Flooring 101 – Thousand Oaks

Winning… I shopped everywhere in town to redo my rental and they were the most cost effective and had the best selection. Service was great too! Scott is the man. I bought floors from him 2 years ago for my primary home and he looked up what my order was for and gave me the same price I paid a couple years back. Would definitely recommend them!

NIGHTMARE! DO NOT USE! I will return to HRM Flooring in Newbury Park. HRM had no issue when they installed carpeting 7 years ago into same rooms (and laminate wood downstairs). I called US Flooring and they suggested 101 Flooring for the CORETEC flooring I wanted upstairs. I got a good price at 101. yet I wanted a different color of flooring. Ross never got back to me with a sample to take home. I called US Flooring and they sent me samples. I still ordered through 101. I spent a few weeks boxing EVERYTHING, as instructed. I took the whole day off today to sit at home to get my upstairs installed. The guys showed up and REFUSED to move boxes and complained that I had too much furniture. I had to suggest to THEM how to move the stuff and where. They refused and LEFT! Ross from 101 TO called and came over, telling me he pays them to move furniture. NOT BOXES. HE NEVER mentioned this before. There is PLENTY of room to put boxes onto furniture, once they move the furniture, turn it on its side, etc. I asked what IF I was getting downstairs done too? Ross NEVER told me I had to move boxes. Again. HRM never had me move ANYTHING when they did my upstairs and downstairs. I canceled my order. with 101. I booked this day over a month in advance… The house is a MESS… had to remove water bed insides. can’t find anything – it’s all in boxes. Been living like this for a week and more few weeks. SO UPSET! Going back to HRM with 101 pricing and hoping for the best! Hope they can order and install ASAP!

I had a great experience with Flooring 101. Scott was a fantastic sales rep. I needed to replace very old vinyl flooring in my condo and he greatly assisted in choosing replacement material that was of a good quality but didn’t break the bank. He even brought a few extra samples last minute to help me determine the best choice for the space. The material arrived quickly and the installers were fantastic. They arrived on time and even came back the next morning to complete the job when I ran into a slight delay with one of my other trades. The price was fair for the work done/​what I ordered and now my floors look perfect. Definitely recommend!

I was hesitant to shop here because of the reviews, and even told Ross that their Unilocal reviews were pretty discouraging. He assured me that they do good work and follow through on customer satisfaction. He was so genuine in his response and commitment to service, I decided to trust what he was saying and go for it. I had SUCH a positive experience with Flooring 101. Honestly, Ross was top-​notch. From design, to narrowing down choices, to measurements, to installation, to follow-​up. Everything went so smoothly and I couldn’t be happier with the flooring (laminate and carpet), rugs (made from our carpet they ripped up), and overall experience.

Yes, I read the negative reviews of this place, but thought, I’ll just be really clear about my needs and expectations and it won’t happen to me. Well, it did happen to me. I was really clear about the fact that my subfloor was bad. And that the tile needed to be ripped up and the subfloor redone. And I had it all in writing. And I put down a deposit to buy the materials. And when they came to do the job, they said that it would cost an additional $ 1000. A 35% increase for the bid. Since the deposit was already paid and the materials purchased, I had few options. I tried to be nice and offered to buy the materials and find another installer but they refused to sell them to me at cost. They wanted to make a profit off me even though they were the ones that refused to honor their original price.
Long story short, I was able to purchase the materials (unclear what their mark up was as they did not provide an invoice) after a lot of back and forth and hassle. And found another installer that would do the job for the price that was originally quoted. These «hidden costs» are inherent to the way they do business. Their bidder is not their installer. The bidder’s job is to «sell» the job, while the installer’s job is to perform the work. They have different incentives — one is to give you the cheapest price, while the installer must give you a fair price. Based on my experience and many of the reviews, the «hidden costs» are inevitable if the bidder and installer are not the same person.
So why did I choose flooring 101. Because they had a product no one else had, a vinyl long plank with built in subfloor. No other vinyl product has a subfloor included, and we had a bad subfloor but didn’t want the added cost of redoing the subfloor.
My 2 cents, if you find a product that you like elsewhere, go with the other flooring company (as long as they have good Unilocal reviews). If Flooring 101 is the only place that has the product you like, then insist that the installer come bid your job. You will have a better chance of avoiding the «hidden cost».

We used Flooring 101 in Oxnard as Costco’s carpet installer in our bedrooms upstairs. Their service was excellent! Harry was our sales rep in the field, taking measurements and showing us features and options. Very punctual with his appointments and follow-​thru with making up our minds.
On day of installation, our installers were Bruno and Gary. We really admired how fast and precise they were. Minimal chatter & few breaks a plus. Esp. appreciate their being helpful with moving around a couple unrelated items. Another positive: they took extra care not to nick the walls when bringing up & downstairs the large carpet + pad rolls. Only downside was the wait: manufacturer Shaw took more than 5 weeks to make & ship the carpet from their production, but this isn’t fault of Flooring 101.

If it were possible, I’d give 0 stars.

Service stopped after the contract was signed. Multiple delays with little or no notice.

When I asked if they had their own installers, the answer was «yes». However, the installer gave me his personal business card which was not a Flooring 101 card.

Their president was balked at doing the correct work.

Because I refused to pay them until shoddy work was completed, they put a lien on my home and hired some fly-​by-​night process server that swore he delivered summons to my wife, which was a lie. The server must be a friend of the president, as the business is in Oxnard and the process server is located in Long Beach.

I have had several experiences with Flooring 101 now. They put an engineered hardwood floor in my kitchen for me a couple of years ago. The crew did an excellent job and were very neat and careful while working. Recently I had a problem with the floor which was not their fault. I had them come to my home to tear out the floor because a new one had to be put in. The men who did this work were so neat and careful! It was a big and messy job and due to the careful way they put up plastic and did their work, I got only a minimum about of dust. When they were through, they vacuumed up the entire area and left me with a clean kitchen. They will be back to install the new floor as soon as I get it set up. Thank you Flooring 101.

Bought wood laminate for my condo. Sqft price was good and I’m happy with the quality. My problem here lies with the service I received.
It took nearly an hour from the time we arrived until someone would help us, despite our asking twice and only a couple of other people in the store. When we decided on one we liked, we asked for the Contractor’s price because we had a contractor that would buy it. That was no problem but when we tried to use the coupon that was offered on Unilocal,the salesperson, Missy, have me grief because we were «already getting a great deal», but would «let us» use the deal if I agreed to leave a favorable review here in Unilocal.
I agreed to levee a review but I can’t in good conscience make it seem better than it was. We knew we should have some extra flooring left over but Missy convinced us we needed 20% more than the sqft we were planning, and pressured me into buying transition pieces I said I didn’t need.
Now I’m left with 13 extra boxes if wood and a bunch of transition pieces I don’t need, over $ 300 of materials extra that I can’t return because they had to order out.
If you’re experienced, you shouldn’t have a problem getting what you need for a good price, but if you’re not too sure what you need, be very careful. Bring an expert with you to make sure you aren’t getting screwed.

I came here to look at laminate flooring options for my house, but ended up getting tile because they were able to give me a really good deal that worked with my budget. The product they sold me is great, so no complaints there. I wasn’t at the house when they did the installation, but it looks great, just as I would expect. Big thanks to Flooring 101 for making that part of my home renovation very simple and easy. I’m also really I went with the tile. I didn’t think we were going to be able to afford it, but they helped us make it happen!

I’ve know this store since it opened. The sales team is very professional and knowledgeable. You would be hard pressed to get better value for your home decorating dollars. Huge selection, great pricing, and local inventory.

I vote to cut these people a little slack from their low marks. I Unilocal more for restaurants and realize the game is rigged here. But I’ve been a repeat customer and always got what I wanted. Sometimes loudly because they’re not perfect. I’d go back.

We did not have our floors installed by Flooring 101, so this review is based on their inventory, pricing and customer service. If you want an enjoyable, hassle-​free customer experience I highly recommend you work with Ross. At the time I came in, I had been looking for a very specific type of wood– wide planked, dark espresso, lightly distressed engineered hardwood flooring– and Ross managed to find the exact piece at a price lower than what competitors were charging. Throughout the entire sales process, Ross was very low-​key and did not pressure us to buy. He was very knowledgeable about the wood, how to care for it, the best method for installing it, etc. He was also extremely patient and made sure we had every single question answered before (and after) we made our purchase. He is a genuine guy who does not ooze «salesman» like some others we met at competitor stores. He also returns calls promptly and follows up on any additional requests in a timely manner. Ask for him directly when you call in and you won’t be disappointed.

We spent 18,000 dollars at this store and when we had a problem with our warranty. When we went to the store to find a solution, we were told to contact the manager, whose name is Ian. After numerous voice mails, and actually stopping in the business, Ian went A-​Wall and never helped us one bit.
I would never recommend this place or any other Flooring 101.
When we were finally able to reach the owner who works out of the Oxnard location, he yelled the entire time on the phone. He did not allow me to speak and kept saying, «I DON’T DEAL WITH THESE SMALL PROBLEMS» «IT’S NOT MY PROBLEM» «I NO FIX PROBLEMS LIKE THIS»
Wow… and this is how he runs a business.
Leadership trickles down and every person that we came in contact with, AFTER we gave them our money, was horrible at customer service.
DON“T GO THERE! Stay away and spend your money some other place.

THE WORST. EVER. RUN. Those hundreds of dollars you think you’ll save over Home Depot carpet installation? YOU WONT. Guess why? The FLOORING 101 installation department is THE WORST. They absolutely DO NOT CARE how they install your carpet, where the carpet seams are, whether your moulding goes back properly, how crappy the job looks, where they place your furniture when they’re done (like in the wrong room!), or whether they rip your cable TV cords out of your wall. I was in SHOCK when I saw the finished job and complete lack of workmanship. We’ve called the T.O. Store more than a dozen times, as well as the OWNER in Simi. And guess what? NO ONE HAS EVER RETURNED ONE PHONE CALL. EVER. Hector, Missy, & crew — your customer service skills SUCK. Thanks for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Look forward to the lawsuit Losers.

I have used the Flooring 101 Thousand Oaks location twice to purchase and install whole house wood flooring. The selection and prices cannot be beat! Scott was great to deal with and the installers did an amazing job. My floors are flawless and I could not be happier with my two experiences with Flooring 101. Highly recommended.

We had our entire downstairs flooring replaced with hardwood in October 2012. Flooring 101 has a great selection of wood choices, including several «certified green» choices and US-​made brands.
Our entire experience with them was excellent. Great sales people, great installation. During the installation they took extra steps such as making sure our wiring for our home audio system was not affected (the wiring ran under the baseboards) and notching out the concrete at the bottom of our fireplace bricks so that the wood butted right up against the bricks instead of using corner-​rounder at the fireplace (which is what our previous floor material had — this looks MUCH better). Our home looks wonderful — we have not found one tiny thing done incorrectly. I recommend them without any hesitations.
When we’re ready to replace our carpeting upstairs, we know where we’ll go!

Flooring 101 is great. There help is REALLY nice, i dealt with Ross and he really took care of us and gave us better installed pricing then i could find anywhere and i shopped a lot!
The installers did a great job and were very nice and clean and left the place looking perfect!
Ross did all of the tile in our house, the whole downstairs and our entire master bath suite. He also carpeted the whole house and added tread and risers to our stairs, what a difference! I’m so happy with everything and loving having a new house!
I’d recommend them to anyone!

I had written a review previously, but somehow it has disappeared… hmmm.
Anyway, I would have recommended Flooring 101 to others, as we initially liked their work on both our laminate flooring in our general living space and tile flooring in our bathrooms. However, they did not do the necessary tests prior to installation– which we were unaware of being it was the first time we ever dealt w/​a home improvement project– so therefore we had problems w/​our laminate flooring w/​in 1 month of installation. They never followed their warranties for installation or manufacturer guidelines/​warranties.
End result– a crudload of run around by people who had no idea what they were talking about and didnt care about the satisfaction of their customers!
Will end up replacing floors by people who know what they are doing.

Avoid at all hazards.
Scary bunch of hustlers.
We experienced bait & switch, hidden costs, high prices, salespeople that can’t be trusted, high drama with the installation, everything is extra cost that’s incidental and inclusive with other carpet dealers.
You’ve been warned.
Creepy slime balls and they know it.
Not a reason in the world to do business here.
