Pacific Northwest Periodontics

I had a cracked tooth, which was causing me crazy pain. I stopped by Pacific Northwest Periodontics and they were able to pull the tooth the same day. I feel so much better!
I want to thank the staff (in particular Sharon), who helped me initial. She is a very caring and professional. Plus the oral surgeon did a great job with the implant.

Obviously it’s never something people look forward to when they need to see a dentist… let alone an oral surgeons. My regular dentist referred me to Dr Rapoport to take care of my issue. I nearly asked for a different practice based on the locale as it was a bit of a drive for me. But I figured, my dentist knows best. And he sure did. The assistants were courteous and personable. The pre-​exam details were phenomenal and Dr Rapoport took me through exactly through my options as well as the actual procedure. The day of procedure was no big deal at all. And even got a courteous call direct by Dr R in the evening to ensure I was ok and a few more details of the procedure. Aesthetically everything looks great… and it’s a big deal given it’s my front tooth.

I personally worked with almost all of the local periodontic practices for over 10 years as their practice management software consultant i.e. scheduling, insurance, billing, x-​rays, etc. When it came time to have my own Periodontic procedures done I chose Pacific NW Periodontics. The Periodontists; Drs. Darrin Rapoport and Ralf Schuler along with their team are knowledgeable and friendly and those traits are very important when you’re going through procedures that many patients are nervous about having. I personally enjoy getting my teeth cleaned «scaling», «root planing» and «periodontal maintenance» in their office and my «gum graft» wasn’t that big of a deal a week after I saw Dr. Schuler.

I’m providing a revision of my initial review here:
Update: I never asked for a refund but the doctor in his response, indicated that he hoped I would update my review and he was sending me a refund «in good faith» bur never did. I just thought that was sort of weird. Just one other thing, the people in this office wear headsets and talk to other people while they distractedly work on you. I don’t know if this is normal but not the sort of attention one would expect for a four-​thousand dollar procedure.
First, I would like to apologize for a personal comment regarding Dr. Rapoport. I believe that when he came into the exam room to see me, I was already in a state of annoyance. I think that there are two primary aspects of consumer experience that are considered when providing a critique: the first is, technical quality and the second is the manner in which it is provided. I have no doubt that Dr. Rapoport is a highly qualified surgeon and amiable in his own way, but patients anyone who are paying thousands of dollars for care, I think, rightfully deserve respect, courtesy and consideration.
There were some points that Dr. Rapoport made in a reply that I would like to discuss…
1. I’m really not a hard person to please, I would much rather have experiences that merited a positive review. I’ve been seen by a lot of excellent doctors in various settings and never had a reason to complain. I’ve found that the difference to me between a good health-​care provider and one that is so-​so is that they respect your intelligence, they communicate with patients as equals and they get to know patients rather than make assumptions. about them The fact that I have a different last name than my husband should not prompt someone to ask how I know him. The week prior, I had picked up my husband from his surgery at the center. At that time he referenced me as his wife and I was wearing my ring. Not a huge deal but then, the assistant referred to my female dentist several times as «he». Maybe it’s just me but I’ve never had someone do that before so people must care. I realize it’s a subtle thing for many but try to make proper attribution where it’s due.
2. Everyone’s body responds differently to medical treatment, medications, etc. I am limited by adverse responses to certain medications and yet I had to explain at length why I wanted hydrocodone rather than the medications offered. It was a situation in which I felt that there were assumptions made about my using a particular medication as opposed to the assumption that not everyone is looking to have oral surgery so that they can hook up some drugs. I just felt embarrassed.
3. Concerning the temperature of the office; the air conditioner that was on high and blowing on me had a display that said 67 degrees. I don’t understand why the doctor would say that it was just a fan. He suggested that I should have turned it off while I was in the room for a half an hour but when I am at someone else’s place of business, I don’t change the settings on anything unless I’m told it’s okay. I would just suggest that if the office is warm, that they don’t have it directed onto the patient at two feet away. By the way, weather that day was mild.
4. The procedures were more costly than I anticipated. I regret not looking the paperwork over better and just taking the accountant’s word that they were saving me several hundred dollars and reducing the cost to under three-​thousand. I did not calculate all of the other expenses that brought the total to an excess of 4,000.00. When I said that I wanted to review the statement they only had a copy that was in about an 8 pt. typeface. Totally my fault for not reviewing the fee summary at home but when I said that I would like to go home, go over it again, and call back later in the day, they said that to do that I had to leave them an imprint of my credit card. I told them I couldn’t do that, which to them, was a bigger deal than I thought it should have been.
The doctor said in a response, that he was directing the staff to send me a refund. I never asked for a refund. I said that I would pay for all of the procedures that I had received without question. I just had to review the paperwork and I never asked them to do a single thing without my paying for it up front. Whether they actually do send it or not doesn’t really matter. I’m happy to have ended the process where I did regardless of what I have already spent.
Anyway, again, never doubted their technical competence. My husband’s surgery went great. This is just an aggregate of my experiences which were unfortunately not off-​set by anything positive. The general demeanor of the office was not for me and I apologize for anything that I may have said that was, or sounded, personal.

PNW Perio was recommended by my dentist to consult on my receding gums. I love these guys! I’ve had 5 gum grafts by Dr. Rapoport – my entire outside gum area. He is such a great guy. So genuinely nice and caring. Everyone in the office is friendly and concerned about my teeth and gum health. I’ve had lessons twice in how to properly brush my teeth. Believe me, after going through the gum grafts, all of which are very sucessful, I intend to keep my mouth as healthy as possible forever! I have only great things to say about PNW Perio.

Let’s face it. A trip to the dentist isn’t the most enjoyable thing we look forward to in our day. However, the staff at Pacific Northwest Periodontics makes the experience as good as it can be. Each and everyone one of them is congenial and professional. Dr. Schuler is far and away the most gifted dentist I have encountered in my life.

So far so good. By far the best education I’ve ever received about my teeth, and the best financial assistance, too. Entire staff is great and seems legitimately concerned about my dental health. Good things? Juice on hand because I’m diabetic, and great coffee.

I recently had to have an extraction done on tooth #19 and couldn’t be happier with this office and Dr. Ralf Schuler. The office staff were completely flexible with my schedule and even let me combine an office visit and a pre-​surgery appointment due to my scheduling difficulties. Also, the day of surgery the office staff were helpful and cheerful. Dr. Schuler explained the extraction process thoroughly so that I would know what to expect. And honestly the results were better than I hoped. He did an amazing job. I didn’t even need the pain medication. I cannot recommend Dr. Schuler and this office highly enough — absolutely the best you could ask for… Will be returning for an implant procedure and I’m pretty excited to have found such a wonderful periodontist.

I highly recommended this office to anyone. I had an extraction and implant placed by dr. Rapoport. This was by far the easiest experience I had ever! I cannot stop raving about this practice and this office is the best of the best!
When you walk in, you are greeted by a smiling lady and checks you in and offers you something to drink. They always bring you back on time. The assistants are very friendly and make it all about you. Dr. Rapoport is very professional and friendly. He is such a perfectionist and his patients cares and needs are priority to him. The financial ladies write you an estimate and are very professional and friendly as well.
I actually wish I had another fractured tooth just to see them again!

Dr. Rapoport and his staff are complete professionals. They treat me like I’m family. I’ve been really impressed coming away from each appointment I’ve had, and I recommend them to anyone needing oral surgery, dental implants or other more complicated dental work.

I love this office! I have been seeing Dr. Rapoport now for a few years and he is amazing. I love that he is so kind and gentle, and passionate about what he does. I feel he genuinely cares about your comfort and wants the best. The support staff is amazing too. VERY PROFESSIONAL!
