Janss Marketplace

I prefer to take my toddler here than TO mall. Not crowded and she can around more freely. Everything I need is here… Toys R Us, Kids Salon, playground and rides. Discount shopping and good places to eat.

Janss Marketplace is the definition of 3 star mediocrity, though trending upwards as of late. This marketplace is highlighted by: Carwash, Bandits, King Kong Sushi $ 1 beer happy hours, Hooters, Greccos Pizza, and a movie theatre.
Tip: Stay away from sunset terrace. The owners are mean and rude people. The service is awful, and the vibes are terrible. The people that come here at night are very sketchy and not a fun party crowd. The food? Average at best, but quite overpriced.
All in all, this place is something to check out if bored in TO. If not, don’t feel like you’re missing out on too much.

I visit this shopping center from time to time. its really outdated but there are a lot of current businesses in here. I dont mind it though, if they updated it would attract more people and get too crowded. If it aint broke, dont fix it!

What happened to the movie theater? Regency is closed? Any new theater moving in? We go there every other weekend. What’s up?

Decent family mall that always appears to be struggling to get by. Lots of empty stores and seasonal (Halloween, etc) things being used to fill them.
Clean location with decent supply of parking. ToysRUs, movie theater (with weekday specials) and a great fountain for kids to play in.
Overall, not a bad place but not very exciting. Most people go to the Oaks Mall down the street.

What a great place to relax I love going here because it gives of the feel of family unlike the oaks mall where has a stiffer feeling it makes one feel almost nostalgic

I really only come to this mall to have dinner or go to burlington coat factory for some clothes. The mall is quite and the atmosphere is just so serene. Sometimes I’ll take my kids to play on the little playground that they have in the middle of the mall.

We normally go to muvico to watch movies in Thousand Oaks. Since the tickets were sold out there we decided to come here. This place is just terrible, a guy name Joseph was rude, mean, and does not know how to treat his customers right. He was even yelling at his employees in front of us which was just very unprofessional, I assume he had no training how how to provide good service to a customer. So to conclude: never gonna come here again

The Janss never disappoints. If you need reasonably priced clothing, there’s Burlington. If you want to see a movie, there’s the regency 9. If you have a hot date take them to Bucca do Beppo or Sunset Terrace. Everything you need is at the Janss.

theres nice stores and interseting gems if you really look in the center but they need to some do something to make the center more alive. the majority of people are old or very conservative like if your dating a politician or something lol. overall nice center

This theater is dated but the value is unbeatable. Sound and video for the most part are dead on and the $ 5 any movie Tuesdays are fantastic!
Seats could be more comfortable, but in the 90’s they were state of the art.

I’ve been going here for years and this place is always changing. It has one theater a couple places to eat and a few good stores.
My favorite reason to go here is for the gym, they have Golds.
There is plenty of parking here as well and it can get pretty busy.
Their newest addition is Hooters, going on a few months now.
I like to go here also for Old Navy, Burlington, and Marshalls.

Great hang out place. Used to be a more popular hangout place for teens but has definitely gone down in business the last 3 – 4 years you can tell. Still nice and quite places though.

When I heard the word «Janss Marketplace» I immediately have a hot flash or that same feeling you get when you’re driving down the road and you get started by the glare of a police siren… Yeah, that tingly feeling all down your body is exactly what I feel when I think about this little novelty of TO (The Locals call it TO for short cause it stands for Time out. Uhh. I mean Thousand Oaks) This takes me back to a time when SImple Plan was in, Paris Hilton Was Relevant and Facebook didn’t exist.
This piece of work lies on «Moorpark road». This road is like the main artery of Thousand Oaks. I swear to you I have never seen so many fuckin’ Chain restaurants in my life than I have here on Moorpark road. Mimi’s, CPK, Olive Garden. Pat and Oscars. A bunch of other places I can’t really think of cause I just farted. But you name they have it.
*Janass marketplace in itself isn’t bad. I dated a girl who went to Cal Lutheran University at the time and we would often find ourselves in this area… A Gym, restaurants, Old Navy, movie theather, Marshalls, and you have your quintessential little shoppin’ plaza for underage high schoolers, families, and CLU students.

I discovered this place by accident and I love it. I enjoy spending time here with my daughter. My experience with similar outdoor malls includes the Block at Orange near where we used to live in Anaheim and the San Tan Mall in Gilbert, Arizona. Both are similar and on a larger scale than Janss — but same idea — mix of stores, eateries, fountains, outdoor seating, and walking outside to get around.
We love the fountains, flowers and Chumash sculptures. I love having Panera right by the main fountain. My daughter likes Lucky’s Dog House. We both eat Subway and Grecco’s New York Pizzaria (it’s worth going to see those giant slices of pizza — quite spectacular — and tasty).
There is a movie theater and enough stores to do a fair amount of shopping — Sears, Toys R Us, some clothing stores, etc. Really wish it had a book store — a nice Barnes & Noble.
The Burger King between the Subway and the Hawaiian BBQ place is gone and the space is available. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for an Arby’s — probably my most favorite fast food restaurant of all time.
All in all, I always feel very safe. It is family friendly. During cooler evenings in the winter the outdoor spaces have heaters and there is an outdoor fireplace near the movie theater/Gold’s Gym.

Mann’s theatre at Janss Marketplace stinks of piss, dirt and air conditioner filters that are never changed. The smell is so strong in the screening room; it is difficult to concentrate on a movie. The chairs in this place have been broken for at least 7 years.
It is difficult to find a public bathroom that smells as bad as this theatre, so if you are there for the smell, $ 11 tickets are well worth the price

Its a very friendly store and there are always people to help you. Only drawbacks are that there is usually only 2 check out lanes open even when it is super busy. I find that they run out of the formula I need alot and dont get it in for sometimes a week or more forcing me to buy at the grocery store.
They always have great deals on electronics which is a plus with a husband and an 8 year old.
All in all if you are looking for actual baby food/​formula this isnt always the store their the R Zone as it is called is sparsely stocked.

Blech. Those murals and sculptures are herrendous to start. Did they think this would be a respectful homage to the Chumash peoples who once lived in this valley? Damn. What are those gecko things anyhow? There’s no geckos around.
The Conejo Twin, Rex’s Toy Town, Brown Bag Deli, Oaks Wigs, Frank’s Charbroiler, badass barber shop who’s name I’ve forgotten with an autographed picture of Ernest Borgnine inside (yep, muhfuggin Airwolf), Sam’s Ice Cream, BEST, watching fireworks on the roof of Sears, Mandarin Wok, etc. The Janss Mall, not «Marketplace» thanks.

Anchored by Sears, Toys-​R-​Us, the Mann movie theater and Mervyn’s, the Janss Marketplace is an evolving outdoor mall that has endured many redesigns and store/​restaurant changes. Currently, as I write my review, it is still a pleasant place to stroll through, with two extraordinary fountains both paying tribute to native americans and plenty of outdoor seating. Parking is hardly a problem except around the holidays. There is a nice mix of restaurants and eateries with shopping diversity for the whole family. Every hour there’s a light and water show at the main fountain between Buca’s and Mervyn’s and I just found out that every second Thursday of the month is open mic night, where you may catch me crooning if I ever get the cahonies to get up there. On the other end of the mall is an outdoor food court with an impressive fireplace and a new restaurant called Sunset Terrace that I need to try. The movie theater needs to be updated and Sears seems so old-​school, but within Thousand Oaks there has always been a conflict of old and new. It’s a sleepy affluent area that values slow growth and suburbanitism. Janss Marketplace is doing it’s best to stay up with the Joneses while keeping the old folks happy.
