History

Established in 1987.

Over 25 years of honest reliable automotive repair. H&S began on the corner of State St & Rt 6 in South Holland in 1987 as a service station/​repair shop, South Holland Mobil. It was a huge pumper station with big diesel pumps and semi truck parking in the rear. In 1992 Hunter purchased the hometown gas station service station on South Park Ave in the historic downtown area. The business was run by family members including his wife and young daughter. Eventually, South Holland had plans to redesign the area and Hunter relocated to Thornton, IL. Hunter and his daughter Michelle decided to downsize the business and focus solely on automotive repair. H&S is located at 593 N. Williams in Thornton, IL. You will find the same family employees, only there’s been a few more additions. You can find Hunter’s grandsons and granddaughters helping out on a daily basis!

H&S Auto Repair (Previously South Holland Mobil) is owned & operated by Hunter & Sue Fisher. Hunter began his hobby of working on cars as soon as he was old enough to walk! As a teen, he worked for a local auto repair shop in Crete. In 1981, during his lunch break, Hunter & fellow workers went to eat at a local diner where a young waitress named Sue waited on them. Day after day, Hunter stopped by to ask Sue out. Finally, Sue caved & said yes. Soon after, Hunter & Sue were married. They had two daughters. After a job as a mechanic with Kickert Bus and Interstate Shell in Lansing, Hunter went to work as a lead mechanic for the Mobil station located at 162^nd & State Street (across from Walts) in South Holland, IL. After a few years, Hunter was asked to buy out the business and the WHOLE family went to work at the gas station/​repair shop. Eventually, they relocated to the «old-​fashioned» station on South Park. In 2005, they sold the business and opened H&S Auto Repair in Thornton, IL
