me how long the procedure would take, how many packs of hair I needed and where to find it. Soon after i paid my $ 20 deposit, I had an appointment booked for two weeks later.
I purchased the hair from the beauty supply store that Miss Darlene suggested (can’t remember what it’s called but it’s not too far from the Salon). That process was a little hectic but that’s because I have no experience buying hair and the store (and their employees) were very busy. But eventually I got the hair.
Appointment day arrives I show up at 8am and we get started right away. Since I’m very antsy I tend to fidget a lot, asked the lady doing my hair (still can’t remember her name) if I could help separate & prep the hair. She showed me how and it was simple enough! So I ended up prepping all the hair we used that day. Which supposedly made the styling time faster so she could focus on actually INSTALLING the hair.
After two movies and two naps (in the chair while she did my hair) and one short lunch break. I was finished! The whole process took about 8.5hrs. I was so happy with the finished look. Miss Darlene & the woman who did my hair gave me some maintenance tips and told me my scalp would be a little sore for a few days (as expected because I had never had my hair like this before).
I’m so upset that I can’t recall the name of the woman who did my hair, but she and Miss Darlene were so amazing to me. They were so helpful the entire process. I will definitely be back for a similar style in the winter. Especially since having long thick twists is not a good idea during the summer because they are heavy and HOT. But I loved it regardless! I took the style down three weeks later because it was too heavy for the weather we were having but that’s okay.

Darlene was a nice woman and did a great job on my hair. She was working constantly for six hours on my hair. She did nice and tiny braids for me and made sure they are exactly the way I wanted them. It was my first time doing this and she helped me figure out what I wanted by doing samples on my hair a week in advance.

than just a hair do. She listened to me at the consultation and told me
exactly what would work and what wouldn’t. She analyzed the styles I was
considering and told me how they would adapt to my face and my hair type. She
taught me how to care for my new hair so that it would last. I couldn’t be
happier with Darlene! Of the many people who have worked on my hair, Darlene
is now my braider of choice and I highly recommend her to everyone who wants a

This was my first time getting crochet braids and Darlene made it a delightful experience from start to finish! She is a professional in every respect. She answered my calls and questions in a timely fashion and had no problem scheduling my consultation on a day that fit with my schedule. She listens to what your needs and wants are and makes sure that she has an understanding of what you want in a style. I have been natural for a year and a half and wanted a easy protective style. If you choose Darlene you won’t regret it.

Darlene did an EXCELLENT job on my hair! It took her only 5 hours to braid my entire head when previous stylists took 8 hours or more. She conditioned the hair before she started and made recommendations no other stylist mentioned before. She said, «I’m not a tight braider, but I’m a secure braider.» I didn’t even know that was possible before her! Not only have I found my new braiding stylist, but I will refer her to anyone who asks.

Love love love my hair. This experience was great and Miss Darlene was super nice and knows what she’s doing.
I’ve never had a full sew in weave before and was very nervous about the whole thing. Miss Darlene made it very comfortable and explained every step. She also told me how to keep up with my hair! She’s very knowledgable and is very patient with newbies! ^.^

I highly recommend Miss Darlene! She took the time to arrange an appointment for a consultation, during which she provided a portfolio of her work for me to look through.
We discussed the style I wanted (long, narrow individual braids) and I showed her the most similar styles in the book. I put down a deposit (cash only, important to know!) and made an appointment.
The day of, she was early (I love that!) and ready to get to work! She reviewed what we had discussed and told me to make sure to let her know if she was braiding too tightly.
Wow! I was worried. I had already blocked out my week so that I would have ample time to recover from the Traditional Post Braiding Headache. When I mentioned this, she assured me that she would be able to braid it tightly enough to keep it from slipping out without causing me pain. I’ll admit — I was HIGHLY skeptical.
Miss Darlene is the first person I’ve ever had braid my hair who accomplished this magic! My braids were tight and I was pain free. An honest to goodness miracle as far as I’m concerned. She was also pleasant to talk to, something I appreciate for an all day undertaking such as this. Being trapped with someone whose company you find irritating would be extremely not fun for an all day thing like this.
This was at the end of July. I’m planning to contact her to book my next session ASAP! :-)
