I have been happy with this shop. They are honest and forthright when they discuss options on my Mercedes.

I found this place on Unilocal and thought it might come in handy since my car is old and has issues every few months!
This place really prides themselves on excellent customer service and I can see why! I had to take my car in to fix my brakes and I don’t trust just anyone with this kind of thing since not everyone knows how to deal with European cars. Their service was friendly and efficient. Although it took 2 days to get my car fixed instead of 1 like they tried to do, they did get me a loaner car in the meantime so I could get to work and wouldn’t be stranded. I’m not sure if they always wash your car with any service or just when it’s a big job.
I thought their pricing was a bit high compared to SoCal standards for what I needed to get fixed, but they do wash your car and give you a loaner if you need one, so I’m sure that goes into the pricing as well. They don’t give price quotes on the phone I guess b/​c they don’t want to actually look and see that there’s more to fix than you thought and give you a higher price.
They also have a nice & very clean Client Lounge area if you need to wait for something for a while. In the short time I’m in Tucson, I HOPE I don’t have to come back to fix anything else, fixing cars is not cheap!

I don’t like taking my car to the shop. Doubt I am alone in that feeling. I have used Bart and Group One for years, and they have never let me down or done anything to cause me to question their work on integrity. I trust them.
If you have a German car that is out of warranty, Group One is a great place. Your car will get serviced quickly, you will be kept up to date and informed as to progress, and your expectations will be met if not exceeded.
I can’t speak to the few people here who have had bad experiences. It is frustrating to have to put your car in the shop… for sure. But Bart and his team will take good care of you.

Don’t be deterred by Group One’s current (Jan 2014) 3-​star rating. The fact that my car runs and runs well is a testament to their 5-​star and above service. In fact, if you search for Group One reviews online, you’ll find a third party site which has reviews from customers who have had services completed there. These reviews are collected from surveys sent out after each appointment. This lowers the chance for fake and sham reviews.
I bought a used BMW that was beat up by the first two owners and neglected by the third. I knew of some of the existing problems but was not prepared for how bad they truly were. I took it to Group One for a pre-​purchase inspection (technically a post-​purchase inspection). Bart called me later that day and we discussed a laundry list of problems — the full work order of just what I chose to have fixed is two pages long. Bart prioritized the problems in order of urgency and then by my budget. He could’ve easily said, «You need to fix everything and it will cost you a lot» but he was honest in letting me know what was truly urgent and what could be held off for a later time.
Later on, my car started throwing some error codes so I brought it in without an appointment. I was set up with a rental car (they offer complimentary loaners and rentals) and went about my day. I was in constant communication with Bart and the service advisor and knew exactly what work was being done and how much it would cost. Both times, the final price has come in at or under budget.
I could go on but I’ll stop here and say that Group One is an excellent choice for German automobile service in Tucson. After one visit, you’ll see why they consistently receive 5-​star ratings and comments on the third party review site.

This is the complaint that I just filed with the Better Business Bureau:
Bart Lind, owner, did not repair the orig issue: temp gauge erratic and overheating, then he wanted to charge another $ 100 to diagnose the same issue.
On 11/​20, I brought my 2005 BMW 330i (approx. 130k miles) to Group One, a specialty repair shop for BMWs. Problem: temp gauge erratic and overheating. Bart Lind, owner, suggested a diagnostic for $ 100 that could be applied to the repairs so I left the vehicle at his shop. He called later to tell me that I needed a new fan clutch and that I had the wrong coolant. He would have the repair done that day for $ 571.77. I gave him the approval to do the repair. Around 5PM, I picked up the car. Within 30 minutes of driving home, the temp gauge was still ¾ hot and climbing. I called the very next day. After some discussion, Bart said that it is probably a head gasket issue (very expensive — at least $ 2,000 to $ 3000 repair) and suggested a second diagnostic for another $ 100. He also thought it might need a compression test to see if there was any water in the engine but insisted that he would have to charge me for a second diagnostic. I become very suspicious. He was supposed to have already done a diagnostic for the same issue; in other words, the issue was not resolved with the fan clutch and coolant. After extensive research online, I thought that maybe the water pump or thermostat might be the problem; they were original parts and had never been changed out. He dismissed any idea that it could be anything else. I decided to get a second opinion. On 11/​29, I had Tucson BMW dealership do a diagnostic for the very same issue. They recommended to start with replacing the thermostat for $ 550.11. I called Bart and asked for a price on replacing the thermostat. He again insisted that was not the problem and would need to charge me $ 100 for a second diagnostic, and he would call me back with a cost. I never heard from him. On the same day, I had Tucson Auto Repair replace the thermostat in the amount of $ 248.23. As of today, 12/​12, the temp gauge is perfect and the car is not overheating. Yesterday, my boyfriend stopped by Group One to talk with Bart. He gave Bart the opportunity to make this issue right i.e. partial refund for the labor, or the $ 100 diagnostic and/​or simply to acknowledge the issue. Bart offered nothing. Bart offered nothing and not only lost our business but I will tell anyone that will listen about our experience.

Bart and his team are really great to work with. I have an older 5 series and wanted my car looked over prior to a 1500 mile road trip. Not only did they give the car a thorough look over and prep it for the road trip, but the car ran and performed beautifully on the trip. Their prices are still well below the dealer and their service and professionalism is well above.
They have a great customer lounge area and don’t try and overcharge or perform unnecessary work on vehicles. I took my car to another shop in town for a vehicle inspection and they gave me a estimate with $ 5k in «repairs». Needless to say 3 months later the vehicle is still running fine and none of these «repairs» were performed. The only reason I didn’t have these repairs done was because Group One was honest enough to not do work that wasn’t needed on my car.
When it comes to vehicle maintenance I would rather pay more once for quality work and peace of mind than find the lowest bidder and hope they know what they are doing. What’s great is compared to a dealer and most of the european specialist shops in town Group One is on par if not slightly less for most of their work.
I have had nothing but good experiences here and would recommend it to anybody looking for work on the vehicles they service.

I really wanted to give Group One Motorwerks five stars. It has a comfortable, homey atmosphere and the employees are friendly and accommodating. But no amount of friendly customer service or pleasant décor is worth the exorbitant prices they charge for their services.
Encouraged by the positive reviews here on Unilocal,I went to Motorwerks to get my brake lights repaired. The guy who worked there informed me that the initial inspection starts at $ 100, but the cost of repair may be more depending on the «severity» of the problem. The next day, Motorwerks called to inform me that my brake light switch needed to be replaced. The total cost for parts, labor, and inspection would be $ 285.
This sounded steep to me, so I told the man I would get back to him. I did some research to find out how much a simple brake switch repair costs in the Tucson area… and wasn’t surprised to discover that it was about half as much. Concerned that I was being ripped off, I rang up one of Motorwerks’ competitors and asked for a quote. They told me that the cost to repair a brake switch was $ 50 in labor, plus the cost of parts (around $ 40) — a total of $ 90.
I understand that businesses reap a profit by up-​selling car parts, and that cost of labor is (justifiably) steep, but $ 285 is egregious — over $ 100 more than their competitors. This job is an easy do-​it-​yourself fix that can be done, at home, for roughly $ 30 (you can buy the parts slightly cheaper if you do it yourself). It takes an amateur thirty minutes of labor. What could possibly justify a $ 100 overcharge?
When I questioned the management why I was being charged so much for a relatively simple fix, all I received were shifty evasions and non-​answers. He wouldn’t even answer how long the repairs would take. When he started to compare his business to a «high-​scale restaurant,» where the price is based on ambiance and customer service, I decided to call it quits.
Take your business elsewhere; Motorwerk’s primary concern is squeezing every cent out of an ignorant customer.

Best in town, as far as I’m concerned. I’ve been taking my Mercedes to Group One since I purchased it in 2009. They came highly recommended to me by a friend who is a BMW aficionado. The service has always been fantastic, and I find the pricing to be reasonable. As far as the negative review goes, I have never experienced anything like that. In fact, when I took my car in for a routine service, they noticed that the new brakes they’d put on my car a month before were quite noisy and replaced them for me without me even asking. I would suggest that Debbie L. either meant to review another shop, or works for another shop in town. Long story short, Group One has always done a wonderful job with my car, and I would highly recommend them to anyone.

One of the problems when you own a BMW is finding a repair shop that knows what they are doing and doesn’t charge you an arm and a leg to do it. Group One Motorwerks fixed my car with no problem when I was on the road. A lot of auto repair shops will take advantage of you when they know you don’t have a choice. Not this place! The part I needed was not in stock anywhere in town. Bart located one and had it there the next day. Great work! Reasonably priced.

Incredibly friendly and knowledgable staff. The Bart and Mark have always been super helpful and they are really efficient. They keep my BMW running great! The service manager lady always gets me in right away and they’ve even dropped me off at work before so I don’t have to wait around. They are really reasonable on prices too. I know they work on BMW, Mercedes & Porsche but not sure what else. Highly recommended, much better than the other places I have been in town!
