Crest Hill Antiques & Tea Room

I am a big fan of afternoon tea and whenever I venture to a new city, having tea is «must-​do» on the itinerary. Unfortunately in the DC area, most of the hotels only offer afternoon tea on the weekends (when I work) and I have already experienced tea at my usual haunts (Teaism, Ching Ching Cha, Lady Camellia, House of Steep) quite a few times. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday. He wanted to take me to a new tea house and they happen to be open on Thursdays! We have been to Middleburg for wine tastings but this was our first time to The Plains. Street parking was limited but not too difficult to find a spot in the middle of the weekday.
Crest Hill Antiques is a house that divided into two rooms: the «living room» is where they house furniture, trinkets, and tea ware for sale. The «dining room» is the tea room. There are only a few tables, so I would recommend making a reservation. This tea room is more of a casual rather than a formal tea. The menu consists of soups, sandwiches, and tea sets – you can order afternoon tea or a pot of tea (small individual pots or a large pot to share) and scones. The staff, to some extent, can make a customized sandwich, as we witnessed with the guests sitting near us. We decided to order «Nibbles for Everyone», which is a 3-​tiered tray that had sliced cheese and crackers, sliced veggies, sliced fruits, and a small selection of tea sandwiches and pastries. The sandwiches were ham, cucumber dill, and pimento cheese. The miniature desserts included lemon curd cupcake, cheesecake, éclair, what looks like a cream puff that had blueberry jam in the middle, a brownie, and a molten chocolate cake. My favorite desserts were the delicious puffy thing and the chocolate items.
As mentioned, this is not a gourmet tea menu but it was wonderful experience due to the cozy ambiance. You can chit chat and linger over a cuppa for as long as you want and the staff does not rush you. When you are given a preview of your bill, you need to write down the gratuity on the bill, as they unable to process separate charges for credit card gratuities. They have some of the teas available for purchase, as well. If you are a large party (say 5 or more), I would advise making reservations, as they only have four tables in the tea room. However, I think this tea room is a better place to catch up with a girlfriend or have a one-​on-​one conversation. For tea enthusiasts, their tea menu primarily consists of tea blends, and they have current and back issues of Victoria and Tea Time magazine you can pore over while you are pouring your tea.

First of all, whenever I plan to go to a tearoom on a Sunday, no matter where it is, I always make a reservation. That being said, my BFF and I had a reservation for Sunday at Crest Hill Antiques and Tea Room. Having been there several times in the past, we knew what to expect. A wonderful experience. Sally greeted us warmly, and remembered us from past visits. We were early, so we looked around, and of course found lovely things to buy.
When we sat down at our table, we were greeted by our server. Tea samples were set before us and we were able to choose our own tea. We decided on our tea and also on the Full Monty, which included a freshly baked and warm scone, tea sandwiches, fresh fruit, lovely pastries and a full pot of tea each.
If you go, you must try Sally’s Blend which is delicious. I even was able to buy a small bag to take home.
We plan to go back in the fall and also in January when Sally puts on her Downton Abbey tea. Give Crest Hill Antiques and Tea Room a visit, you won’t be disappointed.

Loved this tea room! It was cute, clean, and the food and tea were awesome!
I stumbled upon it by accident! We did not have reservations and were greeted and invited into a table immediately. I took my infant daughter and our Au Pair. They didn’t have any high chairs, so she stayed in her stroller. The lady that served us had her hands full with making tea and food for 4 or 5 tables, but did a great job!
It was peaceful and quite lovely.
The antiques were neat to look at and the little town was very cute.

The website recommends «reservations are requested only for groups of 6 or more» for the tea room– My party of three went to Crest Hill Antiques on a Sunday, around 1:00. We were stopped abruptly immediately upon entry and asked if we’d come for tea – when we replied that we indeed had, we were immediately told that there was no room for us. The tea room was visible from the entry, and was empty. The assistant stated that they were waiting for a 1:00 reservation, who was «apparently late». We were not asked if we’d like to peruse the antiques, or asked to wait for a few minutes to see if the alleged reservation was a no-​show. No one in my party will EVER return to Crest Hill Antiques — an utter waste of time.

Went shopping for some corner tables and other home décor items here this morning — while I did not find what I was looking for — I did enjoy my visit here.
This store has a lot of nice furniture pieces, home décor items, and more. In addition to these offerings, in the back is a Tea Room. The Tea Room consists of 3 – 4 tables quaintly, yet elegantly appointed. They offer tea, coffee, sandwiches, desserts, cookies, fresh fruit, and more. You can try walking in, or you can get reservations.
I spent a few minutes chatting with the lady who is the baker for the goods served in the Tea Room — I can’t remember her name but she was a joy to chat with!
The woman who owns the Antique shop is Sally. I told her what I was looking for table-​wise — and bless her — she knew where I should look next — she gave me a business card for a business located in Marshall, VA — she was sure I would find what I was looking for there.
