Meet the Business Owner
Spencer S.
Business Owner
Hailing from Winston-Salem, NC, Captain Slate, in 1978 quit his teaching job and borrowed $ 50, 000 from the SBA and opened established his dive business in the Florida Keys. To this day, unlike most dive operators, Captain Slate still dive and drives the boats. He loves the sea and cannot wait for his next dive! His long term hope is to reach 20 thousand dives before he hangs up his regulator!
In 2004, Captain Slate received the International SCUBA Diving Hall of Fame award at the World Headquarters of the award in Grand Cayman. The award was for his past/constant contribution to diver safety by writing, back in the early 80’s, (83 – 84), dive safety rules for boat operations, store operations and crew responsibilities and requirements when KADO and FADO, Keys Assoc. of Dive Operators and Florida Assoc. of Dive Operators, was founded here in Key Largo.
