Rick and the staff always go out of their way to ensure that the best work is being done at an honest price. They maintain constant communication so that there are no surprises when the car is ready for pickup. Clearly one the best if not the best businesses in Tucson.

Every time we take our cars to PJ, we feel very at ease that they are in good hands. The whole staff could not be more courteous. I can’t recommend them enough.
They are honest too and we have never felt as if we are being taken advantage of like we do at some other places. We will always take our cars to get repaired and maintained at Primarily Japanese. They are Tucson’s best car repair service.

I call my car «my Precious» (Gollum voice optional) so you can guess that I don’t trust her to just anyone. Two years ago when I bought her, the lady at the credit union recommended her mechanic. I checked them out and was so glad I did! Primarily Japanese always takes good care of my Precious. They are up front about costs, problems, and solutions. Everyone I’ve met is friendly, helpful, and dependable – what they say they will do, they do. If they don’t know or don’t think a repair is needed, I’m told that too. The costs are discussed beforehand then itemized on the receipt, and if something comes up that will increase the cost, they call me right away. I also greatly appreciate the courtesy ride to and from work when I have to leave my car.

About a year ago, I had a mechanic back in home warn me that my suspension needed to be replaced soon and it has been bugging me ever since. Now that I’m planning a drive back to California, I know my brake pads need a replacement and this was the time to do it. After an extensive Unilocal search, I decided to give Primarily Japanese a chance despite their low in quantity but high in quality reviews.
I spoke to Rick to make an appointment, explained everything. Since it was my first visit, I was given a courtesy inspection. I brought the car in first thing in the morning and noticed their shop was full of cars under service — I was surprised that these guys didn’t have more Unilocal reviews! I handed my car over and went about my day (they even have a nice and free courtesy shuttle service). After several hours, Rick called me back with the report. Again to my surprise, the only parts that needed replacement were my front brakes, air filter, and oil change (I usually do my own oil changes, but why not). I specifically asked about the suspension and Rick said they are in great shape and a replacement is not needed! My car was in and out in half a day and I couldn’t be happier with Primarily Japanese’s honesty and exceptional service!

Tired of taking you car to the dealership and overpaying for general maintenance? So was I!
I’ve been overpaying the dealership for standard services for the last couple of years. I didn’t understand why oil changes were costing me so much. That is when I went on the hunt for a long term mechanic. I did my homework for weeks, getting recommendations from people and stalking company reviews on Unilocal.I stumbled upon Primarily Japanese on Unilocal and was pleasantly surprised with all the positive reviews. I decided to take a chance and I am so glad I did. I finally feel like I found a long term mechanic that I can rely on for many years to come!
I went in without an appointment and informed them I needed an oil change. With a lot full of cars, I was sure they weren’t going to be able to get me in. I was surprised when the receptionist (who was EXTREMELY friendly) asked me if I could leave my car there for the day so that they could squeeze me in. She offered to give me a ride to work and pick me up at the end of the day. It worked out perfectly because I didn’t need to sit there and wait for my car to be finished, ask for time off of work or ask a friend/​family member to give me a ride. Primarily Japanese took care of all of it for me from start to finish.
Not only did they do the oil change, they inspected my car from bumper to bumper (for free) and surprisingly told me «your car is perfect.» How many times have you gone to a mechanic and they tell you that? Most places tell you something is wrong, even when there isn’t, just to sell you something. They gently informed me what will need to be done in the near future so that I could financially prepare (I will need new breaks in the next 3 – 4 months). I actually felt taken care of. I left the shop feeling 100% positive about my car, about the service they preformed and most of all, positive about the future of my car. I know that no matter was happens to my car, I will have a mechanic who is honest and trustworthy.

Joe and the gang at Primarily Japanese went above and beyond excellent service with my 2003 Subaru Forester. They picked up my vehicle while I was at work, diagnosed it accurately, and delivered it back to me the same day. Joe spoke to the shop I’d used previously, and after his intervention the owner of the other shop agreed to fix the problem they had missed (which had resulted in extra and potentially unnecessary repairs there) for cost. I can’t thank him enough for his efforts, and he has earned a future customer for life.

I drive a 1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo, and unfortunately, I can’t always find a trustworthy mechanic who is familiar with this car. Being an older, mid engined vehicle, it’s hard to take it to just anyone. Some people won’t even touch it because working on it can be difficult and expensive.
I had driven out to Tucson from Los Angeles earlier in the week to visit a long time friend. It was a long drive for a 24 year old car, and it began overheating just as I arrived and obviously needed some fixing.
Being my first time out on my own in Arizona, I was terrified that I wouldn’t be able to make it home in time for school later in the week if I didn’t get it patched up soon.
Luckily, this place had great reviews, and seeing that they were a Japanese specialty mechanic, I gave them a call. They said they would do work on the MR2.
I made an appointment for early in the morning at 7:30, as soon as they opened. They were very friendly, and I told them my situation. The car had to be roadworthy again for the trip back to California.
After having the car for a few hours, they found the issue, fixed it, and I had my car back before the end of the day. I’m glad it wasn’t something severe, and the final bill was even less than they had estimated.
Great price for diagnostic. Great price for the service. One of the best experiences I’ve had at any mechanic. I wish more places in California were like this. I will definitely bring any car that needs work here when stopping in Tucson.

I recently came into the shop to get my car checked out. My car was making some noise but I was unsure what was the problem. Josh took a look at my car. The sound ended up coming from a wheel bearing that was beginning to wear but was not in need of a repair just yet. He did not pressure me into repairing the problem prematurely. Overall, the owners and the receptionists are all very friendly and I would definitely come here again. I felt the price was fair and the found the mechanics to be very honest.

Always the best in Tucson and will be our mechanic of choice, honest mechanics are hard to find.

These guys are awesome. Very friendly and genuinely interested in making sure you get everything you need. Like many, I’ve had poor experiences at auto shops – not this place! They took me in right away and went above and beyond to fix my old Acura. As long as I live in Tucson I will be using this shop!

These guys have always been very fair and very helpful with me! I never have felt overcharged, and I trust them. They are all friendly and go out of their way to give good advice and assistance when needed. I have felt that their prices were fair, and they have always given me some price breaks on work. They also have worked with my budget and helped me prioritize repairs. Nothing but good things to say about them!

I called in to see if they had the time, if not when, to look at my car to diagnose a problem. The employee who answered the phone was extremely rude! He doesn’t even know me! i explained that i’ve never been there before, yet he insisted. Nice job loosing a customer!

We’ve been taking our cars to PJ for over 7 years. The service has always been excellent. I appreciate that I can trust them to do an excellent job at a fair price. If there is a problem, they explain and provide an estimate that can be counted upon to be the final price. If another problem arises, they always call to discuss. They will also work with you to identify those things that can safely be put off if funds are not available and give a time table of when it has to be done.
Our Prius has been well cared for with knowledgeable service technicians. We recommend PJ to all our friends and co-​workers and they have always come back with high praise.

They always call to review pricing before performing any work and offer to give you a ride to or from the shop if you need it.
I’ve been to a lot of auto shops in Arizona and California, and it doesn’t get much better than this.

Trusting a mechanic is the main focus for a consumer; with these guys, not only can you trust them, but their customer service is outstanding. When I couldn’t be without a car, they accommodated by pick-​up and drop back off my car after service. When I couldn’t afford all the needed repairs at one time, they prioritized the repairs on my budget constraints. Unless you have a family member in the business, you cannot do better than to have them service your car!

Love this place! These guys have been kind and extremely helpful. I have been going to them for car repair for a couple years. Every time they have done great work. They have never asked me to do things I would not need for my car. I trust these guys ALL THE WAY! I would send my children or my grandmother to this place without reservation. I have a dear friend who recently retired from mechanic work; he was always pleased with the work Primarily Japanese did on my car. Inside the shop there is a board full of heartfelt letters of thanks to these guys. I’m not the only one who has been treated like a person inside this business!
