For Pet’s Sake

Big fan of Unilocal,have came close to leaving a review, but never felt to bother, one way or the other, until now. Recently I become interested in reptiles. Looking to purchase on a budget, bought 2 Bearded Dragons from CL, with very limited budget I arrived at Pet’s Sake, for essentials (lighting, food) and general care advise /​guidence. From the time I walked in, Rock was extremely helpful, and demonstrated a genuine interest in ensuring my reptiles had everything they needed and I had the knowledge to ensure both (Dragons /​Myself) were off to a good start. That to me, is priceless. I could have not asked for better customer experience. Rock, both I and my Dragons, thank you.

We had decided to get a guinea pig, but could not pick up for 5 days. The owner indicated he could not hold the guinea pig with out payment-​in-​full. Thus, we paid. In the end, I apologized we were unable to take the guinea pig and asked for a store credit (not a refund, but store credit). His response was «Sorry, we don’t do that and I had 6 people who wanted the guinea pig this weekend». My response was, «Then you should have no trouble selling the guinea pig and I guess you will get double payment, since you wont give me a store credit». His response was «We will just consider it (your payment) a charge for room and board for the guinea pig». What??? Seriously. I find this to be a bad business practice. He indicated he told me there would be no refunds, but there was nothing ever said about a store credit. And come on, if you had 6 people who wanted it you should be able to sell it quickly. I find not issuing a store credit as a short-​sighted way to do business. OK, so you got double payment, but you’ve lost all future business and someone willing to let others know to stay away based on your business practices.

My guinea pig had super long nails and I took him in to get clipped. The young man was clearly trained and totally comfortable taking Bob and clipping his gnarly long curved nails. He’s like a new pig, and looks so good and happy. They did such a quick and great job. And it was free, just with a small purchase! !! You really cant beat that deal.

So today I bought meal worms, super worms, and pinkies today for my bearded dragon from this place. Not only was the guy working there an utter jerk but one of the 3 pinkies were dead, but all but 5 of the 25 super worms were dead– the whole container smelled horrible once opened, and now I am dreading even finding out the condition of the meal worms. My dragon only eats live things, hence why we buy them alive. Such a bummer that such a cute mom and pop shop is treating it’s customers so horribly.

I’ve been going to For Pet’s Sake for many
years. Mike and the guys are knowledgeable and friendly. I get all my birds there along with all my pet food and supplies. I would never go anywhere else!

I went back in Saturday because the owner at another shop I’ve been going to wasn’t there and his staff ignored me and my husband the entire time we were in the shop! So we left. I went back to For Pets Sake and Roc was super helpful with my now 13.5 month old Rottweiler. He started us on a new food for her sensitive stomach. And gave us better longer lasting chewing items that we are very pleased with. He also let us know he could order some of the things I wanted that they didn’t have in the store.

Asked to purchase one large rat and they boxed me up one and when I got home it was tiny, and they. Charges 12 bucks for this thing, what a rip. Don’t they think people know the difference. Employee not very personable or costumer friendly either

I like this pet store. They do sell live animals, but at least when I asked about the guinea pigs they said they all come from local breeders/​accidental pet pregnancies and that they don’t buy from big chains or brokers. For the most part the pets are kept in spacious enclosures and are clean. I think the cages they use to house their birds are far too small, but they are standard size for pet stores…
It’s a small shop, but they carry a good variety of stuff including pet food, toys, habitats, bedding, other accessories, feeder bugs and frozen feeder rodents. The staff are friendly and will order stuff for you if you need something they don’t have in stock. I’ve dealt with them on several occasions and they call back when they say they will and are honest business people to work with.

We are very pleased with this store. In our case, we keep for a pet a leopard gecko. After our original, much-​loved gecko passed on, we acquired his successor («Eddie Lizzard») from For Pet’s Sake. The animal was well cared for, alert, and happy and has thrived. I can tell you that other stores vending reptiles within a radius of a few miles had not cared for their sale animals NEAR as well. Moreover, we buy all our supplies from them. We find the store convenient, well stocked, and the folks who work there are pleasant and helpful. We like patronizing a local business, and they make it easy to continue coming back. I recommend them to you.

I have been going to this pet food store for over 15 yrs. and have nothing but good things to say. Mike the owner is helpful and informative as are his other employees. He is VERY reasonably priced. I love supporting a local business and it’s easy to do with them.

I love this store. Mikes willing to order what you need, the store is clean and he is really informative about the animals.

Love this pet store. I have gotten numerous healthy pets here. Great management, who are always ready to help. Better than Petco or petsmart. I’m going to get a puppy tomorrow and am going there for supplies I will need. They have a great selection and great prices. This is where I get my dog food and everything else. I don’t go to big name stores as much. My favorite pet store.

Awesome Pet store with intelligent owner Mike who is educating me on raising my new baby box turtles that I wasn’t expecting. I have rescued two box turtles and with Mike’s help they are thriving in my back yard environment and now we have babies that we are going to raise. Thank you for the excellent advice and wide variety of products to make this a one stop shopping experience.

I got my tuxedo cat there a couple years ago and they have been great ever since. I go here over the big name stores each time. They always give me tips on what food and toys to get. It is easy to pop in and out to grab what I need. The owner is there often and he is very helpful! Thanks!

Great pet store… great service. Here’s my story… I went in to change my two 10 year old cat’s diets because they were vomiting a lot at home. The store owner suggested I try feeding them less of the food I was already using (purchased elsewhere) and it successfully got rid of the problem. So instead of selling me an entirely new diet of food from his store, he solved the issue and made me so happy. And my cats too. I will aways shop here and I recommend it strongly.

I have two dogs, two parrots, a rabbit and fish. This is by far my favorite pet store. The food is always fresh, they have a good selection of toys for all my animals and the customer service can’t be beat. The staff always knows the answer to whatever question I have regarding any of my pets. I recommend them to people on a regular basis. I love this shop!

All of the «mom & pop» businesses seem to be disappearing! I love the feel of supporting your locally-​owned pet store.
Went into For Pet’s Sake to check out the selection of collars and leashes for dogs and spent about an hour looking around and talking with the staff. Even ran into an old friend there, who was shopping for reptiles.
This store has a good selection of pets (birds, rabbits, rodents, reptiles, even a tarantula!), but not over-​stocked to where you feel they’re not being properly taken care of. They carry dog treats of all kinds; we bought two cow tracheas for our dogs… something new? I had never heard of them, but our dogs loved them… eeew!
Because of their smaller size, For Pet’s Sake carries a little bit of everything, so the selection of dog collars and leashes was limited. We didn’t find any we liked, but enjoyed the visit and will certainly visit again!

I have lived all over the United States and had a pet for many years. I have never been as impressed with a pet store (and its management) as I am with this one. When my crazy dog needed a prong collar, the owner (Michael) helped explain it to me, how to use it, plusses and minuses. When I took it home and couldn’t get it to work, he suggested I bring it back WITH the dog. I did and he took the time to show me how to use it.
They carry HEALTHY (not the junk from the grocer store) and REASONABLY priced (better prices that Petco!) dog food. They have a great selection of toys and can special order something for you.
They really care about pets and about helping.

I have driven by this store more times than I can count and always thought that it was cleverly named. So when I got a puppy, I went by to check it out.
Parking is limited, but I had no problem on a weekday afternoon. The prices seem reasonable. The selection is fantastic. As was the gentleman who helped me. He was knowledgable and helpful. :)
