Brew is an independent café and coffeehouse located at 108 E Front Street in Traverse City, Michigan. Brew offers customers a wide variety of delicious beverages, including coffee, tea, espresso drinks, microbrews, local wines, and seasonal drinks, along with pastries, grilled sandwiches, soups, salads, wraps, vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free menu options. Located in the historic Opera House building, the café serves as a gathering point where locals can socialize while enjoying a beverage or light meal. Brew ensures that its patrons feel relaxed and at home by providing Wi-​Fi, great music, and comfortable furniture. Brew places special emphasis on outstanding service and appealing products.

History

Established in 2011.

Brew is the brain child of local entrapenural team Melissa Charles, Sean Kickbush, and Jason Romine. Melissa and Sean are the managers and if you walk in and don’t see one or both of them you probably walked into Diversions or Holiday Traditons by mistake.

This is the place for nerds who want coffee or a beer. It has more of a bookstore flavor with free wifi. My nerdy friends on vacation went there via my recommendation and said, «Hey, how did you know we’d love it.»
Easy they are true nerds but very cool nerds.

I went to this place when I visited in November and then went again this past week when I visited again. I like the cozy atmosphere and the food and drink stuffs are pretty good. Everyone (per the norm in TC) was friendly and I get the feeling that it’d be fine to work there all day if you were so inclined. I would definitely make this place a home were I to live here — I could do breakfast with some coffee, then some lunch w/​a glass of wine or a beer. Perfect. My only issue would be parking… oh, and the wine list could be a little better and the coffee could be a little cheaper. :) But hey — downtown rent. What can you do?

Came in for beer week, server told me I could only Order shorts, service was slow and unconscious. Order a coffee I’m sitting at bar they refused to bring to the bar, just unprofessional service.

Great atmosphere and unique menu. Where else can you go for fresh coffee and micro brews? They have a great breakfast menu and the oatmeal is filling and delicious. They also have fresh pastries in a viewing case.
The coffee here is great. They have a self serve station for regular coffee… drop a $ 1 in the carafe and fill a cup and go. Or stay in and enjoy the atmosphere. Outdoor seating is available for the nice days.
Staff is usually always nice and courteous, but I’ve had my fair share of the rude employees that don’t say hi or acknowledge you after they call your name. Some of the wait staff walk around picking dishes up and won’t smile or anything. I find this interesting since most of the customers seem pretty nice and welcoming… sometimes the staff is NOT.
Sometimes the wait can be a little long depending on the day/​time.
Open late for those late night coffee dates :)

Very cool atmosphere. This is the kind of coffee shop that I like to visit. The décor was eclectic and classic. They have dozens of tables and chairs lined up in a row like a café, they have a front counter with stools like an old-​fashioned diner, and also a couch for relaxing. This would be a great place to do work, or homework if you are in school.

This place may be great for a coffee or a beer, but I really wouldn’t recommend the food. I ordered the «Hipster Salad» today thinking I was in for a delicious and creative lunch. Man, was I increasingly disappointed. I was served wilted iceberg lettuce with some crushed store bought tortilla chips on top.
Shocking that this can pass as a $ 9 lunch item.
Cute place, but definitely won’t be getting food here again.

My daughter and I are accompanying my wife who’s here in TC for a conference. Well, breakfast is a must and good coffee is an essential part of my vitamin «C» intake.
This place was within walking distance (15 mins or so) of our hotel (the Holiday Inn Resort across the busy street — but we found a cool pathway under the bridge and along the river).
I had a latte which was good (could’ve used a shot of fruity syrup like I like it; what can I say? I’m a ‘fru-​fru’ coffee drinker). My daughter had a hot chocolate which was consumed in its entirety. Very cool they had her almond milk to make it — good form!
She had the «lox of love,» and I had the «breakfast brew-​rrito.» Both were tasty (well, I don’t know for sure if my daughter’s fish was good because she inhaled it — which is a good sign, she’s a tough judge of smoked/​cured fish). The meal was hearty enough to get us through until dinner. Well done.

Just happened to just walk in looking for an afternoon pick-​me-​up. I had a latte which was really smooth and well done. Had a slice of chocolate cake which was good but nothing to rave about. its a big venue with a lot of seating, there were quite a few people lounging and reading. Cool place overall.

Amazing atmosphere here. They had cool art throughout, good set-​ups with various furniture and tables. It was a little difficult to find seating for our group of 6, but we made it work.
Everyone seemed to enjoy their coffee for the most part. There were many different options for brewing, which was cool. I got tea, and their tea leaves smelled delicious. I was very happy with the almond oolong that I tried.

I stopped in this place later in the evening and was looking for a beer and not so much a coffee. That was probably my first mistake. I bellied up to the little bar and ordered a local specialty beer. I was looking for a little bite to eat, but there was nothing that tickled my fancy on the small sandwich based menu. I was there long enough to have one beer and then went back to wondering the streets of downtown in search of a hearty meal. I definitely liked the feel of the place, it had a good local artsy vibe that carried over to the crowd that occupied the place.
The only detractor, and reason for my rating, was the service received. It was less than stellar and overall was on the «eh» side of things. Stopping back in here is really a crap shoot for me. It’s not a no, but I am in no rush to get back.

After landing in Traverse City at Cherry Capital Airport, I needed caffeine, and thus ended up at Brew.
When you walk in — you find yourself in a rather spacious, long, rectangular business — with lots of tables and places to sit. At 4:30 pm in the afternoon — there was a long line of people waiting to order.
I ordered a double shot Machiatto with Half n’ Half and a bowl of Chili. The Chili was pretty good — but the Machiatto was outstanding. Smoky and delicious!
There was all kinds of folks in here — families with kids, businessmen, local mountain men, teenagers, and more.
The menu includes soups, sandwiches, salads, breakfast sandwiches, and more. They offer beer, wine, as well.
Service was very good, everyone was very friendly.
Very cool place — if I lived in Traverse City, I’d be in here in all the time!

This place is great for a bite to eat and some coffee before exploring Traverse City. Very spacious but the interior still gave off a warm and inviting vibe.
Try the Lox of Love, toasted bagel, fresh ingredients and a scrumptious toasted bagel.
Got a nice big cup of pourover coffee from Mexico, so smooth and easy to drink.
