Jim Stime’s Aquarium Design was officially recognized by the State of California in 1995 but its birth actually began back in 1982. «While I was working for a company (Presto-Tek Corp.) who manufactured water quality test and dispensing equipment I could lean my chair back in my cubicle and peer into my bosses office which contained a 26 gallon freshwater aquarium. Jim Stime S.

Business Owner

Jim Stime’s interest in the marine aquarium began back in 1983 which lead to working part-time in tropical fish shops and eventually full-time for Marineland Aquarium Products. The George Schmit articles on the original Mini Reef system and Bob Goemans articles on water chemistry and testing were significant inspirations into the mechanics of aquatic systems and the understanding of aquatic filtration. In 1993 Jim became aquarium service manager for Tidal Wave Tropical Fish in Thousand Oaks California. It was during this time that Jim became the president of the Marine Aquarium Society of Los Angeles. This lead to hosting and producing the tenth annual Marine Aquarium Conference of North America in 1998 in Los Angeles. In 1995 Jim became the owner of Aquarium Design, an aquarium maintenance and installation business which he today still juggles over 30 accounts, many are celebrities.
