West Coast Bagels

This place is a joke. I made the mistake of buying a groupon voucher for them, and have attempted to redeem it three times. The first visit (around noon a Friday), they were essentially out of any of the bagels that people actually like (NOBODY likes you, cinnamon raisin, go home.). It seems odd that they would stay open until two if they are out of bagels by lunch. Still, I chalked this up to bad timing on my part and resolved to visit them again, earlier in the day.
Cut to the present. On Monday i pull up to a closed bagel shop. I noticed that the hours of operation sign has been changed recently, with Monday being the new «restocking» day. I decided to try again today. Once more, the place was closed, despite the presence of employees inside. I asked and the response was that there is a «medical emergency» and the place would be closed until the 29^th. Their website makes no mention of this, and I find it odd that there wasn’t any kind of contingency plan in place. This betrays a disturbing lack of organization, altogether. I’d like to be able to review this place based on the merits of the food, but I have not been able to do so, and doubt that I will. Save your money, don’t buy their vouchers.

The bagels are great if you grab them for your home but we all got a sandwich and it was so so. they microwaved the sandwiches and that just turned me off of them.
So with that being said, I would run in grab your bag of bagels and take them home. ;)

I LOVE how fresh and creative the bagels are at this place! Who knew there was such a thing as a Fruit Loops Bagel? And all the sweet cream cheese varieties to choose from, yummy! In the end, today I got a bagel sandwich, with perfectly cooked bacon and egg on a pesto and cheese bagel. Awesome!

Skip the line at the boring starbucks across the street and get a warm, fresh bagel with your coffee here… yes, they make great lattes and smoothies too.

The star is for the bagels, they are great. But after my last time there, I won’t go back.
I arrived at the shop at 6:25 AM, as I’ve been there before at 6 AM just like Unilocal says that they’re open. The door was locked but there were two people inside working. Just as I walked up another customer came as well. Him and I stood outside for 20 minutes and no one from inside ever address us. I looked on Unilocal again to make sure that they were open, and it said they were.
I called the number and watched as the girl inside pick up the phone. I asked her if she saw a standing outside and she said yes but she was not going to help us until 7 AM. I told her that we were standing outside for 20 minutes because of their time. She said now that they’re not opening until 7 AM she let someone in early or the week before and got in trouble by the manager. She said that due to «legal“reasons she can’t let us in. I asked her if she was ever going to address us outside if it wasn’t for me calling, and she said no.
What terrible customer service. It was cold outside and the fact that they weren’t even going to come out and say hello or tell us that they weren’t opening till 7 AM, beyond disappointed. I’ve been in food and beverage for 16 years and have not experienced anything like this before. Nor would I even dream of treating my customers like this.
You have lost me as a customer.

Love this place! The staff is friendly and now they are serving soup! They really try to go the extra mile! Loved my bagel Sammie. Bagels are soft, fresh made, and unique. I’be bought their day old and they have stayed fresh tasting for a few days! A must try!

Not only great bagels but great variety of sandwiches. Definitely worth trying them all. Turkey Bacon Avocado is a personal favorite but you really can’t go wrong. Toppings are fresh and the wide array of bagel & cream cheese flavors go great together. I have yet to try all the options and I’ve been getting my bagels here for months. Thanks!

One of my all-​time favorite breakfasts is a bagel sandwich with bacon, egg, and cheese. Or sausage. I like a good New York style boiled bagel… this place does not make boiled bagels. The bagels are kind of like hamburger buns. The eggs and sausage seem to be microwaved. The last time my husband went in to get us some breakfast sandwiches at 10:00 am on a Saturday, they were out of bagels. There were some proofing, so I guess we could have had breakfast by noon. We had McGriddles for breakfast that day. It’s a huge bummer; we want to like this place because it is extremely close to our house, it’s (presumably) locally owned and not a Starbucks, but with sub-​par products and employees clearly in need of leadership, it’s a disaster.

I’ve been standing almost half hour outside their place (it is 6:48 a.m.) and I have yet to see someone walk up to open the door for us (there are other clients with me). We all got here early based on the schedule in Unilocal (open at 6:00 a.m.) but found out that was changed to 7:00 a. m when we got here.
We all understand there can be changes and how west coast bagels messed up by not updating their profile in Unilocal,but the level of customer service is unacceptable. Everybody here was early for a reason, and there is no response by the people in the store.
I am the last person standing, and only because I promised these to my coworkers.

Their Oregon Lox lunch bagel was sooo good! I wish more places had hummus + veggies as a side. We also got half a dozen bagels to take home. Our faves also include the jalapeño pepperjack, cinnamon toast, and the pesto and cheese. We’ll be back, for sure!

I bought a groupon so I went here on Friday. I got the bagel box with 2 creamcheese tubs and the bacon breakfast sandwich on nob hill bagel. It tasted great. Service good. The person who took the order was very nice and he took the time to explain the menu. I’ll be back.

Oh bagel guys, this is really sad! I used to love love love coming here — i HOPE YOU READ THESE REVIEWS AND TAKE THEM TO HEART — YOU CAN DO BETTER! I can’t eat a lot of wheat but when I want a bagel I want a bagel and this has been my go to place since they opened. Hadn’t been in in a while and popped in this morning to grab a half dozen. From the get go there were problems. First the positive: they had enough everything bagels so that was exciting!
The problems are far more. Walking in it’s apparent that things have been removed — I didn’t know there were new owners until I hopped on Unilocal to check it out — but it feels empty, incomplete, and lost, where as it used to feel warm and cozy. The young man helping me with my order seemed rather un-​confidant. The front counter had very little in the way of items to purchase but lots of paper clutter, not sure why. I asked for half the bagels sliced and apparently he cut himself pretty badly rather than my bagels. How do I know this? Because they had an entire conversation about it right behind the counter and he kept dancing around behind the counter making a squishy face. This unfortunately does not instill confidence to your customers, is very unprofessional, and ew, just gross. Take it to the back please! Here’s hoping they didn’t use the same knife to finish cutting my bagels.
Even though I watched him write my order down, when dude #2 took over for the guy who was hurt he basically asked me to repeat my order in it’s entirety, step by step. While i was answering, injured dude kept yelling out the answers too. My half dozen was put into a box — the old style bags would have been just fine, but I understand they are probably using up existing supplies or trying to make a good impression — and when I was handed the box and walked out to the car I noticed that there was a stain on the top of the box. The bottom of the box had all the crumbs from my everything bagels that were clearly on the cutting board. I had to wipe off the box before finding a bag in my car to put it in, and then had to wipe off my hands. Dude #2 was clearly trying, but between their attire, the lack of professionalism and knowledge, it was clear that they are in a bit over their head.
I would like to say I will come back but I probably won’t unless they want to hire me to train their staff, which I will gladly do! They need it, or it’s clear they won’t be around much longer. And while we don’t need any poorly run businesses, it would be nice to keep some good options in the neighborhood!

I loved this place under the old owners. I’ve gone a few times since it changed hands and sadly probably won’t be back. The first two times I went in my service was slow, my latte bitter, and my sandwich was very sloppy. Also my bagel was very thin, like it didn’t get to rise enough when they were making it. I just went in on a Saturday morning and they were completely out of bagels for another half hour, and the lady was pretty rude about it, didn’t come greet me or talk to me really, just barked that they were out from behind the counter. Since this is a BAGEL shop I find this ridiculous and very sloppy on the part of whoever was running the store today. I was worried for them when the Starbucks moved in across the street. They definitely can’t compete of they’re going to run things like that. I know that I went right ahead and drove myself to Starbucks right after that. Too bad.

New Owner! Same great bagels (best in the area!) and now they have great coffee. I hope they beat the pants off the new drive through Starbucks that just opened across the street.
Great sitting area and delicious fresh juices too. A little out of the way, but worth the trip. You’ll love it!

Finally!!! Delicious bagels AND good atmosphere! The bagel flavors are especially yummy and the cream cheese flavors are tasty too. I am used to the fancy chain restaurant bagels which, while they make abundantly, have very little flavor and I’m often left unsatisfied. These bagels were indeed noteworthy. There are many more choices for deli sandwiches than I’m used to and I must admit I was dazzled by the fact they use Boar’s Head cold cuts. It was cozy-​warm inside and smelled scrumptious. Reminded me of something you’d find in the Hawthorne/​Belmont area of Portland. Don’t be fooled by the strip mall store front.

These are the bagels and schemers that all other bagels and schemers should be compared to. I was legitimately surprised that the jalapeño bagel with jalapeño schemer was so flavorful. But this place has bagel sandwiches too! Great spot for lunch or breakfast.

Such great bagels. I haven’t had one that I haven’t liked. Today I got a basil pesto bagel with chive cream cheese. It was bomb! My wife loves the cinnamon crunch with the regular cream cheese. She has a bit of a sweet tooth that this bagel definitely satisfies!

It’s been a while since I last went to West Coast Bagels, but I don’t think I will return.
Yesterday afternoon I stopped in to grab 2 bagels for the next morning.
As it was almost 2pm on a Tuesday, they were out of most varieties. I chose a cheddar and an Asiago, said I would like them «to go» for the next day. They asked if I would like cream cheese, and answered, onion chive and salmon spread on the side please.
Unbeknownst to me they decided to split and toast my bagels.
Now this morning I have 4 completely inedible bagel halves. After throwing away the hockey pucks, I opened the salmon «smear», only to find its 95% cream cheese and maybe 5% salmon. It’s white with a couple specks of pink!
I won’t be back, there needs to be a competent staff and better service if they want to stay open.

I stop here most mornings I’m in a rush and didn’t have time to make my own coffee and breakfast.
The bagels are fresh, and baked right there on site. I love the options they have! They have a jalapeño bagel thats one of my favorites, as well as one topped with bacon and cheese, yum! You can either get the bagel toasted with just butter and cream cheese, or they can make it into a breakfast sandwich. I usually get the breakfast sandwich with an egg, bacon, sausage, cheese combination.
The espresso drinks here are also good. I am not much of an espresso snob, so I couldn’t really tell you much about it, but it tastes good, and I get a good amount of energy from one;)
Service is always great! They have punch cards for those regulars, and they accept cash or charge. They also have a private parking lot that never gets too crowded.

The second in my bagel discovery voyage. Read some reviews and was pretty excited to find a place to try that I wasn’t familiar with — always a chance they will totally surprise and impress. I’m afraid this was not the case here. Would I go back if I were in the hood and needed a bagel? Maybe, but I’d probably travel an extra few miles to try something else instead.
On the positive, the bagels have a decent flavor and are reasonably priced (you can get a bakers dozen for $ 10 which is sadly unheard of in Portland it seems). They have lots of varieties (one of which was «rainbow», but no rye or pumpernickel). The gentleman who waited on me was perfectly nice and professional.
Now for the bad. I thought I would try two bagels this time. An everything and a cheddar bacon (I couldnt resist, it had actual pieces of bacon on the bagel!). They were way too chewy — more like bread. And so very thin — look at the pic of the bacon bagel… and that’s WITH cream cheese. Speaking of cream cheese — it’s ok, not great and not nearly enough.

Their location is so close to me that when I left to go there and came back, Stacey Q was still singing «2 of Hearts» on my CD player. I like that kind of convenience.
You know when bagels are so good you don’t need to toast them? That’s how fresh they are here, their baked daily in their special bagel ovens, you don’t even want to mess with what’s already just right. Toasting is for day 2. I haven’t yet had the bagel sandwiches, but I can tell you the cheese bagel is so good you don’t even want to put anything on it, though they do have an assortment of great cream cheese flavors, though their not cheap.
They have a $ 3 specialty coffee drink daily, those are good, though usually I just buy their decaf. Their decaf is sometimes good, other times really good, so not quite consistent but I still get it.
Staff and owner are very nice and the place is always clean too. They do close early at 3 which I don’t love, but I can’t take any stars away because how can they be expected to stay open during a slow time (albeit convenient for me).
A new girl asked me recently if I’d like my bagel cut in half. I said «yes please» because I wanted to eat half now, half later, as I have a tendency to really load up on the carbs I love so much. What I got was a 90% bagel and 10% bagel. Needless to say, my ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ plan would not work, but I thought it was funny so I posted a pic. Who am I kidding, I likely would have eaten the whole thing in one sitting anyway lol. No stars removed for the disproportionate bagel.
