Here’s one of the most awkward positions you can be in: You’re responsible for providing a large portion of the content for a major event, but you most definitely are NOT the organizer. You don’t pick the event location, the support staff, the budget, or anything like that; you just bring your team and support as best you can. This is scary because you get a lot of praise or blame from your team, but you have little control over the outcome. Thanks to these folks, it’s always been a spectacular success. I’ve had the pleasure of being supported by these guys for a couple events now, and I can unreservedly state that they are the best I’ve ever seen when it comes to helping events run smoothly. I’ve had multiple odd requests come up during major events, and not only is the answer always«Yes, we can do that,» but the request is always fulfilled quickly, professionally, and most importantly, with ZERO additional followup from me. If I request that something happen, I just walk away knowing that a) it will happen, and b) they will use good judgment to come up with and implement a great alternative if necessary. The ability to delegate requests with confidence is indispensable on event day, and they are the best I’ve ever seen. It’s pretty easy to call yourself an event planner, but being a truly excellent one who can deliver the goods is extremely difficult. I’m so lucky that I get to deal with JA Mathis every now and again.
