Milgard Windows and Doors

My nearly 10 year old window suddenly burst. Milgard asked a few questions and arranged to have their repair man Rudy come to our house. In less than 30 minutes he replaced the broken window. I couldn’t be happier.

I initially had a problem with the door and window. I was contacted by Bridget Horan at Milgard, she was polite and receptive to my problem, I am changing this from a 1 Star to a 5 star review. She is going to replace a window and shipping a new sliding door system to me at their expense. I am very happy with the way they have responded, and would not hesitate to recommend Milgard. I am so happy the problem is resolved. Their Lifetime warranty means just that, lifetime. I appreciate everything. Just had a follow up with Rey who came out and replaced my bedroom windows because of some air leakage, I was super impressed with him, he was professional, helped me move my super heavy bed, put on booties when entering my home which my white carpet sincerely appreciates. I can’t be happier, Milgard will always be my choice for windows. Thanks Again.

We are so happy we did not experience what many of the reviewers did. Milgard honored their warranty and was very professional.
Milgard windows aren’t cheap. When we purchased and had them installed slightly under two years ago, we knew we were paying heaps more for them. We could of went with many of the competing brands, but we were sold on the quality and lifetime warranty.
Our windows were developing gaps and letting outside air in. So we call Milgard and they scheduled an appointment for a rep to come out.
On the day of, Ruby Orozco came as scheduled, was professional, put on booties upon entering the property and corrected the problem. Thank you Milgard Windows.

Warrantee Repair… Milgard replaced 2 windows 1 sliding door that had fogged up, repaired a track on another sliding door and repaired a couple of window cranks. We had to schedule a visit from their consultant to survey the warrantee repairs, which took a couple of weeks to get him on site, and another 2 months to schedule the repairs. This was timely but they were on time for our scheduled appointment, and did a very good job in making all of the necessary repairs in a timely manor.
It is good to see company’s that stand behind their product. Thumbs up to Milgard.

The seal on my windows failed and had to be replaced. Great customer service. They came out with a new window and had it installed quickly. Bummer that the windows fogged up but Milgard stood behind the product Thanks Edgar

Mass failing in the Milgard windows throughout my home (11 years old), as well as homes throughout my neighborhood. Last summer I paid to replace 4 windows in my home due to a technicality in their warranty — Milgard did not honor the new 10 year transferrable warranty at the time since it was not in effect when the windows were installed in the new home (I am the 2^nd owner). Fast forward 12 months, and windows are failing throughout my home (purple/​brown hazing and streaking) due to defects.
I sent an e-​mail 11 days ago, which has yet to be answered. There was clearly a quality issue with the products Milgard installed on my street (their trucks are here frequently). Milgard has proven to be arbitrary in the honoring of their warranties, and they will NOT stand behind their product. The refusal to admit they installed an inferior, defective product, and refusal to extend the warranty to me to remedy the situation is unconscionable.
Milgard, and their windows, have FAILED me.

Had 3 Quietline series windows and a slider installed back in May. The windows themselves are wonderful, Quietlines were super expensive and very hard to pin down and order through dealers, as they don’t seem to be very knowledgeable on that particular product or seem to steer you away. So I recommend going through Ganahl Lumber (they have locations throughout So Cal), they made it painless. Plus for an expense like this one, you get to inspect the windows and see that you are actually getting the product glass, etc prior to it being installed. You choose your own installer or you can go with their recommended, which I did and it worked out great. Love the Quietlines, no more helicopter noises, sirens, big truck mufflers, etc., which unfortunately seems to be a fact of life here in So Cal just about no matter where you live these days. I cant hear a thing and that’s a good thing, worth the extra 3 hundred bucks a window all the way totally.
Where my issue with them lies, seems petty but would question my doing business with them in the future. When that pallet came from Temecula and the lumber yard called me to inspect, there were problems. They zip tied and leaned the slider up against the screens and also windows were zip tied tightly to screens and leaning as well.
This caused all my screen frames to be bent and nearly all of them had bends and or holes in the screens as well. Also got bags of broken clips which go into the center of window channels to keep water out.
So I complained, Ganahl was able to get a replacement for one of the windows as a favor, but told me I must contact Milgard regarding the screens as it really was their responsibility. I did right away, but of course had an install date 2 days away. Milgard told me they do not warranty the screens as anything could happen, I explained to them that it was their fault due to packing the product on the pallet, I was told to take photos, in which I did, but of course at this point they were now installed.
Never heard from anyone again, no reply email, nothing. And of course they are installed, how convenient.
I feel that the window quality is superb, but at nearly 600 $ a window (Quietlines), I shouldn’t have to feel that getting replacement screens and clips is a big deal, but I guess it is.
Now I have $ 4500 worth of windows, but screens with a few holes and bends that allow gaps, nice.
Beware. Check those screens, or better yet, see if you can get them separate from the windows since quality control going out doesn’t seems to care about the small stuff no matter how much you paid for the windows.

Bad products. Lifetime warranty means nothing and only applies to the person who purchased the windows. I moved into a new house and half of the windows do not go up and down smoothly, I can barely get several open and one won’t close since I finally got it open. My neighbor told me we had a lifetime warranty and when I called they said I didn’t qualify since I am not the original owner. Who’s lifetime? The previous owners aren’t dead but the windows are! Milgard emailed me asking me to Unilocal them. Be careful what you ask for.

My windows had fogged up a bit and they replaced them. Milgard was responsive, and didn’t try to shimmy out of the warranty through a fine print loophole, which unfortunately seems to be par for the course these days. It look a little time to get it scheduled but the installer was on time and very courteous.
I looked at a lot of other windows when rebuilding my house, but my contractor kept insisting I should buy Milgard because that they stand behind their products. He was right.

We have Milgard windows on every property we own. The lifetime guarantee is amazing. The smallest of thing goes wrong and they will fix it. We’d probably never get another window company. You won’t regret using them. They keep track of every window for your house. Great system.

I had excellent after sales service from this manufacturer. Highly recommend them they stand by their product ! Not many companies you can say that about.

I bought a older house about 9 years ago that had Milgard windows. Unfortunately the gas sealed double pains in 2 of them failed. I had quotes at about $ 500-​$ 800 a window to repair or replace. On closer inspection (and a lot of googling and youtubing with no success. unusual)… I realized that the entire window was a sealed cell that could be removed simply by popping off a retainer piece of plastic on the front and back of the window and then using a putty knife to dislodge the entire frame from the window casing. Came out in under 10 minutes. I took it to Home Depot, they called Milgaurd on the spot. Based on a serial number on the actual window Milguard actually had my address, and the size of each individual window in my home. That is to say each window was serialized! They knew the EXACT window and size for each of the bad ones. The replacements were on the order of $ 65/​ea. or so. I had them reinstalled 15 minutes after receiving them. FYI I measured the new ones and they were exactly the same size as the old ones. Its great to see actual engineering in home building. I have the highest respect for Milguard and will be using their windows in a rental I have. I gave them a 4 because the gas sealed ones failed in the first place and since I was not the original homeowner they would not honor the warranty. Still damn good well engineered windows for sure. Their dealer network is pricey. If you can buy them at HD and do your own work you are better of IMHO.

Ordered a moving glass wall a little over a month ago and was called last week to schedule delivery date.
Crew sat at the house for the 9 am delivery and when no one showed by noon they called. No one knew where the door was.
3 days later I called direct and still no one knows where my door is.
I bet they know where they spent my $ 5000.

I ordered sliding glass doors, french doors and new windows for my home under construction. I’ve been in the house for almost a year, and one of the fixed windows had a leak. We scheduled a day to replace it and they showed up exactly when they said they would. They were fast and friendly, and I love the fact that the windows and doors all have a lifetime guarantee.

Bought 32 top quality fiberglass awning windows in 2009. Four years later 5 of the mechanisms started rusting, clearly a failure of a batch otherwise all 32 would have rusted. Milgard was as bad as you can imagine. First no warranty for corrosion — even though 27 had no corrosion. then no way to identify the parts, then no technician available until 2−½ months just to identify the parts required. Meanwhile water coming into my house. Disgusted with Milgard.

I have NEVER seen a company that makes more excuses than this company! They just cannot complete a job! I will NEVER buy Millguard Window again! Save yourself from the misery! Even their link on their email to send a company review is broken. Just like all the windows in my house!

STAY AWAY FROM MILGARD WINDOWS. They claim to have a «Lifetime Warranty» however, nine of our windows failed after ten years. They refuse to honor their warranty or even assist with the cost of repairs. I was even told by the service representative that it was not uncommon for their windows to fail in our «harsh» climate. (We live in Denver, not Antartica.)

After purchasing 20 something Ultra line fiberglas frame windows and installing them in our new addition as well as replacing the rest of the windows in the structure, a four-​unit apartment building, our local design and review board insisted some of the street facing windows be gridded in order to look period.
Our window contractor ordered the retro-​fit gridded panes (grids sandwiched between the glass) and installed them promptly. Milgard informed my contractor that only Milgard personnel can install the external faux-​grids because of some special tool or procedure or I-don’t-know-what.
The addition was 100% complete and ready for sign-​off save for these grids. It took Milgard eight weeks to get that done. Let me repeat; EIGHT WEEKS!
I must have called their service dept. 10 times and was promised over and over they would be done in a day or two. They lied to me, avoided taking my calls, came out once and installed two out of three of the grid kits but ran out of material. Passed me on to low-​level flak-​catchers to pacify me and make more false promises.…
We are talking about two man hours of work to complete this and they held up our entire job for TWO MONTHS. We couldn’t get our permits signed off or get our certificate of occupancy, the contractor couldn’t get paid, all for a lousy few sticks of plastic and a couple hours work. They are idiots.
I purchased Milgard windows for my home about 12 years ago. Very expensive anodized aluminum exteriors with hardwood interiors. Beautiful product. They all leaked after a few years and when I exercised the lifetime warranty my experience with their service department was similar. Put it off, blame the contractor (Bought another famous brand of sliders at the same time, installed by the same contractor, and they function perfectly), was told, (no, really) that ALL windows leak, (implication) didn’t you know that you fool?! That time it took six months to get people out here and fix the problem.
The problems with Milgard service are obviously endemic. I will never buy a Milgard product again. Too bad. They used to be a good company.
Update 9÷10÷2014: So check out the nice little reach-​out from Milgard to contact them so the service manager can contact me immediately. I wrote back and guess what? No call. Sheesh.

Milgard is a top of the line company when it comes to lifetime warranty for original customer service. I had my windows installed 12 years ago and today Ray & Lyle came & changed out three defective (foggy) ones. They were fast, courteous, and professional.
I also have a Window-​master (Jeld wen) sliding glass door that was installed the same time. The fogging is so bad that one side is totally shot. I contacted Jeld wen and they wanted $ 500 to replace it; so much for them standing behind the product.
As for the negative reviews; you can’t expect a product to be guaranteed indefinitely through multiple generations of people/​occupants. Buy Milgard, don’t move & Get real.
