Laser Eye Institute

I went back and fourth with doing this review and finally decided to share its my truth. Dr. Haddad was recommended to me by a friend. I went for the consultation and I must say he has an excellent staff and the facility is state of the art. During the initial consult, Dr. Haddad gave me options about possible procedures but I felt he didn’t really explain the options well. He then asked which one I wanted. I was surprised he was asking me rather then advising as he’s the doctor not me so that was odd. Thereafter during the consult he made a comment I thought was prejudicial but I chucked it to a scruffy old man saying something that makes you cringe but without malice. After the consult again since he came recommended and honestly I didn’t really want to do another consult I was considering letting Dr. Haddad do my surgery. However, after mulling things over I came to my senses. Ultimately, my gut just said don’t go thru with it and these were my eyes I needed a doctor I felt comfortable with. I ended up going to another doctor and had a flawless procedure and now have ²⁰⁄₁₅ vision. As the saying goes everything happens for a reason.

The staff here is amazing! The surgery is easy and the recovery is fast! They have the best technology (including laser flap instead of the blade, for example). Dr. Haddad is extremely personable and the best part of the whole thing is the ²⁰⁄₁₅ vision the next day! Absolutely recommend to everyone who is considering lasik!!!

I was scared, like anybody else to get my eyes done… it’s your eyes, not something you take lightly. But the Laser Eye Institute eased my worries instantly. The whole process was excellent, from beginning to end. Lasek surgery is the best thing I’ve ever done.
Now 3 years later, I’m still raving about my surgery to others. Dr. Haddad and his staff are the utmost professionals. I have since referred many of my friends to get their eyes done as well, and will continue to do so.

It’s been almost a year since I got my surgery, and I’m happy with my vision. It’s almost 20/​20, and though I do experience some halos while driving at night, it’s an expected risk that’s not totally bothersome. That being said, I had complications after my surgery that were (to me) totally unexpected.
Dr. Haddad placed dissolvable, collagen punctal plugs in my tear ducts in the week after the surgery because I was experiencing dryness. Because of these plugs, one of my tear ducts got infected with actinomyces israelii, a bacteria that forms solid deposits that can’t be treated with antibiotics. Ultimately, after seeing about 5 doctors/​specialists, I needed surgery on my tear duct to remove the deposits in order to cure the infection. When speaking with that surgeon about the cause of the infection, he said that he never uses punctal plugs for this very reason, and implied that the doctor who put them in was a total hack.
What bothers me is not that this happened, because I realize that I took a risk when getting this surgery, and luckily, I had health insurance. What bothers me is that upon realizing my eyes were dry, Dr. Haddad said «I’m putting punctal plugs in,» and did not inform me of the risks and benefits in order to obtain my actual informed consent. If the use of these plugs is as debated as my other surgeon made them sound, I’d think it would at least warrant a brief explanation of the benefits and risks, and if you’re going to hand over $ 3300 to someone, you kind of expect them to at least care in the least about what happens to their patients.
Further, I’ve had no follow up from his office since my appointments on whether I’m experiencing side effects or complications. I get the feeling that as long as he profits, he doesn’t care at all about his patients or whether his surgeries are even successful, since he complained to me about high taxes and Obama the whole time I was in his office.
I’m not saying don’t get surgery from him since I do have great vision. However, think about the risks critically and don’t necessarily listen to him when he touts his success rates, because they’re only based on brief follow-​up appointments immediately after surgery, not on long-​term results.

I’m closing in on 2 years since getting LASEK surgery at the Laser Eye Institute. I wanted to wait to put up a review until after I’d had it for a while. I went to 3 other offices for consultations when I was looking into getting the surgery. All of them seemed almost like a used car lot in the respect that they seemed shady and pushy. Walking into Laser Eye Institute was a different story completely. The office was VERY well kept, decorated and clean. I never felt pressured and everyone there was in good spirits. After talking to Dr. Haddad, I knew this was the place. He wasn’t pushy and didn’t seem shady at all. He talked to me about his experience and showed me many journal articles and research he had done throughout his career. As a Scientist, it helped me to see that he knew everything there was to know about this type of surgery and was going to take great care of my eyes. We also talked about normal stuff outside of work which made me feel like he wasn’t trying to sell me on anything.
After 2 years, my vision is still better than ²⁰⁄₂₀ and I have not had one regret. I was happy I went with the LASEK because I have had no issues with dry eye or anything. The recovery from it wasn’t nearly as bad as some people and the internet made it out to be. After a few days, I was seeing well and feeling great. I never really felt much discomfort at all throughout the process. The only possible negative I can tell you about is my eyes are slightly more sensitive to bright light (I notice it most with other vehicles when driving in the dark).
If I had any reservations about the Laser Eye Institute, I would spill the beans here, but I just don’t. I would recommend Dr. Haddad to anyone thinking about getting this surgery. I wouldn’t hesitate to do it all over again if need be.

I loved every part of my LASIK experience. Dr. Haddad spent a lot of time with me, and has a very direct and no-​nonsense way of explaining the surgery — until he breaks out the humor, and then swiftly puts it away again. His staff is *excellent* … after three visits I felt like they were my friends. Very professional, excellent result, very accommodating of my rush to get it done.
Kudos to the entire operation. Every single member of the staff is remarkably good.

I still stick by my 5 star rating for the surgery… but something odd happened a few days ago. I had a follow up appointment in December and when I arrived on time for my appointment in December, the receptionist told me they suddenly had to reschedule and they would let me know when to come back in. That’s ok… things happen. The really odd thing is that I heard nothing until February 1^st when a receptionist called me and said they would like to reschedule the appointment from December. Now, I understand if appointments are booked until February, but not to follow up with me for weeks after the office cancelled an appointment that I showed up for seemed odd. I was so surprised to hear from them that I said «Seriously? I need to reschedule?» and the receptionist hung up on me. I haven’t heard from her since, but that’s ok, my eyes are great.

I am so grateful that I went to Dr. Haddad at the Laser Eye Institute. Dr. Haddad and his staff have provided expert, professional and compassionate care for me over the past year. I inititally went here for Lasek, but made the choice to do ICL, based on Dr. Haddad’s thorough consultation and explanation of the pros/​cons recovery times and safety of each procedure, as they related to my prescription specifically. This was a very difficult decision for me, but throughout the testing/​decision making, I always felt that Dr. Haddad’s primary concern was for the health of my eyes. I am still grateful for the volume of time he spent going over my options and answering ALL of my questions. He even graciously covered the cost of additional testing needed for my case (which was beyond the scope of what was quoted) which I thought was exceptionally kind of him. He provides thorough, comprehensive pre-​op/​post-​op care… above and beyond. His entire staff is kind and friendly, and it is always comforting being greeted by name in the halls of his office. I had my left eye done in June and my right eye done in december, and I completely recommend the Laser Eye Institute & Dr. Haddad… beyond the exceptional value and fair price, he provides great care and great results, which is really what matters most.

Professional service. Friendly staff. Unquestionable value for my money — I would personally recommend Dr. Haddad and The Laser Institute for anyone considering Laser eye surgery. One day later and I see better than I ever did with glasses/​contacts over the past 30+ years. TRUE custom service from TRUE professionals. The team educated me throughout the process, took input from me and made me feel like a part of the team.
Dr Haddad took the time to answer all of my question and thoroughly described the procedure and technologies until I was completely comfortable with my decision. The staff was incredibly friendly and truly made me feel At ease throughout the procedure. My appointments happened on-​time and took as much time as they said with very little wait. I am amazed with the results and it’s only 12 hours later!

Dr Haddad knows his stuff! He’s been my ophthalmologist for 11 years, I trusted him with my vision before and I trusted him with my lasik/​lasek procedure last month, the man’s a pro!

I had my LASEK surgery here about 2 weeks ago and I’m very happy with the results. I decided on Laser Eye Institute after extensive research on them as well as other facilities. After all the research Laser Eye Institute came out on top as far as very nice facility, staff and the expertise of Dr. Haddad. The staff doesn’t treat you like you’re just another patient, you’re treated like family. I would suggest Laser Eye Institute to all family, friends or anyone that wants to get laser eye surgery. Truly the best.

I had LASEK eye surgery with Dr. Haddad about 2 months ago and am very pleased with the outcome. His staff is very friendly and professional and his office in Troy is modern and pleasant.
While searching for the right laser surgeon for myself, I went to initial appointments with three different surgeons.
I decided Dr. Haddad was right for me after experiencing the difference in the initial evaluation and professional manner of Dr.Haddad. Most importantly, he gave me options that neither of the other surgeons had even mentioned! He spoke with me at length about the benefits and drawbacks of each different procedure and answered all of my questions competently.
